00:00Many, many years ago when the people of Israel
00:29were a great nation ruled by King Saul,
00:32they fought a long and bitter war
00:33against their ancient enemies, the Philistines.
00:36In those days, soldiers used swords and spears
00:40and bows and arrows,
00:41and they wore heavy armor and carried shields
00:43to protect themselves in battle
00:45so that only the biggest and strongest men
00:48were taken into the army.
00:55Well, in this war,
00:57the Israelites and the Philistines
00:59were pretty evenly matched.
01:01They fought many hard battles
01:02and each side lost many men,
01:04but neither side could completely conquer the other.
01:07Then one day,
01:09while the Philistines were camped
01:10on one side of the great valley
01:12and the Israelites on the other,
01:13there came out of the camp of the Philistines
01:16a champion of their cause,
01:19a huge giant,
01:21taller and stronger
01:23and bigger
01:24than any man anyone had ever seen.
01:26He wore very heavy armor
01:34and his face was fierce and cruel,
01:36so fierce and cruel
01:37that it would strike fear
01:39into the hearts of the bravest.
01:40This was Goliath,
01:43the giant of Gath.
01:44He strode to the center of the valley,
01:47faced the armies of Israel
01:48and in a voice like thunder,
01:50he hurled his defiance at them.
01:54I am Goliath,
01:55the giant of Gath,
01:56and the Philistines have chosen me
01:58as their champion.
02:00You, soldiers of Israel,
02:01choose a man for you
02:03and let him come down here
02:04and fight with me.
02:06If he kills me,
02:08we will be the servants of Israel.
02:10If I kill him,
02:12you will be slaves to the Philistines.
02:15I defy any man to accept my challenge.
02:17When the men of Israel saw Goliath
02:26and heard his defiant challenge,
02:28they were afraid,
02:30for they had no one
02:31to match his size and strength.
02:34Not one among them
02:35dared go down
02:37and do battle with the giants.
02:38Not, that is,
02:43until the shepherd boy David
02:45heard Goliath's challenge.
02:47Now David was just a boy.
02:49He knew nothing about swords
02:51and spears and fighting wars.
02:53But he was a thoughtful boy too
02:55and a good boy
02:56because he believed in God
02:58and trusted in him.
03:01So, when he heard Goliath
03:03defying King Saul's army,
03:05he turned to his brothers
03:06and said,
03:06In defying the army of Israel,
03:10Goliath defies God.
03:12Is there no one here
03:13to go out and do battle
03:14against the enemy of the Lord?
03:20David's brothers were first surprised
03:22and then angry at him.
03:23Go back to your flocks
03:24and leave wars for fighting men.
03:28But David wouldn't be put off.
03:30I will do it, he said.
03:32Send word to King Saul.
03:34Tell him that I will go down
03:35into the valley
03:35and do battle with Goliath the giant.
03:40When the king saw
03:41how determined David was,
03:43he gave him his blessing
03:44and offered him
03:45his own royal armor and sword.
03:47But David wouldn't take them.
03:48He wasn't a soldier.
03:50Instead,
03:51he went to a nearby stream
03:52and selected five smooth stones.
03:55He put these in his shepherd's bag.
03:57He took his stick in his left hand
03:59and in his right hand
04:00he held a slingshot.
04:01That's all.
04:02With both armies looking on,
04:04excited and expectant,
04:05David went down into the valley
04:07to meet Goliath.
04:11They met in the middle of the valley.
04:13David looking up at the giant,
04:14confident and unafraid,
04:16and Goliath looking down
04:17on the unarmed boy
04:18with eyes full of hatred.
04:20Suddenly,
04:21the giant Philistine
04:22roared in a terrible fury.
04:25I have defied
04:26all the armies of Israel
04:27to give me a man to fight,
04:29and they have sent a boy against me.
04:31What?
04:32Am I a dog?
04:33That you come against me
04:34with a stick?
04:35David answered him calmly.
04:40I come against you
04:42in the name of the Lord of hosts,
04:44the God of the armies of Israel,
04:47whom you have defied.
04:48Your sword and your spear
04:50and your shield
04:51will not save you, Goliath,
04:52for this day you shall learn
04:54that the Lord fights
04:56on the side of right.
04:57Goliath let out an angry snarl.
05:00So be it.
05:01Defend yourself, boy.
05:06Goliath the giant rushed forward
05:08to make quick work
05:09of the boy champion
05:10of the Israelites.
05:11David stood his ground.
05:13He reached into his shepherd's bag,
05:15took out one stone.
05:17He fixed it in his slingshot,
05:18and he let it fly.
05:29The giant was dead,
05:31and the simple shepherd boy,
05:33who trusted in God,
05:34had done what all of King Saul's army
05:37hadn't been able to do.
05:38David lifted his eyes to heaven,
05:41and he whispered a prayer.
05:42Oh, and I shall see you.
05:43He said it in my way,
05:45to Donnelly,
05:45there is a quick prayer for you.
05:45Let us fear you,
05:47whatever you mean.
05:48That's good.
05:49Amazing.
05:49Amen.
05:50We are alive now.
05:51Beautiful.
05:52Beautiful.
05:52Awesome.
05:53I will do it out for you.
05:53And let us see you.
05:55I feel a bit too loud,
05:56and take you.
05:57I know it in my eyes to the side
05:57of mine.
