00:00Hi, I'm Rosemary Bailey.
00:02And I'm Andrew Coltenuk and we're the directors of The Truth About Lying.
00:05Hello, my name is J.D. Martin and I am the first assistant director.
00:08My name is Ryan Harris and I am the producer.
00:11My name is Kian Magner and on The Truth About Lying I am the cinematographer.
00:15My name is James Bielow and I'll be the head of post-production.
00:19The Truth About Lying is a senior thesis project about a young woman, Thea,
00:24who starts her first semester of college with a cancer diagnosis that she's determined to keep to herself.
00:29Thea is a somewhat jaded but bright character who struggles to process grief
00:34and so she has kind of enclosed herself in a protective bubble and she doesn't want to talk to anyone.
00:40Until reconnecting with an estranged friend, Claire.
00:44Claire is shy and struggles making friends.
00:47This story is about the two of them trying to connect and Claire really trying to make Thea open up
00:52and release some of that grief that she has.
00:55Rosie asked me if I wanted to be the cinematographer on this project and I was like yes because I love working with Rosie,
01:04I love this team, but I didn't even have to have read the story to know it was going to be a good project
01:08because I know Rosie's work and everything she writes and does is like super, super good.
01:14When I first heard the log line to when I first read the script, all of it just sort of came together in such a beautiful way
01:22and I think the characters all feel so human and you see yourself a little bit in each of them
01:27and just seeing that on the page made me really want to be a part of bringing it to the big screen.
01:33When you have two female leads, they're usually fighting about guys, cat fights or just shopping.
01:39In this film, you see them connect on a very human level and it reminds me of the conversations that I have with my best friend.
01:48The film deals with themes of friendship, mortality, truth and it asks the question,
01:53does lying make living easier if the truth is painful?
01:56The truth is hard to hear. The truth could hurt feelings and cause disconnect.
02:02But really like this script is kind of saying like, no, like the truth is what needs to be said
02:07and the truth is going to build connection.
02:09If you have the money to spare, it's super helpful for you guys to do it and help us tell this story
02:14and we want to bring you along on this journey.
