00:00Now, it will be Gerard Struber to take the reins at Bristol City,
00:05obviously after Liam Manning departing for Championship team Norwich City
00:09at the end of the season.
00:11Now, obviously, that was a bit of a shock to the system
00:13in terms of Bristol City and where they were.
00:16Obviously, you're achieving the best finish in numerous years
00:20to make it to the playoffs and obviously fall short,
00:22but it seemed like a step in the right direction.
00:25Then Liam Manning leaves, possibly to do with the state of the backing
00:29in terms of the transfer windows and who he might need for next season.
00:35Gerard Struber is the man to take the reins.
00:37What immediately stands out to me is his experience.
00:40Now, he has managed a load of different clubs,
00:43a load of high-quality clubs as well.
00:46He's no ghost to English football as well.
00:50He kept Barnsley up in 2019 to 2020.
00:56It was a fantastic bit of a sensecape.
00:59He's obviously been at New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg.
01:02He's managed quite a lot across the Austrian Bundesliga as well.
01:08So, he has got a wealth of experience and he comes in
01:11and maybe there are a few fans thinking that foreign managers
01:15don't work at Bristol City, which has been a bit of a bad trend.
01:19He hopes to break it though.
01:20Dan, our Bristol correspondent.
01:22Dan, what's your thoughts on Struber, where he can come in?
01:25He's got that experience in the Championship.
01:27Can he bring it forward?
01:28Can he take Bristol City forward after a fantastic season for them?
01:33Lots to build on though.
01:34And is he the right man for the role?
01:37Well, Charles, there certainly seems to be a lot of enthusiasm at Bristol City
01:42following Gerhard Struber's appointment, both from himself
01:45and indeed from the chairman at the club, John Lansdowne.
01:49They both seem to have this vision in mind that Struber is going to not only work
01:53with the current first team really well, but also be able to interlink that
01:56with the academy and develop a lot of players coming through as well
01:59and ultimately just have this progressive, forward-thinking vision as a club
02:03that will develop Bristol City both on and off the field.
02:06It's very good in terms of what you hear, in terms of talking the talk.
02:10Obviously, now it has to be more done on the pitch in terms of walking the walk.
02:14But certainly in terms of his ethos, he's spoken a lot about wanting to be
02:18progressive as a team and play good, attractive football.
02:22That will excite the supporters and also help the club create a bit of a brand
02:28and identity as well, which, of course, is what you want to hear as a supporter.
02:33So it's now just about putting that into practice on the training pitches
02:36and then ultimately at Ashton Gate when the new season starts.
02:39We can actually hear now from Gerhard Struber himself,
02:42who spoke following his arrival at Ashton Gate in terms of what he wants to do
02:46with the current squad and what they achieved last season and building on that
02:49as well as looking at the academy themselves and also in terms of how he will play
02:55or get his players to play as a manager.
02:58Yes, I think this is a very interesting group.
03:01I think they did a great job in the last season, was very successful.
03:06And right now is the time to build and do everything that we can build the next
03:15or go the next step with this young group.
03:18You've got a track record of moulding a successful team of young players.
03:22How important is the development of players from the Bristol City Academy?
03:26I think in more direction, this is super important.
03:29Of course, the big responsibility is in the first team to build and develop and create results.
03:37You've previously spoken about being an advocate for proactive play.
03:41Can you explain more about what that style means?
03:43Yeah, I think I like it to play with a high intensity on the field.
03:48But in all phases, I will have control.
03:52I will dominate the game.
03:53I will be attractive for the fans.
03:56On the same time, always to find in all phases good answers to be successful.
04:09So also to be not too much romantical.
04:13Also, I think it's important to have a pragmatical approach.
04:18And on the same time, a style of play where the fans, the whole community here,
04:25and of course the team has in the end a good feeling.
04:30Well, lots to be encouraged by there from a Bristol City perspective.
04:34Gerhard Struber certainly seems to know exactly what he wants at Bristol City
04:38in terms of creating this identity and brand at the club,
04:41interling everything together, and ultimately playing some good football.
