00:00Please welcome yang amat berhormat, Datuk Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
00:06Assalamualaikum.
00:09Anyway, according to the United Nations World Population Prospects Database,
00:16Malaysia had only about 10 Sederians in early 70s.
00:24Today, we not only have one.
00:27You only know one, but actually there are already 1,000.
00:33Transizuki should line them up so that people feel they have a choice.
00:39And it's more than likely that the number will continue to grow.
00:43Now the real question now is not whether we are ageing, but whether we are adapting.
00:50Public policy must take heed.
00:55The longevity is a transformation of society, not just a trend.
01:01We must ask, are our institutions, our policies, our thinking prepared for this shift?
01:10Now the global longevity economy is projected to exceed by $65 trillion by 2030,
01:19according to the global longevity economy outlook report.
01:23It's interesting.
01:24Things have changed.
01:27In the years when I was then the finance minister, nobody talks about longevity report.
01:36Now we have an economic outlook and longevity report internationally.
01:42Now the average Malaysian for today now can expect to leave up to 76, but sounds well.
01:54But according to the recent survey and study, only 67 years good health and after that there will be problems.
02:04That means nine years of poor health, disability or a reduced quality of life.
02:22Now, regrettably, this gap has not improved over the past two decades.
02:30In fact, it has widened from 8.6 years in 2000.
02:36This means that living longer does not necessarily guarantee that we are living better.
02:44Well, here I am not suggesting that better means in terms of physical health or living conditions,
02:52but also the quality of life and ethically, morally responsible.
02:59This is a wake-up call to make us place a heavy emphasis on investing in our health,
03:13particularly in preventive care, public health education and community-based support systems.
03:22We must shift from a system that treats diseases to one that promotes lifelong wellness.
03:29To be continued...
