Chinese PhD student jailed for life after being exposed as serial rapist who filmed attacks as trophies

00:00I am Detective Inspector Richard McKenzie with Metropolitan Police.

00:04I was the SIO for this case and my team led the investigation into Zen Hao Zoe.

00:09Firstly, I want to start by commending the courage of the victims in this trial.

00:14There can be no doubt they have suffered as a result of Zoe's depraved actions.

00:18They have been extraordinarily brave.

00:21Those victims have always been at the very heart of our investigation.

00:24I hope that today's lengthy sentence will provide a small amount of comfort

00:29as they look to rebuild their lives.

00:32They can be reassured that Zoe will no longer be free to harm women

00:36or subject them to the most horrendous sexual abuse.

00:40Zoe is a vile and depraved individual who committed the most cowardly and wicked of crimes.

00:47The sheer scale of his offending, which spans two countries,

00:51makes him one of the most prolific predators we have ever seen.

00:56We continue to investigate his crimes,

00:58but have not yet identified all of his victims.

01:02As such, I am making a direct appeal today for anyone who has information

01:07or who thinks they are a victim.

01:11Please come forwards.

01:13You will be listened to and you will be supported.

01:16Finally, I want to take this chance to thank the team of MET officers and staff

01:22who worked tirelessly on this case.

01:25They were professional, determined and compassionate.

01:29And I am immensely proud of all of them.
