Manchester United have held initial talks to gauge the possibility of a summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

United have prioritised the addition of a striker this summer and have gone back to the drawing board after they missed out on a move for preferred target Liam Delap. They also held an interest in Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres but view a move as unlikely due to the fact he would rather join Arsenal instead.

Ekitike is viewed as another appealing option for the striker role at Old Trafford, though it is understood Chelsea and Liverpool both also have an interest in his signature. United could have a relatively free run at the 22-year-old though, given Chelsea have already signed Delap, Liverpool are set to spend big on Florian Wirtz, while Arsenal are more likely to sign either Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

00:00Manchester United have held initial talks to gauge a summer move for Frankfurt striker Hugo Eketike.
00:07United are back to the drawing board as they search for a striker this summer, having missed out on preferred target Liam De Lapp.
00:15Ruben Amarim, of course, has prioritised the addition of a proven goalscorer to his United side.
00:20De Lapp was viewed as the best bang for buck in the summer transfer window.
00:24He's, of course, signed for Chelsea after they activated his £30m release clause.
00:30And it's also understood that fellow target, Viktor Jokrez, would prefer a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
00:37Juventus is another team who are keeping eyes on the Sweden international just to see what happens with regards to him.
00:43So United are looking at all different options available to them.
00:47Eketike is another player who has genuine appeal in the summer transfer window.
00:52The issue there is that United aren't the only team interested in a move.
00:57Napoli, also credited with interest, as are Liverpool.
01:01And they could make a move for Eketike if and when they sell Darwin Nunes in the summer transfer window.
01:09So United would not only have to convince Eketike to move to Old Trafford rather than some more appealing options this summer,
01:15they'd also have to agree a fee with Frankfurt.
01:17That could be very difficult.
01:19Initial reports suggest they could ask for as much as €100m for him this summer.
01:25That's about £84m.
01:27But it could be lowered.
01:30Frankfurt want at least as much as they sold Omar Marmoush to Man City for in the January window.
01:35That was £59m.
01:36So you can put Eketike firmly in that bracket of between £60m to £85m this summer.
01:44Frankfurt understood to be quite flexible with how they received those funds.
01:48So it could be staggered payments, instalments, as we saw with United's move for Matthias Cunha.
01:53United, of course, signed Cunha last week.
01:55From Wolves, a £62.5m deal.
01:57But that will be paid in three equal chunks of just over £20m over three separate summer windows.
02:03It means a move for Eketike would have to be similar, you'd expect, for Manchester United.
02:08They could agree somewhere, like we said, between £60m to £85m.
02:12And then they could stagger it over three, four, maybe even five summers if all goes to plan.
02:16But at this moment in time, it's still hard to pinpoint one striker who's going to be the option for United this summer.
02:23They are keeping their options open, exploring every different avenue available to them.
02:28Like we said, the lap was the preferred target.
02:30Jokka has seen more as a dream and maybe quite unrealistic,
02:34given that he has interest in Juventus and Arsenal this summer as well.
02:39Eketike then, another option.
02:41United, also aware of the availability of Gonzalo Ramos at PSG.
02:46Dusan Vlahavic at Juventus.
02:50And also Moise Keane at Fiorentina.
02:52So, watch this space.
02:54United do want to add a striker.
02:55They've already secured Cunha.
02:57They're in talks over a potential second bid for Brown and Buemo.
03:01United still considered favourites to sign him ahead of Tottenham.
03:04And then a striker will be next on their list.
03:07Who that is, it remains to be seen.
03:09But Hugo Eketike is the latest player to appeal to Manchester United.
