00:03Okay, enjoy the awards.
00:05Ready, three and three.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:09And today we're looking at the funniest moments from the Naked Gun trilogy.
00:13Since we're only focusing on the movies,
00:16we sadly have to exclude the original TV series, Police Squad.
00:21Tonight's episode, The Broken Promise.
00:26Number 10.
00:28Bribery.
00:28The Naked Gun from the Files of Police Squad.
00:32He was found by the night watchman.
00:34We better do some checking around.
00:35I'm gonna talk to the harbormaster.
00:37I'll walk around the dogs, take a snooze.
00:39Before even getting to the scene's funniest bit,
00:42the audience is already cracking up as Frank's reckless driving sends a fisherman into the water
00:47where a body outline floats.
00:50Looking for leads on Nordberg, Frank questions a peer employee.
00:53He tries refreshing the Dockman's hazy memory with a couple of Jacksons.
00:59You're familiar with that face?
01:01I don't know.
01:02My memory ain't so great.
01:03Oh, yeah?
01:05Maybe this will refresh your memory.
01:07I don't know.
01:07It's still kind of hazy.
01:08How about this?
01:09Yeah, I remember him.
01:10I used to see him around.
01:11Why do you want to know?
01:12We've seen this set up in other cop stories,
01:14although the money gets mixed up as the two go back and forth.
01:18Frank and the Dockman seemingly can't keep track of who's interrogating who,
01:22exchanging cash with every question and answer.
01:25You tried to push something on one of my boys, I swear it.
01:27So what are you going to do about it, copper?
01:29Why should I tell you?
01:30Maybe this will help.
01:32I still don't think I should tell you.
01:34Ironically, Frank walks away with an extra 20,
01:37while the Dockman is left with a lighter wallet.
01:40Yet, neither recognizes the miscalculation in this transaction.
01:44Blissfully ignorant of how bribery is supposed to work.
01:48You just bought me a 20?
01:49How about now?
01:50All right, I'm going down to Ludwig's office.
01:52I'll find out if you're telling the truth.
01:54Number 9.
01:56Crashing the Oscars
01:57Naked Gun 33 and a third
01:59The Final Insult
02:01Hey, Frank!
02:08The trilogy's grand finale takes Frank and Jane to the Academy Awards,
02:13which is sadly the closest this franchise came to a shiny gold man.
02:18We guess you could call this payback,
02:21as Frank makes a mockery of the classy affair.
02:24Ladies and gentlemen,
02:26it's my pleasure to present the...
02:27While searching for an envelope containing a bomb,
02:36Frank stumbles onto the stage.
02:38After botching a presentation with Raquel Welch,
02:41he throws a Pia Zadora performance off key.
02:44The titular final insult is saved for a showdown between Frank and the villainous Rocco.
02:59While Frank rescues Jane, Rocco's plan literally blows up in his face.
03:04As chaotic as things get, it wouldn't be the last time the Oscars had a fiasco with the best picture envelope.
03:11This arguably isn't the most violent Oscar ceremony either.
03:15And they told me I couldn't do drama.
03:17Number 8.
03:18Runaway Nordberg
03:19The Naked Gun 2 and a Half
03:21The Smell of Fear
03:23I'm out of something big.
03:25I'm gonna need you and Nordberg tomorrow.
03:27What's he doing in Detroit?
03:28After spending most of the first movie hospitalized,
03:32Detective Nordberg returned to duty in the sequel.
03:35That doesn't mean he's spared any pain.
03:38In what might be the character's funniest physical comedy bit,
03:42Nordberg trails a van.
03:43We mean that literally,
03:45as he's stuck under the vehicle,
03:47getting dragged along for the ride.
03:49Even after freeing himself,
03:51Nordberg's suffering is only starting.
03:53Forget it.
03:54He's real close now.
03:55He slides under Frank and Ed's car as they hit the gas,
04:05obliviously taking their colleague down an inconveniently cluttered road.
04:09Once they hit the brakes,
04:11Nordberg is sent under a bus,
04:13headed out of state.
04:14The kicker?
04:15The state is Detroit.
04:16It's surely the craziest thing
04:27that ever happened to O.J. Simpson
04:29on the open road
04:30that didn't involve a white Bronco.
04:33We'll send him playing for in a new pair of pants.
04:36Number 7.
04:37Frank Meets Jane,
04:38the naked gun from the files of Police Squad.
04:42She had a full set of curves
04:44and the kind of legs you'd like to suck on for a day.
04:48Much like how Leslie Nielsen came from a dramatic background,
04:52Priscilla Presley might have seemed like an unusual candidate
04:55for a slapstick-heavy spoof.
04:58Elvis' former wife proved to be a natural comedic talent, though.
05:02Ah!
05:02Just as Nielsen's Frank says everything with a straight face,
05:11Presley remains in character
05:13even as the alluring Jane trips down a flight of stairs
05:16and bumps into a wall.
05:19Yep.
05:21This was starting to get interesting.
05:23While Frank is drawn to Jane's hair, figure,
05:26and suckable legs,
05:28he's most impressed with her beaver.
05:30Before you try demonizing us, YouTube,
05:33we're talking about a stuffed animal.
05:35Nice beaver.
05:38I just had it stuffed.
05:40Let me help you with that.
05:41The innuendos don't end there,
05:44as Frank tells Jane about his big gun.
05:47It's not what you think.
05:48Or maybe it is.
05:50I've heard police work is dangerous.
05:53It is. That's why I carry a big gun.
05:56Aren't you afraid it might go off accidentally?
05:58I used to have that problem.
06:01What did you do about it?
06:03I just think about baseball.
06:05Number 6.
06:06Roof Shootout.
06:08The Naked Gun 2 1⁄2.
06:09The Smell of Fear.
06:11Frank, over there!
06:16Take cover!
06:17With Jane taken hostage,
06:19Frank, Ed, and Nordberg find themselves surrounded by gunfire.
06:23At times, the shootout might look like something from a legitimate crime drama.
06:27Upon closer inspection, you'll notice just how ludicrous this shootout is.
06:33Virtually everyone has terrible aim, unable to shoot one another, even at point-blank range.
06:45They'd be better off throwing their guns at each other, which Frank eventually does, and it's surprisingly effective.
06:51Meanwhile, the assailants fail to acknowledge Nordberg in the background, assembling a weapon that grows more and more convoluted.
06:59We can't argue with the results.
07:02How did Nordberg go from a basic firearm to a tank?
07:06For that matter, where did all the pieces come from?
07:09In any case, this scene deserves a thumbs up.
07:12Number 5.
07:14Safe Sex.
07:15The Naked Gun, from the files of Police Squad.
07:19You said we should have dinner sometime.
07:22Tonight became...
07:23sometime.
07:25Frank is reluctant to fall in love again after losing his girl in a tragic blimp accident.
07:31Yet, he can't deny his feelings for Jane, letting down his guard.
07:35Although Frank opens his heart to Jane, he still believes in using protection.
07:40The two strip down, with Frank effectively yanking his wardrobe right off.
07:45I want you to know it.
07:47Practice safe sex.
07:49So do I.
07:51As quickly as the two lovers tear away their clothes, they both find themselves completely
07:56engulfed in extra, extra large rubbers.
07:59Although director David Zucker was open to using stunt doubles, Presley agreed to suit up,
08:05despite her claustrophobia.
08:06Zucker says that Nielsen enjoyed being in a giant condom.
08:10Jerry Zucker said in the same interview, he actually had his own that he brought.
08:15We think he was joking, but we wouldn't put it past Nielsen.
08:19Number 4.
08:31Driving Lesson.
08:32The Naked Gun from the Files of Police Squad.
08:36Police Squad!
08:37Come on that black car!
08:38Some might know John Houseman for his Oscar-winning performance in 1973's The Paper Chase.
08:45Naked Gun fans will recognize Houseman from another chase, in what would ultimately be
08:51a posthumous performance.
08:52The late British actor played a driving instructor who crosses paths with Frank Drebin.
08:58When Frank tells student driver Stephanie to pursue a criminal, the instructor sees a teachable
09:03moment.
09:04Even as glass shatters everywhere and a truck nearly crashes into them, the teacher remains
09:09calm.
09:10Turn right!
09:10Follow him to the right!
09:11It's okay.
09:13Now normally you would not be going 65 down the wrong way of a one-way street.
09:18That said, he isn't above instructing Stephanie to flip the bird.
09:22Gently extend your arm, extend your middle finger, very good, well done.
09:35Stephanie proves herself to be a real firecracker behind the wheel.
09:39Likewise, the assailant's wild ride builds to a firework store where we get possibly the
09:44funniest variation ever on the nothing to see here gag.
09:48All right, move on!
09:50Nothing to see here!
09:52Please, pitch birds!
09:54Nothing to see here!
09:56Please!
09:58Number 3.
09:59Our Babies!
10:01Naked Gun, 33 and a Third, The Final Insult.
10:12The baby carriage on the steps trope traces back to 1925's Battleship Potemkin.
10:17Modern audiences are more inclined to associate this imagery with two other movies, The Untouchables
10:25and Naked Gun, 33 and a Third.
10:27Brian De Palma's influence is evident here.
10:30Staking out a train station, Frank reads a newspaper with a stupidly clever headline.
10:41Unfortunately, several mothers choose now to take their babies for a stroll.
10:46Several strollers, a lawnmower, and multiple world leaders get caught in the middle of
10:51a shootout, with Frank taking out disgruntled postal workers and Nordberg catching babies
10:57like some sort of football star.
11:00This opening is a nightmare.
11:02No, it's actually just a nightmare, which we should have guessed from that dyslexia joke.
11:19You can't read in a dream, after all.
11:22Number 2.
11:23Mike Malfunction, The Naked Gun from The Files, a police squad.
11:27Queen Elizabeth has included the city of Los Angeles as one of the three cities she will
11:34visit during her American tour.
11:37With Queen Elizabeth visiting the states, police squad is tasked with protecting her.
11:43Frank doesn't inspire more confidence at a press conference where he has a tall glass
11:47of water before speaking.
11:49After Frank questions the very idea of having a monarch, it seems things can't possibly get
11:55more awkward.
11:56For no matter how silly the idea of having a queen might be to us, as Americans, we must
12:01be gracious and considerate hosts.
12:05That is, until Frank visits the little boy's room with his mic still on.
12:10When Frank unzips his pants and lets loose, it doesn't just sound like someone going to
12:15the bathroom.
12:16It's as if the floodgates are being opened.
12:18Especially if it will be the queen's public appearances.
12:30It doesn't help that Frank likes to sing as he takes a dinghy while families watch at home.
12:35The mayor attempts to move forward, but eventually concedes that this conference is already in
12:41the toilet.
12:48Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
12:52Frank the Tank, the naked gun two-and-a-half, the smell of fear, turning a hostage situation
12:58into a zoo.
12:59Now put your hands on top of your head and come out, we've got you in the round now.
13:04Hey!
13:05Hey!
13:06Hey!
13:07Frank!
13:08Frank!
13:09What are you doing?
13:10Where are you going, Frank?
13:11Frank!
13:12Shower Attack, the naked gun two-and-a-half, the smell of fear, he might have succeeded if
13:25he couldn't resist a duet.
13:30Can it be that it was all so simple then?
13:34Or has time rewritten it?
13:42Ambushing Dictators, the naked gun from the files of Police Squad.
13:47Police Squad has no jurisdiction.
13:50Of weak people, of people ripe for destruction, cowards no longer willing to fight.
13:59Lobster, the naked gun two-and-a-half, the smell of fear.
14:13It's not Frank's fault they served the noisiest and messiest dish.
14:17Well, we're all well aware of Dr. Meinheimer's reputation, so I think that perhaps he's best
14:22qualified to explain his research methods.
14:29Wacky Wheels, the naked gun two-and-a-half, the smell of fear.
14:35Is this a parody of E.T. or Mac and Me?
14:38Let's ask Paul Rudd.
14:43He certainly seems to get around marvelously.
15:06Number 1 Baseball Hijinx, the naked gun from the files of Police Squad.
15:22The first film's climax takes place at Anaheim Stadium, where we're treated to one hilarious
15:27set piece after another.
15:29Disguised as opera singer Enrico Palazzo, Frank's cover is quickly blown.
15:34Not wanting to seem unpatriotic, the police wait until Frank is done butchering the National
15:39Anthem before continuing their pursuit.
15:42Frank returns to the field as an umpire, getting a little too close for comfort.
15:47A little tighten the crotch.
15:50Swing.
15:51All right.
15:52All set.
15:54Okay, play ball!
15:57Nobody is safe in this baseball game, least of all the villainous Vincent Ludwig.
16:02Who plummets to his doom.
16:04If the fall didn't kill him, the vehicles and the marching man definitely did.
16:09It happens more than you think.
16:24Just ask Ed.
16:25My father went the same way.
16:28We'd say this is overkill, but we'd still rather be Ludwig than Nordberg, whose troubles
16:34aren't about to get better.
16:35Nordberg!
16:36That's wonderful!
16:37Whoa!
16:38Come, Frank.
16:39Everyone should have a friend like me.
16:41Oh!
16:42What's your favorite Naked Gun moment?
16:48Let us know in the comments.
16:49All right.
16:50Move on.
16:51Nothing to see here.
16:52Please disperse.
16:53Nothing to see here.
16:54Please disperse.
16:55Nothing to see here.
16:57Please.
16:58We're all right!
16:59Now listen, ol' to work, it's no big thing.
17:01Very perfect poquito kalian to see here, please.
