Derelict building fire in Blackpool on Kent Road.
Transcript
00:00A major fire at derelict building on Kent Road in Blackpool has been brought under control, but emergency services remain on site this Monday.
00:07Crews were called on Saturday afternoon on the 21st of June at around 2.40pm and faced tug conditions, with the building packed with waste and smoke affecting much of the South Shore area.
00:17At the height of the incident, eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform and a water tower were used to tackle the flames.
00:23As of yesterday, there were four engines and today only two, with specialist equipment still working to manage the area.
00:30Lancashire Fire and Rescue say there are concerns about the building's structural safety and a police and fire investigation into the cause is underway.
00:38Residents are being thanked for their patience and urged to continue avoiding the area and keep windows closed while safety measures remain in place.
00:44Well, it was a really tragic event, obviously, they've lost that building that's been there for a very, very long time.
00:49At one time, it was a thriving business, I believe.
00:51In terms of effect on us, there was very little on the day apart from we opened our doors to help some of the local community have somewhere to shelter.
00:59During the worst times, I think it's a concern for some of the team members to start with, because some of them live locally, some of them live really close to where that building is.
01:07So they were a bit concerned about their own houses and if it had any effect on them personally.
01:13But as it turned out, they were all safe and all okay.
01:15The house is not damaged in any way, apart from a bit of smoke.
01:18Club 3000 Bingo, Blackpool Salvation Army and Beacon Church all opened their doors offering hospitality, while council officers arranged overnight accommodation.
