What happens when a baby bear loses his mom too early? 🐻💔 You become the bear!

Watch as wildlife rescuers dress up in full bear suits — complete with scents of lions, tigers, and other wild animals — to raise this cub without human imprinting. Angela, one of the caretakers, shares how the team makes it feel as real as possible so this tiny bear can one day survive in the wild 🏞️🐾

At night, he cuddles up with his giant plush bear stuffies 🧸💤 — and during the day, he learns how to be brave, strong, and truly wild.

00:00We've limited him from seeing any humans, so if he's seeing us, we're in the bear suit.
00:05When I first started doing it, I'm kind of in that suit thinking, wow, this is really happening.
00:10I'm really trying to mask that humanoid figure and not appear like a human, really appear more like a wild animal.
00:16With the bear stuffies, it's something that is very big and fluffy and warm.
00:20So we would put heat warming discs near it so that if he did want to cuddle up like he would with mom or siblings, he could do that at night.
00:27We're trying to be as much of a surrogate mama during those first few weeks as possible.
00:33So there were some hikers that were in those father's national forests.
00:36They came upon this little bear cub that didn't appear to be with the mother.
00:41They contacted their local rangers who contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
00:46They waited about a day or two to see if mom would come back around, but unfortunately she never did.
00:51He was what we would consider pretty critical from the beginning just because he was so young.
00:55We wanted to ensure that he was going to start eating and gaining strength.
01:01We're not really there to try to have that engagement.
01:04We're more there for his support and his confidence building.
01:07You'll be working and then you look down the hallway and there's someone in the bear's suit.
01:10You're like, oh, that's right.
01:12I think it's kind of taken us all back at some point.
01:15As fun as it is to dress up as a bear and we love it.
01:18It's fully for his welfare and making sure he stays wild.
01:21We actually receive scents from lions, tigers and bears so that we can put that with the fur coats
01:28and really try to create that natural scent as possible.
01:33And the ultimate goal is always to release.
01:35So we would hope that his rehabilitation continues to go well and then he can go back out into the wild.
01:40Getting to care for an animal that's this young, this special in that way is an amazing thing
01:46that I think most of us have worked our whole lives to be able to do.
01:49I think everyone can agree that when you first see them when they're that little, they're so darn cute.
