00:00A few moments ago in Northampton Crown Court, Junior Awadia has been sentenced to life imprisonment
00:08for murdering Clinton Antwi. He will serve a minimum of 23 years in custody before being
00:14considered for release. On the evening of 11 December 2024, Clinton and Junior met to
00:22resolve a disagreement. The meeting took place at Flaxwell Court in Northampton and during
00:29a three week trial, the court have heard how a minor dispute between friends escalated
00:35over two days into a physical altercation. Junior Awadia had in his possession a large
00:44kitchen knife. He used this to stab his friend Clinton in the back twice. Clinton collapsed
00:51at the scene and died shortly later in hospital.
00:57Junior fled the scene in his car but was identified quickly and arrested from his home address.
01:03Following a search of Junior's address, the murder weapon was located. I'd like to thank
01:08all of the officers and staff across Northamptonshire Police and the East Midlands Special Operations
01:14Unit. Most importantly, I'd like to thank Clinton's family for their support and composure throughout
01:21the investigation and throughout the three week trial. This investigation demonstrates
01:28the harsh reality of what can happen if you choose to carry a knife. It does not give you
01:34added protection. Carrying a knife means that there is an increased chance that you will
01:39use it or it will be used against you. Junior Awadia chose to carry a knife to the scene and
01:48that is a decision that he will have to live with for the rest of his life.
