00:00Kenyan police shot an apparent bystander at a close rent Tuesday during the latest protest over the killings of a blogger in custody earlier this month,
00:10sparking more fury among the public and demands for accountability.
00:14The demonstration over the death of blogger Alberto Jwang in police custody turned violent Tuesday,
00:20with the police in right gear facing protesters in downtown Nairobi, Kenya.
00:24Personally, I wish a lot of people, especially those who have been paid to disrupt this protest,
00:30to understand that we are fighting for justice and it affects every one of us, including them.
00:36At some point, it will be their turn for them to be attacked by the police and brutalized.
00:41And we are saying before that happens, let us demand that there is not just reforms in the police,
00:46let the entire institution be remade from the ground up.
00:49Demonstrators said goons sent by the government to disrupt the peaceful protests
00:54were collaborating with the police to unleash violence in the East African capital.
00:58Violent clashes between demonstrators armed with stones and counter-protesters on motorbikes,
01:03wielding sticks and whips culminated in various motorcycles being torched and people being injured.
01:09Some activists claim that the goons were paid by the government to disrupt their peaceful protests.
01:14What we find through a big challenge, we can see, there are fellow youths who have been given money
01:20to come and distract the demonstration we have today.
01:24But we are condemning that with a big order, with a high voice.
01:27So we are still calling the youths across the nation, let us come.
01:31Nobody will speak for us. When we are silent, we will keep on losing more life.
01:35Meanwhile, an investigation continues into the death of Ojuang,
01:38who was accused of deferming Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagarde, Kenya's Deputy Police Chief,
01:43who stepped aside Monday but failed to acknowledge he was the complainant.
