00:00There's like these kind of comedic undertones to everything too that are so refreshing
00:05when you're watching a family drama and the way that Kevin kind of crafts this perfect balance.
00:13Netflix's new drama series The Waterfront from creator Kevin Williamson follows the Buckley
00:18family as they struggle to maintain control of their fishing empire in a coastal town in North
00:23Carolina. Who would choose to be a part of this family? We have money and standing.
00:30That sentence should be in the past tense. The stars of the show spoke to The Hollywood
00:33Reporter all about the new series filled with both crime and family drama and shared what drew
00:38them to the script. I just felt like every character was a living, breathing, palpable person and that
00:46really attracted me to it. The writing was so good and Kevin is so sweet and I spoke with him before
00:52signing on to the project and he really kind of hook, line and sinker got me. When I first read
00:59the script I knew I wanted to play Harlan Buckley. The problem was I didn't have the offer and I kept
01:08hearing names like Russell Crowe and Josh Brolin and you know and so finally I called my agent and I
01:14said well where am I on the list and they said you're not in the top 10 and I was like not in the top 10
01:22and I had I had an offer to do another series for Amazon but I didn't like the script. I had to say
01:29to my agents look I know it's a very good deal I'm sure the Amazon show will be very successful
01:36but my heart isn't in it. I really want to play this character in the waterfront and so I'm passing and
01:47and I passed on the Amazon show and a month later I got the offer for the waterfront.
01:53Family dramas like Succession and Yellowstone have seen major success in recent years.
01:58The actors revealed why they think audiences are so drawn to a series like the waterfront.
02:02Every family in America has some level of dysfunction and so people can relate.
02:10What happened on that boat? Where's Curtis and Troy? I don't know. They haven't found them yet.
02:17They maybe they're hiding or something. Where? The bottom of the ocean? No I don't know.
02:22The man behind the show Kevin Williamson also created Dawson's Creek and The Vampire Diaries
02:27as well as wrote the original Scream film Scream 2 and Scream 4. It's also worth noting he's directing
02:33the forthcoming film Scream 7. Which member of the Buckley family do you think would die first
02:38in a Scream movie? I think Kane. You think so? Yeah because I think I think he could be potentially
02:45um you know the one you think maybe is gonna make it and then it's like a surprise kill. Yeah it's like
02:53it's like yeah like hopefully it's in like yeah you're like but there's so much more to offer
02:59and then you know it's done. But I don't know maybe uh but also maybe maybe you Holt.
03:09You know look I think the same could be said for you. You're like maybe you like the killer's you know
03:15ghost face is coming at the whole family and you're like jump in front and it's like
03:19Yeah Arlen like you're probably trying to fight back and be the first to go. Yeah and it's like sad. As long as it's a heroic death
03:25Yeah
03:26I will sacrifice myself to cut you like a fish. I don't want to speak though too boldly but I feel like Brie would be the last one still.
03:33One hundred percent. Would she be the killer? That's also possible. Definitely.
03:38Yeah. That's also highly possible.
03:42That's pretty buckly.
03:48Season one of The Waterfront is now streaming on Netflix.
