00:00A boy that says you're too much for him will never be man enough for you.
00:04You've literally got the personality of a pebble. I can't do it.
00:06I've got booting up! I've got nothing left!
00:08Hi guys, it's Jodie here from ODE.
00:10Love Island is back, which means we are so back!
00:14And we're kicking off our chats for this series with a girl I think we can all agree
00:19deserve to be in that villa a lot longer.
00:21It's Sophie!
00:23Hello, hello, hello!
00:25Thank you for having me.
00:27Thank you so much for coming in.
00:28I mean, your life must just be a rollercoaster right now.
00:32What's going on?
00:33Yes, I feel like everything is coming into my life so fast, but I'm here for it.
00:39I'm excited and the villa was just a small part of my journey, of my life.
00:44So this part of my life is even more hectic than when I was in there, which, you know,
00:49it's a new adventure.
00:50And obviously you did go so early and everybody's gutted about that.
00:54I mean, how do you feel about it?
00:56Have you managed to make peace with it?
00:57I felt like I didn't go in there with an expectation of achieving anything other than finding love,
01:04creating new connections.
01:05Because if you attach yourself to, like, an end result of something that is so out of your hands,
01:12you're going to be disappointed, right?
01:13And bless her, Shakira, she had to make a choice.
01:16So all is fair.
01:18Like, I don't feel like it was anything bad or there's bad blood there.
01:22The girl had to make a choice.
01:24We've seen it happen before where there's been, like, a quick dumping, but it's always shocking because you're like,
01:29how can they dump someone so quickly?
01:30I mean, were you shocked in that moment as well?
01:32I think everyone in the house was, especially because, you know, as an audience, you get a buildup of meet our cast.
01:39And we're so excited for you to meet our cast.
01:41And then, obviously, the first few days is where you create connection with the audience.
01:45So when you don't have that, obviously, the audience are a bit like, what?
01:50Flabbergasted.
01:51But this is the, uh, the ideas of showbiz.
01:54What did you think of the twist this year where they got you to stand behind the name and there was just, like, a little bit of info?
02:02That was, like, giving dating app vibes.
02:04Yeah.
02:05And I feel like the twist, okay, I get it.
02:08But, I mean, I was talking about I want a serious relationship.
02:12So I only really had one option.
02:15I didn't really have that many options.
02:17So I went with my heart and I chose Harry.
02:20I don't regret it.
02:20But I do feel like, you know, the way he's moving is a little bit, a little bit crazy.
02:26A little bit crazy.
02:27But, hey, the guy's doing what he needs to do.
02:30So.
02:31Because Harry is the oldest boy.
02:32Is that right?
02:33Yeah.
02:34Yeah.
02:35The math ain't mathin'.
02:36It's giving ABCD AFG.
02:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:39What?
02:39I have to go.
02:40Yeah.
02:41What's going on?
02:42And as well, because I said, I'm looking for marriage.
02:45These are the things that I want in my life.
02:47Maybe a little bit later, but those are the things that I want.
02:49And his was the only one that said either wildcard or marriage.
02:53So I'd be a hypocrite if I picked someone that didn't mention marriage and he was the
02:58only one that mentioned marriage.
02:59I'd be like, girl, this is what you wanted.
03:01Why are you not picking that?
03:02But it's Love Island as well.
03:03So people might be like, oh, that's quite intense to say what you want straight away.
03:06But at this point, it's like, if you know what you're looking for, then why mess around?
03:10Yeah, I'm not going to.
03:11I'm 29.
03:13I'm a woman.
03:14You know, I'm not going to tell people, oh, I just want this and I want a bit of fun.
03:18And then be like, oh, but then he, he hurt me.
03:22Well, then you need to go in there already knowing what you want.
03:24There was a moment with Harry that annoyed me as a girl that's been told a lot that I'm too much.
03:31He did make a comment saying that it was a bit much for him.
03:34I don't really know what he was talking about.
03:36Like the context.
03:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:38So it was basically our first chat together.
03:41And he asked me, you know, what I do and about my life.
03:45And obviously my life is about, well, what I do is my job as a motivational speaker and an author has become because of my life.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Because of the life experience that I had.
03:54And so I naturally kind of wove into that lane.
03:57And I also kept the conversation going by asking him what he does.
04:02And he basically said it was a bit much for him, which, okay.
04:08Okay.
04:08What does that even mean?
04:09Do you know what I mean?
04:11Well, then in my defense and for any other girl that's ever had that, especially yourself, a man, well, a boy that says you're too much for him will never be man enough for you.
04:22Facts.
04:23Do it that way you will.
04:24She's spitting facts.
04:24Yeah.
04:26Let's just, you know, get straight to the point.
04:28And if that's too much, cool.
04:31At least you told me you're too much.
04:32Let's move on.
04:33Next.
04:33I've seen a lot of comments saying that the villa didn't deserve you.
04:38You are too mature for it.
04:40Looking at the show now, are you kind of glad things have worked out the way they've worked out?
04:45I feel like I knew what I signed up for.
04:48That's why I wasn't crying my eyes out hysterical.
04:51Like, I'm in a part of my life where I, at one point, was a broken girl.
04:57You know, I was not even a, I was a shell of a human being.
05:00So, I had to put so much love back into myself.
05:02And I'm finally in a place where I'm ready to explore love in someone else and give that love to someone else.
05:08So, I knew what I signed up for.
05:10And it wasn't to be.
05:13But you don't get to choose who you're in there with.
05:16What's this up?
05:16You know?
05:17There's people like Scott Thomas, where when he went in, especially for All Stars, he's grown so much.
05:22Yeah.
05:23You know, and I have so much respect for the guy.
05:25Like, I think he's incredible for what he does now.
05:27Raises awareness.
05:28Even though, yeah, he's been through a part where he's partied and he's been that guy.
05:33You know, the conversation would have been so different.
05:36So, Scott, if you're watching.
05:38Oh, no, no, no.
05:39It's not like that.
05:40Oh, no.
05:40I've known Scott for years.
05:41But I'm just saying, in terms of, like, the growth, the level of conversation.
05:45But I could see that, though.
05:46I could really see that.
05:48Looking at the villa now with the boys, is there anybody that you would have been interested in now?
05:54And that's fair enough.
05:56The silence is deafening.
05:58I don't know.
05:59For me, the boys get asked me what my type was.
06:02And to me, type is not subjective or objective.
06:05I cannot just tell you, he needs to be this tall and he needs to be this and this, this.
06:09Because he could be all those things and tick it off.
06:11But if he's got the personality of a wall, I can't work with that.
06:18Do you get what I mean?
06:18Like, you've literally got the personality of a pebble.
06:21I can't do it.
06:23And this is why I'm saying, you know, I'm not going to say, he's got to look like this, he's got to look like that.
06:29At one point, I didn't look like this.
06:31So, for me to say that type is based off aesthetic, I think is very shallow of me to say.
06:37And I wouldn't ever say that because there's more to a man and a person than just what you look like.
06:43But on the kind of mentality and the personalities then, just...
06:47To be fair, I got on with Blue.
06:49Blue's funny.
06:50And you and Blue have been around together.
06:53But he's like brother.
06:55Right.
06:55And also Ben.
06:57He's actually lovely.
06:57And Tommy.
06:58Okay.
06:58Tommy's showing his maturity at this point.
07:00Yes.
07:01Yes.
07:02Tommy is really showing his morals, his maturity and his values.
07:06And I think, I was saying yesterday, the ones that are meant to be older, paving the way.
07:12The leaders of the house.
07:15You're leading them into oblivion.
07:18Did you say Ben there as well?
07:20You quit like Ben.
07:20Yes.
07:21Okay.
07:21Ben, I think this is the thing.
07:23When you establish a boundary of respect because you're not in there to graft them.
07:28It's more of a platonic thing of like friendship.
07:30Okay.
07:31The level of conversation is so different because you're not there trying to impress the girl.
07:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:36I feel like we need you in there still for the girls because I feel like they're losing their heads a little bit.
07:43The sense of community's broke.
07:44Yeah.
07:44There's no sense of community and everyone's...
07:47It's all every man for themselves at the minute.
07:49The girls are fighting.
07:51The girls are fighting.
07:52We don't need that, girls.
07:53Come on, we need to stick together.
07:54What would be Sophie's advice to the girls right now in the villa?
07:59I feel like when you're in there, you don't see everything that's going on.
08:05Especially like with Meg and Dajon, how he's like, I don't know.
08:09It's like he stirred the pot and then it turned into a tornado and then he ran away.
08:14But then he came back to like fix it a little bit and then he stirred it more and then ran away again.
08:19It was just a bit like...
08:21But obviously when you're in there, you don't know what's going on.
08:24You only have the chat between them.
08:26Like when I saw Dajon saying, you're the only girl for me, but then I want to explore Malisha.
08:32And I was thinking...
08:33And then he was giving her a kiss on the hand and then he was doing a handshake.
08:37I was thinking, this guy.
08:39Yeah.
08:39I have been down this road before and it is a rickety rockety road that leads into nowhere good.
08:45We need you to go back in and give them like...
08:47There needs to be sessions where they go and speak to you and you say, right.
08:50Imagine, I just...
08:51I'm not a contestant.
08:52You need to be a consultant.
08:53I'm the council.
08:54Yeah, I'm a consultant.
08:56I'm the consultant here.
08:57You're on the clock.
08:58It's going to cost you.
09:00Right, I'm Meg.
09:01What would you say to me?
09:02There's going to be more.
09:03There's going to be more.
09:04And they're going to be throwing them in hot and fast.
09:07Don't worry about it.
09:08And Dijon is going to be quaking his little football boots.
09:12And last night's episode, Dijon got annoyed at Harrison because Meg obviously picked him
09:18in the challenge to kiss him or whatever.
09:20Didn't they just like rig the game so they could kiss whoever they wanted?
09:23Now that Meg wants to kiss who she wants, the boys are crying.
09:28The boys are going to be crying.
09:29How do we get you back in there?
09:33Who do we need to speak to?
09:34HR.
09:35Get them on the phone.
09:37I feel like to save the girls, you need to go in there.
09:41I feel like they would have really listened.
09:43I'm not going to lie because when they're all in there, it's like the boys are kind of
09:47playing them off against each other and they're liking it.
09:51So then when the girls are fighting each other and arguing, the boys are thinking, I can say
09:56anything to her and she'll believe me.
09:57But then on the flip side of that, do we think people are saying they're not closed off,
10:03but actually that's maybe a little bit of a white lie because deep down emotionally they
10:09feel like...
10:10They're attached, closed off.
10:11Yes.
10:11Not officially closed off because there's no been, will you be my girlfriend?
10:14Will you be my boyfriend?
10:15But I think with the emotional side, especially the way that the house is moving, it's moving
10:21really fast paced this year.
10:23I think it's the fastest it's ever moved.
10:25Yeah.
10:25But then we don't see obviously everything that goes on.
10:28We see an hour out of 24 hours.
10:29So do you think the boys are maybe feeding the girls that kind of language of, you know,
10:33you're the one for me.
10:34They are getting sweet nothings whispered in their ears all day long.
10:39The pillow talk is rife.
10:41Rife.
10:42Those girls are, they're just women fall in love through their ears, men fall in love
10:50through their eyes.
10:51The tale as old as time.
10:54That's why when I was in there, I was like, you need to just wind your neck in and tell me
10:57what's what because what I'm hearing is not correlating to what I'm seeing.
11:01So.
11:02I think there was a clip of you actually where you were, someone was talking about they gave
11:05someone a kiss or something to do with a kiss and you were just giving advice and I was
11:09like, this is why Sophie needs to still be in there.
11:11Because they were literally, the girls were like, I should have kissed him.
11:13I went, no, that doesn't mean anything.
11:16You need to kiss him when it's natural and right for you because you can kiss one person
11:20and then you can kiss another person and then your kisses mean nothing.
11:23It's like, for me, those are things that mean something when you do it, not because it's
11:29to, to, to make sure that we're latched in, like we're locked in.
11:33Yeah.
11:33And this is what I want to try and explain to the girls, not in a way where it made them
11:37feel bad because I get it.
11:39At one point you probably thought, oh, I should have kissed him.
11:42But I just wanted to explain to them, like, there's more than that to it.
11:46If you think about it, yeah, there's been comments saying that maybe you're a bit too
11:51old, too mature, but you've got to think, I'm 29, 30 nearly.
11:56We were the era that watched the start of Love Island.
11:58Yes, it was our show first.
11:59Yeah, it was our show first.
12:01We're the OGs.
12:03So if anything, the people that are watching the show, their mums, their dads, they've,
12:06you know, they got married.
12:08I'm within the small pool that didn't get that.
12:11So now that I've been watching the show since however age, literally 29, 10 years ago, give
12:19a girl a chance.
12:20I know, and you're 29, like, it's, that's not, we're talking as if that's like, oh, it's
12:24not.
12:24Gen Z will pay for their crimes.
12:26It is.
12:26But.
12:28Gen Z will be crying.
12:29Yes.
12:30We'll be crying.
12:31Gen Z, let us live.
12:32Let me live.
12:33Let us breathe, man.
12:35Listen, I got nothing left.
12:36I got nothing left.
12:38I got booting up.
12:39I got nothing left.
12:40If we want to do our boomerangs, let us live.
12:43Okay.
12:43We like a boomerang.
12:44Yeah.
12:45Oh my goodness.
12:46And I think that's one thing that I was, I was like, I'm old.
12:51I know.
12:51Does it, does it kind of feel like that a little bit?
12:53Does it feel quite polarized when you're like, okay, they're making me out to be older.
12:56I'm really not.
12:57No, because we look stunning.
12:59Yeah.
12:59Still at 29, we're looking fine, drinking wine.
13:02Oh, I love that.
13:04But I think as long as you feel young in yourself, like you said, there's no timeline, no pressure
13:09to do anything.
13:10But I've also been saying for ages that I would like to see people that are a little bit older.
13:13Because I do feel like when you're in your earlier 20s, there's less kind of pressure
13:18on finding that person that you actually want to be with long term.
13:21I put less, less effort in.
13:23Well, I was saying this, I said, in my 20s, I had a fire accident.
13:26It only took my life.
13:28So I was 22 when that happened.
13:29I wasn't ready to date.
13:31And I wasn't in a place where I felt confident.
13:33I felt beautiful.
13:34I felt worthy.
13:35I had to work on those things in myself to become this woman that I am now.
13:39And it's not just come easy.
13:43So to me, dating and intimacy and things like that, it's more than just about physical.
13:49Intimacy is about being vulnerable with your significant other and being able to hold that
13:54space that's safe to talk about things that, you know, if this is going to be my partner,
13:59he's going to have to support me through some days that I can't support myself emotionally.
14:03And the same with him.
14:04If some days he's giving 60%, I'm going to have to give the extra 40% because that's
14:08my teammate.
14:10That's my guy.
14:11That's my ride or die, you know.
14:14And these are things that I thought about before wasting someone's time, wasting my own time.
14:22I know you were only there for a short time, but I do feel like you made an impact.
14:25And there's a lot of love out there for you as well.
14:27Yeah, I think that was it.
14:29As long as I had a short but sweet time, but made an impact.
14:32Because sometimes you can just be a little, like, oh, blip, you know, next.
14:39Yeah, you've certainly not been forgotten.
14:41Absolutely not.
14:42But you have made history on the show because you're the first contestant to have a facial
14:46disfigurement.
14:47I mean, that's something that no one can take away from you, right?
14:49You've made history.
14:51And I'm very proud, very honoured that I am the first contestant ever on a show that is
14:58based off looks, aesthetics, to represent a community of trauma survivors for our beauty
15:04in all forms.
15:05And I think for the young girls, young boys watching the show who are of the new generation,
15:13to know that you can go through something in life and life will be amazing as long as
15:18you are resilient and you put that into your life.
15:23You know, the resilience, the things that you want, they're your goals, they're your aspirations.
15:28And I think a lot of people think that this show is just based off looks, but we're actually
15:33people.
15:34Do you know what?
15:34I feel like this has turned into a motivational podcast and I'm absolutely here for it.
15:37I'm absolutely loving it.
15:39Do you know what?
15:40On Aftersun, I got hate because people were like, she's trying to be a motivational speaker.
15:43She's da-da-da.
15:44It's your job.
15:46Hello?
15:47Is it a crime?
15:48Right.
15:49And then I was like, but I'm just positive.
15:51Yeah.
15:52Everything that I see is not, I speak about or like I see in life is not doom and gloom because
15:57I, hello, I've heard worse than you're dumped.
16:00Yeah.
16:01I've heard worse in my life than you're dumped from the island.
16:04Like.
16:05Right.
16:06So what are the next steps for you then?
16:08What do you want to do next?
16:09Super exciting things to come.
16:11I'm still loving being a motivational speaker.
16:14I love my job.
16:15I'm not going to just quit my job and just forget where I come from.
16:18So many more things to come with that.
16:22I'm motivational speaking.
16:23Obviously, it's early days because I've only just left the villa.
16:27It's been a week.
16:29There's still seven more weeks, guys.
16:31Seven more weeks.
16:33It's a long hot summer.
16:33Yep.
16:34A hot, hot summer.
16:35So people are also saying you should go on Love is Blind and like the other reality shows.
16:39Right.
16:40So I got asked what I do love is blind and my answer to that is I love the concept.
16:46But also that brings me back to the whole are you whispering sweet nothings to me with a wall because I need to see conviction.
16:54I need to see that it's coming from, you know, with some energy because I feel like body language is very big.
17:02Eye contact is also very big.
17:05And I know as well my story is I don't want to be to be a sob story.
17:10So I don't want to say the story and he feels sorry for me.
17:14I want you to know about me.
17:16Yeah.
17:16I do believe though, like, we need to put the mature kings.
17:20Yeah.
17:21Mature kings step forward as this though.
17:24I think we're in an epidemic.
17:26I don't think they exist anymore.
17:27Honestly, Sophie, it's hell out here.
17:29It really is.
17:30Ah, just crack.
17:31I know.
17:32I know.
17:32Has there been anybody that's caught your eye?
17:35Anybody in the DM so far?
17:36I know it's still fresh and you're just out the villa.
17:38But I've saw you at events.
17:40I've saw you mingling with other islanders.
17:42Has there been anything?
17:43I've not had any, I've not really had any chance to, to scour through.
17:51But I feel like maybe we should do a bit of a searching.
17:55Mature king?
17:56Who's lurking in the DMs.
17:58Is there anybody you've got your eye on from like any previous seasons?
18:01I think you said Ovi, is that right?
18:02I mean, that mature king.
18:04Yeah.
18:05The way he took India's hand and led her away.
18:07The women will never forget.
18:10We will never forget.
18:12The way he just led her away.
18:14Like, no, my princess does not need this.
18:17We do not need this drama in life.
18:19She was like.
18:20Take notes.
18:21Yeah.
18:22Write that down.
18:23Note that down.
18:24Follow through.
18:24So a man like Ovi then?
18:26Yes.
18:27But he was like, I'm not going on the valley ever again.
18:29So there's another dream.
18:30Do you know what you're out and about?
18:31You're out and about in the world.
18:33You know, you're at the same events.
18:36We might facilitate a meeting.
18:38I'm joking.
