00:01What's it called? Grade school? Grade school sucks. Kids are mean. I would know I was one of them.
00:09My name is Cecilia Morris and I'm the co-writer and director of Duns Cat Boy.
00:13I'm the co-writer and producer.
00:15I wrote the story and I did some storyboards.
00:18I am the assistant director on the project Duns Cat Boy.
00:21I am doing art department with Raquel Palma.
00:24And I'm doing set design.
00:25I'm the cinematographer on set.
00:27You're kind of told this thing when you come into film school.
00:30Don't have child actors.
00:31And this project was like, hey, let's get a classroom full of kids and try to make this thing work.
00:37Duns Cat Boy is about Duns Cat Boy.
00:40And basically he goes to school, he gets in trouble because he's distracted a lot.
00:45And so he has to wear Duns Cat and it won't come off.
00:48His classmates start to bully him and they ostracize him and it goes on for a while.
00:54And finally a new girl comes along.
00:56So they start bullying her instead.
00:58And after a while he kind of joins in.
01:00He has to make this choice of whether or not he wants to become like his bullies or be different and still be ostracized.
01:09The audience is going to question, is this a sad story? Is it a happy story?
01:14And it's kind of this tightrope of in between, but the ending is just so sweet.
01:18I think that we have all dealt with like bullies growing up, middle school, high school.
01:22The story is like, it's kind of like it's an emotional road trip.
01:24It takes us down that struggle and that path.
01:27It reminds us that we need to always treat others as we want to be treated.
01:32Standing up for people doesn't go unnoticed.
01:34I was bullied as a kid, but also I was a bully.
01:38This film is a really good opportunity for students and families to see a different side of an innocent world that we've lost.
01:49And needing to stand up for what you believe in.
01:53It's something that we all need to strive for.
01:56There have definitely been periods of my life where I felt isolated.
01:59And I think that this story has a really strong theme of that.
02:04The main character really portrays kindness very well.
02:07And I think that if the audience could take away one thing, it would be to learn from his actions and kind of take away from his personality.
02:16The biggest lesson that I took away from it is the importance of how you see yourself and how you see others.
02:23I completely fell in love with the characters of Denska Boy and Jenny.
02:28I really hope that the audience takes away a sense of joy and belonging by watching our film.
02:35Just like laugh and dance. Life is short.
