The iconic Japanese woodblock print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is among the works from Japan's Edo Period on display at the Chiayi branch of the National Palace Museum in southern Taiwan.

00:00Giving visitors a glimpse into Japan's past, this is the beauty of The Floating World in Edo
00:12exhibition at the National Palace Museum's branch in Jiayi, southern Taiwan. It features over 200
00:19artworks from the 16th to 18th century. They include folding screens, hand scrolls, and wood
00:26block prints, typical of what's called The Floating World, or Yukio-e style, evoking the urban
00:33life and culture of the time.
00:56Yukio-e works flourished during that period, demonstrating high levels of technical
01:03skill and creativity, and they even influenced Western music and arts.
