00:00Larry Bird was a Boston Celtic champion.

00:02Now Larry Bird is one of the greatest players to ever play for the Boston Celtics.

00:06He led them to three NBA championships in the 80s.

00:08But did you know that he almost didn't make it to the NBA?

00:11When Bird was coming out of Indiana State University, he was projected to be a first

00:15round pick.

00:16But after testing positive for marijuana, he was quickly dropped to the second round

00:19where the Celtics selected him with the sixth pick.

00:21Bird would go on to have a legendary career with the Celtics, but he could have easily

00:25gone to the Lakers.

00:26In fact, Magic Johnson was traded to the Lakers by the Celtics just two years before Bird's

00:30arrival.

00:31And if Magic had stayed in Boston, there's a good chance that Bird would have ended up there

00:34as well.

00:35But as we all know, Magic did go to the Lakers and Larry Bird became a Celtic.

00:39And the rest, as they say, is history.
