A gameplay presentation for the immersive climbing simulator Cairn aired during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase. Developers The Game Bakers dug into the intricate technicalities of scaling icy mountains.
Transcript
00:00Cairn is what we call a survival climber.
00:03Your goal is to climb a mountain and reach a summit no one has ever conquered.
00:08You can climb almost anywhere and the climbing mechanics are highly realistic.
00:13You'll need to carefully manage your balance and stamina.
00:16Make a mistake and you'll fall and get hurt.
00:20For the first time, we are also showing what it's like to climb at high altitudes.
00:24When you get up there, you'll face ice holes that require to use ice axes and spikes.
00:32But don't think you can just jam your tools into the ice.
00:36Ice climbing is precise.
00:39You'll need to aim for cracks and edges to get a solid grip.
00:44Cairn's realistic climbing system also supports mixed climbing.
00:49That means you can have one end on the rock and the other using an ice tool.
00:54It's up to you to read the rock face and choose the most strategic route to the top.
01:01Cairn is coming up on PlayStation 5 and Steam later this year.
01:05You can already give it a try in the demo available on PC and PS5.
