00:00For decades, Diet Cherry Coke held a special place in the hearts of many, a refreshing staple in the U.S. beverage market.
00:08First launched in 1986, shortly after regular Cherry Coke in 1985, it enjoyed widespread popularity for over 30 years.
00:17However, between 2018 and 2020, it was quietly discontinued from retail stores, leaving a void for its dedicated fan base.
00:25This discontinuation coincided with the 2018 launch of Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, intended as a bolder taste experience.
00:33But that version also met its end in 2020, until now.
00:38The only way U.S. customers could get a cherry-flavored diet soda was through Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines.
00:45It's important to note that this retro-diet Cherry Coke is distinct from Coca-Cola Zero Cherry, as Coke Zero.
00:51And Diet Coke offered different taste profiles, despite both being sugar and calorie-free.
00:57Now, in a move sure to delight its loyal following, Coca-Cola has confirmed the return of retro-diet Cherry Coke this summer.
01:05This highly anticipated comeback follows months of speculation, fueled by social media accounts like Snackalator and Soto Seekers, which hinted at its re-release, complete with its original, classic packaging.
01:17The official word is out. The classic is indeed returning. Set for a mid-July launch, its beloved beverage will be available for a limited time, and exclusively at the Kroger family of stores.
01:29This includes a wide array of well-known chains, such as Baker's, City Market, Dillon's, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Kroger itself, Mariano's, Metro Market, Pick and Save, Ralph's, and Smith's Food and Drug.
01:43The retro appeal is paramount. As the drink will reappear in its original Letedies design, featuring red text and a cherry on a white background with thin diagonal stripes, this classic visual has ignited a wave of nostalgia, with fans expressing immense excitement and even petitioning for a permanent return, demonstrating the enduring legacy of this iconic drink.
02:05This return comes as Coca-Cola aims to accelerate new product development, a smart move to capitalize on consumer demand and nostalgia in a dynamic market.
