Gurugram (Haryana), June 22, 2025 (ANI): Speaking on US President Donald Trump's statements, Foreign Affairs Expert Sushant Sareen slammed Donald Trump for not sticking to his statements. He said that ‘Donald Trump says many things, and you don’t know what he will stick to and won’t.’ He said, "...How seriously does one take Donald Trump?... Donald Trump says many things, and you don't know what he will stick to and won't... Numerous statements are also coming from the Iranian side, accompanied by many rhetorical flourishes... Do the Iranians want a never-ending war with a country like the United States? Does the United States want a prolonged conflict? It has already engaged in two or three wars without a clear endgame. It's a very messy situation. Although statements will be amplified, I don't believe statements necessarily indicate the trajectory of future events..."
00:00Donald Trump says many things and you don't know what he's actually going to stick to and what he's not.
00:09A lot of rhetorical flourishes are coming from the Iranian side.
00:12Does the United States want a long drawn out tour?
00:15It's already got into two or three wars.
00:18It's a very messy situation.
00:19Right now there are a lot of statements during the rounds.
00:22One is Donald Trump's statement, how seriously does one take Donald Trump?
00:26I think there is an open question about that.
00:28But Donald Trump says many things and you don't know what he's actually going to stick to and what he's not.
00:38So one is that part of it.
00:40The second is there are a lot of statements coming from the Iranian side as well.
00:46And a lot of rhetorical flourishes are coming from the Iranian side.
00:50The gates of hell will open and all sorts of other things.
00:53Cities will burn.
00:54All kinds of stuff is coming from them.
00:56That this will be a never ending war.
01:00Do the Iranians actually want a never ending war with some country like the United States?
01:07Does the United States want a long drawn out tour?
01:10It's already got into two or three wars and not really come out with any kind of an end game.
01:17So it's a very messy situation.
01:20I think statements will of course be played up.
01:23But beyond that point, I don't think statements necessarily point to the trajectory of events that will take place.
01:32Sir, one question to Greece, the United Nations, General Secretary Antonio Guterres, give a very strong statement, says America has broken up the law and also escalations are not at the world level.
01:46How would you look at the UN statement?
01:48I don't know if anybody even takes the UN Secretary General seriously anymore.
01:53What is his worth to anybody anyways?
01:56He just keeps talking endlessly.
01:59He has, as Stalin said in the Second World War about the Pope, how many divisions does the UN Secretary General command?
02:07Only losing or losers from Pakistan quote Antonio Guterres and take his statement seriously.
02:17I don't think any serious country in the world takes the UN seriously anymore.
02:21Last question, sir.
02:22If the fastest growing economics, if Iran's state of hormones stopped, how much will it impact India?
02:30Look, it will impact India.
02:32I don't think we can say it won't impact India.
02:35There are two big issues, immediate issues will be, one will be energy security.
02:42Can our energy supplies, a lot of which come from that region, will they be able to come to India?
02:50So, there is that issue.
02:52I think we have a strategic reserve which can hold up for a few weeks, maybe a few months, but not endlessly.
03:00So, one is the energy security, the supply of oil, whether that can be obtained.
03:07The second problem is going to be the price of oil.
03:10Now, if the streets of Hormuz are blocked, the price of oil is likely to go up.
03:15So, even if you can divert your energy supplies from other countries, you can buy from Venezuela, you can buy from Russia, you can buy from Nigeria, many other countries.
03:26Angola, even if you can divert your supplies from Saudi Arabia or Iraq, which are one of our main suppliers, the question is the price of oil.
03:41If it goes up, then that has an impact on our economy.
03:44That has an impact on the global economy.
03:46So, yes, that will have.
03:48And then if the war spreads, then we have another problem.
03:53We've already seen Operation Sindhu in which we got our students and other people who were living in Iran out.
04:01But supposing the war spreads, we have far, far, far more people living in places like UAE, Saudi Arabia, many of the other Arab countries.
04:12And if the war spreads, then it is virtually impossible to pull people out and bring them to safety.
04:21So, there is the question of the diaspora.
04:23And then the fourth thing is about our trade flows.
04:28You know, we do a lot of trade, for example, with UAE, with Saudi Arabia, with many of the other countries.
04:35If the sea routes become unnavigable because of the war, then our trade flows start getting affected.
04:44Already, we have seen some impact because of the Red Sea, the problems in the Red Sea.
04:49So, it's not just the Straits of Hormuz.
04:51We've also seen Iran's allies in Yemen, the Houthis, say that they are now going to block the Bab al-Manda,
04:59which means that the access to the Suez Canal gets blocked and that becomes a big problem
05:05because that means that two of very important sea routes get closed.
05:12We can find some alternatives, but that will be expensive.
