00:00Release that hand down to the back and then inhale slowly rise up one vertebrae, five vertebrae to reach and extend through standing. Fingertips reach up high to the side with your knees.
00:16Now just take a moment to ground down through the soles of your feet, feeling the vibration of the sitting beneath you.
00:23So come high on your stiffy toes. Exhale, left finger just flips behind you. In your back, keep that opening from here.
00:34And you're going to interlock your fingers in the second low back. Pull the fist down.
00:39I'm going to turn you over to Douglas Stewart, co-founder of the event.
00:43Thank you, Tom. Thank you. Thank you so much.
00:47It's really wonderful to see you all and to come and celebrate the summer solstice.
00:53The sun is rising, rising, rising, moving forward and upward constantly just as we are when we practice yoga.
01:02We came up with this idea of let's just see if we can bring yoga in Times Square to help everybody feel good.
01:09It was a pretty volatile time then in terms of politics and all of that. Still the same.
01:14And we thought that by bringing yoga in Times Square, it would help people to feel better.
01:19Thinks will help you feel better.
01:32Inhale, Long Hands is coming up to the sky, Brainция goes behind you.
01:37With Control, Plant that foot in between your hands.
01:42Lower your back, Cheez-down.
01:44Times Square, as you know, is the busiest place, I think, on the planet with many distractions.
01:52And we wanted to see if it's possible to find peace in this place that I live, in New York City.
02:00And over the years, it has grown.
02:02That experiment is being conducted.
02:04People still come to Times Square.
02:07And you'll notice that over the course of time in the middle of the class,
02:10you'll find that people are starting to calm down.
02:13The nerves start to drain, and you feel calm.
02:16And it's really peaceful here, even though there's lots of distractions here in the city.
02:22Inhale, slowly rise up.
02:24Take your left hand part behind you.
02:28Lift your hips.
02:36Inhale, rise up.
02:39Cross your legs.
02:40Well, the first time we started was just three of us.
02:44It was me, Tim Tompkins, the co-founder, and one of my other students.
02:48We were right over there, in the middle of the square.
02:52It was raining cats and dogs, so there were only three of us here.
02:56And then over the years, I think maybe the next year was 120 people.
03:00And then soon, I think we are expecting 9,000 people today or so.
03:06Exhale, release the back down.
03:13Fall in stock.
03:17Landing down the hand, pull your right leg up high to the sky.
03:23Exhale, knee two.
03:24Well, I come every year.
03:27I've been coming since 2019, 18, 19.
03:42What do you think about doing yoga in Times Square?
03:46Bryce was, you know, you tune everything out.
03:50It's magical.
04:06Well, my wife and I started doing yoga about a year ago in our small town.
04:10And a friend of ours, every year, comes to Times Square, and he said it was a wonderful experience.
04:17And it's yoga, it's New York, and it's kind of a date for my wife and I, so.
04:29I spent a lot of time in Manhattan over the past decade,
04:35so this is kind of the, probably the most fun I would have had outside.
04:40It's kind of a nice, refreshing change.
04:44Head, tail, fully lower the hips.
04:47Hold back over here and extend in left leg.
04:50I've been attending for the past two years.
04:52Last year was the first time.
04:54I love this summer solstice.
04:57And exhale.
05:00Hold back over here.
05:02I want to be fit and healthy.
05:06Thank you for this moment, this opportunity to be here.
05:11Gaze forward, flat back.
05:13Inhale, open it back up, baby back bend.
05:17Exhale, with your gaze.
05:22And inhale.
05:24Exhale, hold forward.
05:26Reach towards that ankle.
05:28So...
05:29May you move through your day sharing your unique vibration, your music,
05:38to yourself and all those that share this moment.
