One of the doctors charged in connection with Matthew Perry's ketamine death is one step closer to doing hard time ... because he just copped to a slew of crimes.

00:00When they arrested and indicted the people involved in Matthew Perry's death, there were two doctors that were charged.

00:07One of them, Dr. Mark Chavez, had already struck a plea deal.

00:10Dr. Salvador Placentia has now found out his fate, and he's going to prison.

00:15Still unclear exactly how long, but he has struck a plea deal.

00:18He pled guilty, and I'm sure he's hoping for leniency.

00:21He could have been facing up to 40 years in prison.

00:26I've got to tell you, we covered this case really heavily and did a documentary on just the shocking overprescribing practices.

00:40I've got to say, Placentia had nowhere to go here.

00:44I mean, this was clear overprescribing.

00:47The text messages were just horrendous, talking about how much will this moron pay.

00:53And, you know, he had to do this.

00:57So, I never saw this case going to trial.

01:01And I'm surprised he had nowhere to go.

01:03I'm surprised he didn't actually plead in the first round of this.

01:06And, Charles, you had mentioned, you know, he could have faced up to 40, or could face up to 40 years in prison.

01:11But they are recommending a sentence of 15 to 21 months, which is drastically different from 40 years, obviously.

01:19So, if I were him, I would just go in there and get this done with.

01:22That's actually a great resolution for him.

01:25Because the judge could have thrown the book at him.

01:27Right.

01:28We should explain why the prosecutors would make that deal, right?

01:31Is that dragging out a case becomes very expensive for the state.

01:37And it's hard on the family.

01:40And he's going to get some punishment.

01:43And I guess that's the compromise they reach.
