00:00I bought my dream home in a peaceful, gated community.

00:05Quiet neighbors, beautiful lawns, and everything looked perfect, until I met the HOA.

00:12It started small.

00:14A $50 fine for having my trash can visible for 10 minutes too long.

00:20Then a $200 fine because my grass was one inch too high.

00:26I laughed it off.

00:28But then came the certified letter.

00:32You owe $4,230 in unpaid HOA fines.

00:39Pay or face foreclosure.

00:41I was shocked.

00:43I never agreed to most of these rules.

00:47I asked for proof, they refused.

00:50They were using selective enforcement, targeting new homeowners who didn't attend meetings or challenge them,

00:57and yes, I missed the last two meetings, because I was in the hospital with my mom.

01:06That didn't matter to them.

01:09They posted a foreclosure notice on my door.

01:12I had two choices, lose everything, or fight back.

01:20I started recording everything.

01:22I found three other homeowners who'd been hit the same way.

01:31I also went online and found evidence of fraud and favoritism, HOA board members waiving fines for friends but fining others like me.

01:41I filed complaints with the state HOA board, consumer protection, and even contacted a local news station.

01:52The HOA president was removed.

01:55The treasurer was charged with embezzlement.

01:59All fines were erased, and the foreclosure canceled.

02:02The HOA had to pay $320,000 in damages to affected homeowners.

02:11Now?

02:12I'm part of the HOA.

02:15We hold open meetings, record every vote, and fines can't be issued without proof.

02:22And me?

02:24I kept my house, and broke their system from the inside.
