Wallabies great Joe Roff has been unveiled as the Brumbies' new chairman
Transcript
00:00What does it mean to you to become chairman of the new Brumbies board?
00:03As one of the original Brumbies, we often talk about legacy,
00:07but legacy is not what you leave behind, it's what you set in motion.
00:12And so for me to return to the momentum of the Brumbies at the moment
00:15on the back of so much hard work from so many good people,
00:21it's an incredible honour and responsibility and one that I'm looking forward to.
00:25What are you setting out to achieve for the club and rugby in the Canberra region
00:29as chairman?
00:30Having worked closely with Rugby Australia over the past two years
00:34and obviously being from Canberra, I want to ensure that we're working
00:38hand in glove in this new era with Rugby Australia and at the same time
00:43assure everyone in Canberra, our stakeholders, our sponsors,
00:47our community players, that the Brumbies are Canberra-owned,
00:52we're from Canberra, we're not going anywhere and this is our team here.
00:56And everyone understands that rationally, but I think in this new environment
01:00we just need to bed that down and I think that's one of the significant roles
01:06that I'll have in making sure that happens.
01:09How does it feel to be working with your old team mate Stephen Larkham again?
01:14Four semi-finals in a row and just on the cusp of something so very special
01:19with this group of talented players.
01:21I can't wait to be working with Steve again.
01:25When he withdrew from the expressing an interest in applying for the Wallabies job,
01:34he said something to me that stayed with me and that is that he has unfinished business
01:38here in Canberra.
01:39I want to be a part of what he's doing and how he's leading that high-performance environment
01:46and hope that I can support him in some way to get that next and that small step change
01:53that will lead to us bringing home the Super Rugby time.
01:56I was a young buck when Phil Thompson first started managing the Brumbies.
02:01It was 30 years ago.
02:03He, I guess, could be described as one of the great public servants of rugby.
02:07He's given his life to this game and to this club.
02:13I think what epitomises Tomo was his close friendship with the late, great Gary Quinliv and Quinzo
02:20because they represented the culture and the heart and soul of why this club feels like a family.
02:29And so for him to step down after so many years, we can only do so with the greatest of thanks.
02:37Let's try.
02:39Let's bounce it.
02:41Let's jung it.
02:42Let's worship it.
02:43Let's jump it.
02:44Let's
02:54let's see.
02:56Let's sing.
