Transcript
00:00Today I'm here with Ian Avery who is the president of the Devon Association of Bellringers and we're at St Peter's Church at Zea Monocorum.
00:13So nice to meet you. So what's happening today? Tell everybody what's going on.
00:19Well this is a really special day for the Devon Association. It's our centenary year and why we're here at Zea Monocorum is because this is where it all kicked off in 1925 and the day has been rather special with extra bits.
00:40This is an annual competition but we've tried to make it a bit special today because of the centenary and the day kicked off at one o'clock with a re-enactment if you like of the first competition when North Thornton won the competition and ringers from North Thornton the day kicked off the proceedings by ringing the first feeling.
01:05That wasn't part of the competition but it seemed a very fitting thing for them to do to kick off the day having done it 100 years ago.
01:16Sadly none of the same ringers were able to take part but there we are.
01:22And then it's more or less the style of our annual competition. The judges have appealed prior to the service. We then had a service at two o'clock with ringers in and rather special design of Order of Services Day.
01:45And then the draw takes place when the judges have gone off into their little hiding holes somewhere so that they don't hear when and who is ringing.
01:58And today we're about halfway through now. This is team number six. And after this we're about to break for what I've been promised is a very nice, nice and important team.
02:11So we're all looking forward to that. And then the second half will kick off after the team. And then while the judges are being, totting up their scores if you like, we're having a special tree planted as a commemoration, a celebration I should say, of the hundred years of the Denver situation.
02:37Which is taking place somewhere behind me on the other side of the church I think. And then after that the judges will come in and give us their results and hopefully everybody will go home having spent a happy centenary celebration day.
02:58Fantastic. Well, congratulations. A hundred years of Devon Association of Berlin. It's a really, really special day. So well done on that. Thank you so much.
