00:08Democracies are fragile. They fail when people stop believing in their common destiny.
00:14Why is this happening?
00:16There are many reasons for today's division. The one seldom mentioned is economic.
00:23The traditional route to wealth and success has been cut off for many Americans.
00:29Capitalism has become an insider's club. Giant multinational corporations under both parties
00:35are killing the American dream. This was supposed to be the land of opportunity. The middle class is
00:40shrinking and weakening economically. Where is the dignity in realizing that they're about a payment
00:47away from being evicted? And when interest rates were dropped to save Wall Street from crisis in 2008,
00:53we saw the greatest wealth transfer from the working class to the upper class in the history
00:58of mankind. Is that fair? People are not going to fight for American democracy if they believe
01:03that opportunity no longer comes to them from it. There's no question there'll be a day of reckoning
01:09and when it finally ends, it's going to be really, really bloody.
01:16Every day we hear we are one step closer to civil war.
01:19There will likely be an economic war between governors with tens of millions of jobs lost.
01:26Some chance we could have real economic collapse. When that happens, a lot of things can go wrong.
01:32America has a history of resilience. Our best days could still be ahead.
01:50So it is we the people ultimately that are going to have to rise up and say, wait a minute, this is our democracy.
01:59We can do better. Democracies last on average 250 years. In only two years,
02:07America will celebrate its 250th birthday.
02:12Will we make it to the party?
