04:26I'm not very little, but I'm very bouncy.
04:30Hi, everybody.
04:31What are you doing?
04:33We're playing family.
04:34Oh, that's good.
04:35It's nice when families play and have fun together.
04:38Oh, BJ, you're so cranky.
04:41Well, Sissy, you're the noisy one.
04:44Am not.
04:45Or too.
04:46Am not.
04:48Or too.
04:49Noisy, noisy, noisy.
04:51Am not.
04:52Cranky, cranky, cranky.
04:54Oh, no way, Sissy.
04:56Oh, way, BJ.
04:59Way, way.
05:02Why?
05:03That doesn't sound like a happy brother and sister.
05:07Big baby.
05:08You're the big baby.
05:10Well, you're a, a, a floopity-boo.
05:14Oh, there's no such thing as a floopity-boo.
05:18Yes, there is.
05:20And here's it!
05:22Oh!
05:24Oh, no!
05:25Oh!
05:27I'm never talking to you ever again!
05:31Oh, good.
05:33Because I'm not talking to you either.
05:35Good!
05:36I'm going downstairs!
05:38Oh!
05:40Oh, dear.
05:41Aw, nuts!
05:43It's no fun when brothers and sisters are mad at each other.
05:46You're so right, Scooter.
05:48Oh, I do hope they'll make up and be friends again.
05:51I do.
05:52I'm not a slowpoke.
05:54And I'm not a whiner either.
05:55I don't care what BJ says.
05:57Bye, baby, bye.
05:59Oh, Barney!
06:01Sometimes my brother makes me so mad!
06:04Well, I can see you're really upset, Baby Bop,
06:07but sometimes everybody gets mad.
06:10It's even true for your mom and dad.
06:13So if that feeling gets a hold of you,
06:16tell me some things that you might do.
06:19Oh, well, there's lots of things I could do.
06:21Like, sometimes I run or jump up and down
06:25or color with black and red, you do?
06:28Or I might hold tight to an old stuffed animal.
06:31Mine's a teddy named Fred.
06:33And then what?
06:35Then I talk about my feelings with a friend
06:37or a teacher or my mom or dad.
06:41And after I do, it seems to be true
06:44that I don't feel so bad.
06:47I talk about my feelings when I'm mad.
06:50That's right.
06:52Sometimes I make a fist or snap my feet
06:58or scream with lots of flowers.
07:00Yeah!
07:01Or I sing a song that's fast and loud
07:03once I sing for half an hour.
07:06Whoa!
07:06Then I talk about my feelings with a friend
07:10or a teacher or my mom or dad.
07:14And after I do, it seems to be true
07:17that I don't feel so bad.
07:20I talk about my feelings when I'm mad.
07:23Good idea!
07:25Then I talk about my feelings with a friend
07:27or a teacher or my mom or dad.
07:30And after I do, it seems to be true
07:34that I don't feel so bad.
07:36No!
07:37I talk about my feelings when I'm mad!
07:39I talk about my feelings when I'm mad!
07:45Oh, boy.
07:46BJ, why are you so mad at Baby Bop?
07:49Oh, because...
07:51BJ, when you're not angry with Baby Bop,
07:54what do you like best about her?
07:57Well, I guess I like the way she dances
08:00and her little giggle.
08:04But that's only when I'm not mad at her!
08:08Baby Bop, are you mad at BJ?
08:11Yes!
08:12Why?
08:13Just because...
08:15Baby Bop?
08:16Yes, Barney?
08:17I know you're mad at BJ right now,
08:20but if you weren't,
08:22what would be your favorite thing to do with him?
08:25Oh, that's easy!
08:27I go for a walk with him
08:28and he pulls me in my little red wagon!
08:31Oh, that sounds like fun!
08:33Bumpin' up and down in my little red wagon!
08:36Bumpin' up and down in my little red wagon!
08:39Bumpin' up and down in my little red wagon!

09:33Okay!
09:35Oh!
09:37Hi, BJ!
09:38Hi, Sissy!
09:40I'm not talking to you!
09:42Yeah!
09:44I'm not talking to you, either!
09:46Oh, sometimes brothers and sisters fight, but they still love each other.
09:51Ashley, do you and your sister ever argue?
09:54Sometimes, when we don't agree.
09:56Uh-huh.
09:57We like different things.
09:58Like, I want a cat, but Ashley wants a dog.
10:01And I like to sleep with the light on, but Alyssa likes the light off.
10:05I like loud music, and I like soft music.
10:08If you don't like the same things, how do you get along?
10:11Yeah.
10:12We like each other because we're different.
10:14Being different is what makes each of you special.
10:17BJ, what's different about your sister that you like?
10:21Uh...
10:22Well, I guess I like it that she's little.
10:27Baby Bob, what do you like about your brother that's different from you?
10:32Well, he's big.
10:33Did you say big?
10:34Yes.
10:35Big!
10:36Little!
10:37Wow!
10:38Big!
10:39Middle!
10:40Wow!
10:41Big!
10:42Middle!
10:43We're big and little and short and tall.
10:45We're big and little and short and tall.
10:48Some are in the middle, some are very small.
10:52We come in all shapes and sizes.
10:55Hey, little, little, we're big and little and everything in between.
11:02Big!
11:03Little!
11:04Big!
11:05Wow!
11:06Little!
11:07Big!
11:08Little!
11:09We're big and little and short and tall.
11:12Some are in the middle, some are very small.
11:15We come in all shapes and sizes.
11:19Hey, diddle, little, we're big and little and everything in between.
11:25Big!
11:26Little!
11:27Big!
11:28Little!
11:29Big!
11:30Little!
11:31Big!
11:32Little!
11:33Big!
11:34Little!
11:35Big!
11:36Little!
11:37Yay!
11:38I'm going back up to the tree house.
11:41Good.
11:42You go.
11:43I'm going to go get my blankie.
11:46Fine.
11:47Looks like they're still mad at each other.
11:49I'm afraid you're right, Robert.
11:51Maybe we should go check on Baby Bop.
11:54She seems pretty angry.
11:56That's a good idea.
11:58I'll go with you, Jeff.
12:02BJ was pretty upset too.
12:04He sure was.
12:05Oh, brothers and sisters can be very different, can't they?
12:09Yes, even twin sisters can be very different.
12:12But that's exactly what makes me, me.
12:15And Ashley, Ashley.
12:16That's right.
12:17If Alyssa and I did everything the same way and liked all the same things, then no one
12:23could tell who's who.
12:25Oh, but you two are different and very special in your own way.
12:31You are special, you're the only one.
12:34You're the only one like you.
12:36That's right.
12:37There isn't another in the whole wide world who can do the things you do.
12:42Cause you are special, special.
12:46Everyone is special.
12:49Everyone in his or her own way.
12:54Oh, you are special, special.
12:59Everyone is special.
13:01Everyone in his or her own way.
13:06Oh, you are special.
13:11You're in course, you know you really are. You're the only one like you.
13:16The world is better just because you're here. You should know that we love you.
13:22Oh, you are special, special. Everyone is special. Everyone and kids are her own way.
13:32Oh, you are special, special. Everyone is special. Everyone and kids are her own way.
13:45Everyone, everyone and kids are her own way.
13:56Sometimes it's hard to see how important Ashley is to me, especially when we argue.
14:02Yeah, but it's even harder not to have you for my friend.
14:05Well, we'll keep trying to help BJ and Baby Bob be friends again.
14:10Okay, let's go.
14:11All right.
14:18Here we go.
14:19Hey there, BJ. What you doing?
14:21Looking at books.
14:23Oh, I think this is one of Baby Bob's favorite books.
14:27Is it the squirrel that could whirl and twirl?
14:31Oh, I'm nuts for that book.
14:34No.
14:35Well, perhaps you're holding the rickety chickadee.
14:39Oh, or the pleasant pheasant.
14:42Or the foul owl.
14:46No, it's the stinky skunk and the elephant's trunk.
14:51I like to read this to...
14:53Well, I used to like to read this to Baby Bob.
15:04I wish...
15:06Well, I wish...
15:08I wish...
15:09That you had a big ice cream cone?
15:17No.
15:18I wish BJ and I weren't mad at each other.
15:22Would you like me to read a book to you?
15:24No, thanks.
15:25I like it best when BJ reads to me.
15:29He makes reading books fun.
15:33I like the radio.
15:36I love to watch TV.
15:39But every day I make some time for something good to read.
15:47Books are fun.

15:58Is it book time yet?
16:00Oh, I just can't wait to read a book.
16:06Do you know why I love to read a book?
16:10Why I get so happy every time I take a look?
16:13Because books can take me anywhere that I want to go.
16:17Books help my imagination grow.
16:22That's right.
16:24Books are fun.
16:26Books are great.
16:27Let's sit down with a book today.

16:53Good things come with every page I turn.
17:00Books are fun.
17:02Books are great.
17:04Let's sit down with a book today.
17:08Books are fun.

17:19to read a book, book, book, book, book, read a book.
17:28I want to read this book, sissy.
17:30No, I want to read it.
17:33Me.
17:33No, me.
17:35No, me.
17:36No.
17:38I'd love to read the book to both of you.
17:41Hey, everybody.
17:42It's my good friend, Tommy DePaula.
17:45Hi, Mr. DePaula.
17:46Hi, everybody.
17:47Please call me Tommy.
17:49Tommy wrote the book B.J. and Baby Bob want to read.
17:53That's right, Barney, and I drew the pictures, too.
17:56Oh, would you read your book to us, Mr. DePaula?
17:59Sure, B.J.
18:00It's a story about me when I was a little boy about your age.
18:04Oh, cool.
18:05It's called The Baby Sister.
18:09Oh, goody.
18:11Oh, brother.
18:13What's the matter, B.J.?
18:15Oh, I'm just having a little trouble with sissy, Tommy.
18:20Well, you know, B.J., it can be really nice to have a little sister.
18:25Just listen.
18:27Oh, I want to get my blankie.
18:29All right.
18:30Tommy had a mother, a father, two grandmothers, one grandfather, lots of aunts and uncles,
18:39an older brother, Buddy, and a dog named Tootsie.
18:42And lots and lots of cousins.
18:45Wow.
18:46So when Tommy's mother told him that she was going to have a baby, Tommy said,
18:51Can I have a baby, sister, with a red ribbon in her hair?
18:55We'll see, his mother told him.
18:58Can I do something for the baby's room, Tommy asked his mother.
19:01I want to paint a picture for the wall.
19:04Of course you can, his mother said.
19:07And see, here's me when I was a little boy, painting pictures for the baby's room.
19:12Oh, look.
19:13Those are pretty pictures.
19:15What happened next?
19:18As the months passed, Tommy's mother's tummy grew bigger and bigger.
19:23Wow.
19:24The baby's in there, she told Tommy, pointing to her tummy.
19:28Tommy leaned his head against her.
19:31Hi, baby, he whispered.
19:33That night, when Tommy and Buddy were asleep,
19:38their mother told their dad that it was time to go to the hospital.
19:42Don't forget to wake up Tommy when you get home, Joe,
19:44and tell him if he has a new baby sister or a baby brother.
19:48I won't forget, Floss.
19:50I promise, Tommy's father said.
19:53As soon as he got home early in the morning,
19:56Tommy's dad woke him up.
19:59You have a baby sister.
20:02Tommy, Tommy, when can I see the baby?
20:06When can I see mom?
20:07Are they coming home tomorrow?
20:08Oh, slow down, Tommy, his dad told him.
20:10They have to stay at the hospital for a few days at least.
20:14On Sunday, his dad went to the hospital to get his mother and his baby sister.
20:20Everyone else waited at the house.
20:22Nana Fall River, and Nana, his Irish grandmother, his grandfather Tom, Uncle Charles and his girlfriend Viva, Aunt Nell, Buddy, and Tootsie.
20:34Tommy heard the car pull into the driveway.
20:36The door opened, and there was his mother holding a small bundle in her arms.
20:44Tommy hid behind the big armchair as everybody crowded around his mom and the new baby.
20:50Where's Tommy?
20:52His mother asked.
20:53Here I am!
20:54Tommy shouted, jumping up from behind the armchair.
20:57Here I am!
20:58His mother kissed him.
21:01Then Nana Fall River said,
21:03Firenze, Florence, let Nana have the baby.
21:07My friend, Nana Fall River said, turning to Tommy,
21:10sit down so you can hold your new sister.
21:15Tommy sat in the big armchair,
21:17and Nana placed the warm bundle in his arms and folded back the blanket.
21:23Tommy's baby sister, Maureen, with a red ribbon in her hair, looked up at him.
21:31And Tommy was the happiest boy in the world.
21:36The end.
21:37Oh, yay!
21:40Thanks for reading your book to us, Tommy.
21:43It was a good story.
21:45Oh, it was.
21:46I like the part where you got to hold your baby sister the day she came home from the hospital.
21:52Yeah.
21:52Was your little sister really that special to you?
21:56She sure was, B.J.
21:58In fact, she's still my best friend in the world.
22:01Oh.
22:03Here's a picture of the two of us.
22:04Oh, wow.
22:06I was about your age, B.J., and Maureen was about your age, baby bop.
22:11Oh, she's giving you a big hug.
22:15And I still give him lots of hugs.
22:17Oh, hello there, Maureen.
22:21Everybody, this is Tommy's little sister, Maureen.
22:25But she's all grown up now.
22:27Hi, baby bop.
22:29You see, B.J., baby bop, brothers and sisters are more than just members of the same family.
22:36They can be friends for life.
22:38That's right, Barney.
22:40It's great to do things with a big brother, like riding bikes or feeding the birds or taking walks.
22:46In fact, we're going to spend the afternoon in the park together.
22:50So, goodbye, everybody.
