Transcript
00:00I'm Nigel Simpson, I'm Head of International Markets at Zurich.
00:03Jeff, 30 under 30, is perfect for us really.
00:05I'm Ailish Harris, I'm Chief Commercial Officer at Zurich.
00:09I was a 2023 Leadership Winner.
00:11Hi, I'm Georgia Wilson, I'm a Trainee Actuary at Zurich.
00:14I was a 2024 Trailblazer.
00:17Internally we have an awful lot of activity that goes on to try and develop young people.
00:2170% of all of our vacancies are filled internally,
00:25which means we have to create that talent pipeline and continual professional development.
00:30To push people along throughout the organisation.
00:32We're also very active externally, both with charities, volunteering.
00:38We give everybody three days volunteering, which they can do whatever they want with.
00:41We are doing a really big campaign to help get some summer interns into the office.
00:46It's all about trying to give people who live on island some experience.
00:49They come in, they work for Zurich for about 10 to 12 weeks in different areas of the business.
00:54We cover IT, we've covered legal in the past, covered business change, project management experience,
00:59risk and compliance, like quite literally all different areas of the business.
01:02And it's to help give people either finishing school or finishing university or in university
01:08a bit of experience for what working in the insurance industry can be.
01:11As somebody that decided not to go to university,
01:13I've massively benefited from working at an organisation like Zurich,
01:16where they do put talent development and people development kind of right in the core
01:20of everything that they look to do.
01:22And it's really nice to see that we are giving these experiences to people.
01:25I think as a school leaver myself, getting taken in by Zurich,
01:29they really looked to hire me based on my values and my ethic.
01:33That and the support that Zurich's given me within their student programme
01:36to get through my actuarial exams, that was invaluable.
01:39And I don't have any regrets not leaving the islands because I really have felt supported.
01:43I think it's odd because none of us have been to university.
01:46So maybe an odd group or a large financial services sector company
01:51with relatively senior, relatively high-talent individuals,
01:56none of which have gone the traditional university route.
01:58We try to get some good quality graduates in, push them along,
02:02but equally we do it from the other end as well
02:04and try to bring school leavers through, rotate them through our teams
02:07to give them practical experience on the way through.
