In House floor remarks last week, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) supported a bill to block noncitizen voting in elections in Washington, D.C.

00:00Mr. Speaker, I yield two minutes to the gentleman from Texas, Mr. Gill.
00:05The gentleman from Texas is recognized for two minutes.
00:07Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:09Mr. Speaker, I rise in opposition to Democrats trying to give voting rights to illegal aliens.
00:18Mr. Speaker, once again, Democrats are taking the 20% side on another 80-20 issue.
00:25The American people do not want illegal aliens voting.
00:28They shouldn't be here to begin with.
00:31They have no claim on our resources, and they certainly should not be influencing our political
00:37system in any respect.
00:40Mr. Speaker, every single one of them needs to be deported, and thankfully, we have a
00:46president who is actually doing that.
00:50Mr. Speaker, for so long, Democrats have called conservatives conspiracy theorists.
00:57They've splandered us.
00:58For saying that the Democrat playbook, which they themselves have articulated, is to open
01:05up our borders to ultimately provide amnesty, a path to citizenship, and voting rights to
01:11illegal aliens.
01:13And, Mr. Speaker, they are doing that right now.
01:16That's exactly what they're doing, and they're fighting for it.
01:19Allowing illegal aliens to vote is not only grotesquely unjust, but it waters down the meaning of citizenship
01:30for American citizens who are here.
01:33Mr. Speaker, our government should represent our people, American citizens.
01:39Illegal aliens have no right to vote.
01:42They shouldn't be voting.
01:46And they need to be deported.
01:48With that said, I yield back.
01:51Mr. Speaker, the gentleman from Porter, the gentleman from Porter.
01:54I think I yield myself as much time as I may consume.
01:57You're recognized.
01:57Well, you know, once again, my Republican colleagues want to deflect on this issue, focus in on
02:05undocumented immigrants.
02:06Undocumented immigrants are unlikely to vote in local D.C. elections.
02:11Again, why?
02:12Because the D.C. voter roll is public record.
02:15Undocumented immigrants not going to want to identify themselves, including their address,
02:20where they live, non-citizen voting.
02:23Again, this consists of a lot of jurisdictions across the entire country.
02:28We talked about 20 municipalities.
02:30Do this to allow universal adult suffrage, the ability for people to take part in local elections.
02:38The other thing, real quick, that one of my Republican colleagues brought up is the purpose
02:42of this bill is, quote, you know, we want to stop the diluting, diluting the voices of American
02:48citizens.
02:48Diluting the voices of American citizens.
02:51What's really diluting the voices of American citizens are voter suppression laws, like we
02:56see in the South, like we see in Florida, where I'm from.
02:59Poll taxes, voter roll purges, voter intimidation.
03:03That is what's diluting the voices of American citizens.
03:05I haven't heard a single Republican in this debate talk about ensuring that citizens that
03:10live in D.C. can have full representation in Congress.
03:13Where's that?
03:15I bring it up again.
03:16Every issue, Republicans want to talk about protecting us by taking away stuff from other
03:22people and never want to talk about giving citizens what we deserve.
03:27And the citizens of D.C. deserve to have full representation in the United States Congress.
03:32I reserve.
