00:00:30Hi, Mom.
00:01:00Transcription by CastingWords
00:01:30Hey, how's it going?
00:01:35Good, thanks.
00:01:36See you.
00:01:37Tom.
00:01:4086, 88, 96, 97, 94, 96, 98, 1!
00:01:50Okay, put your dust back.
00:01:58Put your dust back.
00:02:02It's nicer.
00:02:04Hi.
00:02:05We usually take recess outside.
00:02:08Right.
00:02:08See, it's math.
00:02:11I found this idea on the internet that you, you, you, uh, multiplications, you drill the ball,
00:02:17you throw it back and forth, so.
00:02:19Ah, good, good.
00:02:20It's just, it's a little noisy, you know, for the other classes without balls.
00:02:24Oh, I understand.
00:02:26Yeah, um, we'll, we'll try to keep it down.
00:02:28By the way, it looks interesting.
00:02:31Do you mind if I come by the next time you're doing the multiplication tables?
00:02:34Well, I never thought I'd hear myself say that.
00:02:36But, yeah, I would.
00:02:37Yeah, absolutely.
00:02:39Sounds great.
00:02:40Okay, who wants to be the octopus?
00:02:45Yeah!
00:02:47I mean, you'd think that they'd be interested in something new to get so bent out of shape
00:02:51by a little racket.
00:02:53Well, our kids wanted to be in your class.
00:02:56You come in here all excited and bushy-tailed a year out of school.
00:03:00You may be ready to change the world, but to most people, different is a threat.
00:03:04Yeah, but you're a great teacher.
00:03:06How can you be so cynical?
00:03:07I save my enthusiasm for battles I can win.
00:03:12Lorraine, hi.
00:03:13How are you?
00:03:14Great.
00:03:15Couldn't be better.
00:03:15You?
00:03:16Well, I got yelled at today because I was teaching math in this new way and...
00:03:19What, are you kidding me?
00:03:20I break up with the guy I'm supposed to marry, and you're the one having a tough day.
00:03:23What happened?
00:03:24I thought you guys were going to get married this summer.
00:03:26Oh, well, the bride's always the last to know.
00:03:29Last week's taploid, you know what I mean?
00:03:31Excuse me.
00:03:34Lorraine!
00:03:37Yeah, yeah, I know.
00:03:39Look, we're going on our annual trip.
00:03:42You, me, and Steph.
00:03:44Only, we're not going in the summer, and we're going someplace fun.
00:03:47Spring break.
00:03:48A place called Midner's Cove or something.
00:03:50Somewhere near San Diego.
00:03:52Get your life in order.
00:03:53Wait, wait, wait, hold on.
00:03:54Our yearly trip now?
00:03:56No.
00:03:57Hi, hi.
00:03:58That's Inuit.
00:03:59In fact, it was her idea.
00:04:00Find me another fiancé.
00:04:02Hmm, at least for the week.
00:04:03David and I haven't seen much of each other this semester, and we were going to go on this camping trip.
00:04:08What don't you understand about the beach?
00:04:09You may not believe this, but I actually want to go camping with David.
00:04:13Oh, you're farther gone than I thought.
00:04:15I'll tell you what.
00:04:15I'm going home tomorrow.
00:04:17I'll see him, and I'll ask him.
00:04:19Ask him?
00:04:20That's possibly step 40 in.
00:04:22Let me tell you, you are in serious jeopardy.
00:04:24You have to come.
00:04:42Now that Laurie's being dumped, she's going to be a nutcase.
00:04:45I don't know, Steph.
00:04:47You know, I've just been feeling a little weird.
00:04:50A little unsettled lately.
00:04:51It's our trip.
00:04:53Our little tradition.
00:04:55I know spring break isn't quite our thing.
00:04:58So what if you and Laurie are working?
00:05:00I'm still in school, so we qualify to go somewhere and act like idiots.
00:05:03Well, you know what?
00:05:04Sometimes I wish I were still in school.
00:05:06You are, just with a bunch of seven-year-olds.
00:05:08We were together all those years in college, and we didn't have to worry about real life.
00:05:12We're still friends.
00:05:13It's not as though I'm moving to China.
00:05:16At least not yet.
00:05:17Although, maybe after spring break.
00:05:20But see, that's what I mean.
00:05:22You're going to China, and I'm here with a third grade and a bitchy principal.
00:05:26You are so nuts.
00:05:27You know, I don't know who's worse.
00:05:29You're a Laurie.
00:05:30I mean, here you are with a career that's actually working, about to be married to this great guy.
00:05:36Have those 1.8 fabulous children.
00:05:38Well, I have to thrash my way through the academic jungle.
00:05:41Yeah, but you're going to China.
00:05:42Come on.
00:05:43You have to come.
00:05:44It'll be great.
00:05:45You and David can spend your whole life going camping.
00:05:50Hey, Emma.
00:05:51What are you doing home?
00:05:52Checking to see who's leading in the street.
00:05:56That doesn't take much.
00:05:56Hey, guys.
00:05:57Hey.
00:05:58Where is that bad boy?
00:05:59Hey, Emma.
00:06:00He's working out, I think.
00:06:01Okay, thank you.
00:06:02Okay, jigs up.
00:06:03Hide the girls.
00:06:04Hey, Emma.
00:06:05Hey, honey.
00:06:06Come and spot me.
00:06:07Okay.
00:06:08What the hell are you doing here?
00:06:10What the hell are you doing here?
00:06:11No, it's great.
00:06:12I didn't spot me.
00:06:13What are you doing here?
00:06:15What are you doing here?
00:06:16Mmm.
00:06:17Mmm.
00:06:18Mmm.
00:06:19Mmm.
00:06:20Mmm.
00:06:20Ah.
00:06:21Mmm.
00:06:23Mmm.
00:06:23I'm away.
00:06:25Mmm.
00:06:26Mmm.
00:06:28Ah, mmm.
00:06:29Oh, my goodness.
00:06:29Kill me.
00:06:29Really?
00:06:30Jigs up, hide the girls.
00:06:30Hey, Emma.
00:06:31Okay.
00:06:31Hey, honey.
00:06:31Come and spot me.
00:06:32Okay.
00:06:33What the hell are you doing here?
00:06:33Greetings.
00:06:34Spot me, what are you doing here?
00:06:43My, my, my, my, my.
00:06:43Ah, you are never getting up.
00:07:00I think I'll make the rolls here.
00:07:04Yeah.
00:07:05Yeah.
00:07:06I think so.
00:07:07Yeah?
00:07:08Yeah.
00:07:09God, when are you gonna get a decent bed?
00:07:16When there's more call for it.
00:07:18We could probably figure out something to do about it, though.
00:07:21Yeah, we could.
00:07:22But probably not this weekend.
00:07:24Why not?
00:07:25You should live dangerously.
00:07:27You better watch out.
00:07:28One of these days, you're gonna get stuck.
00:07:35Let's go.
00:07:36I've got more important things to do.
00:07:39Hey, I didn't want to tell you over the phone, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to do this camping trip.
00:07:56I have to set my advanced EMT course.
00:07:58It's the only time I can do it till next year.
00:08:00You bum!
00:08:01I'm sorry.
00:08:02Do you know that I just turned on a spring break trip with Steph and Lorraine to go camping with you, and now here you are dumping me?
00:08:07Well, if I had my way, then we'd be so bored of being together all the time, and you'd be happy to have a break.
00:08:15You think that?
00:08:17What, that we should be together?
00:08:19No, that we'd be bored.
00:08:21Well, it looks innocent enough, but all that sun makes people a little crazy. You're better off where it's cooler.
00:08:31How do you know, Dad?
00:08:32I was in the Navy, remember?
00:08:34Well, I'll stay away from anybody who's in a uniform.
00:08:36Except for maybe a fireman.
00:08:38Dad's just worried once anybody leaves this suffocating town, they're gonna go crazy, or never come back.
00:08:43Yeah, Dad.
00:08:44Maybe we should find out what really went on out there.
00:08:47That was before I met your mother.
00:08:49Yeah, yeah, we've heard that before.
00:08:51Alright, I better go.
00:08:53They'll forgive me anything if it involves them, but only up to a point.
00:08:56I'll see you out.
00:08:57What is this, an empty chair?
00:08:59See you around the floor.
00:09:02Play hooky.
00:09:03Oh, you want me to lug hose the rest of my life, is that it?
00:09:06You're blowing my excuse not to go with the girls.
00:09:08Well, you should go. It'll be fun, right?
00:09:10Maybe. You have duty tonight?
00:09:13Yeah, especially after this afternoon.
00:09:16Bye, baby.
00:09:20I'll miss you.
00:09:21I'll bring you back a bronze Scottish.
00:09:51I'll bring you back a little bit.
00:09:52My mind is twisted.
00:09:53Trying to get to the party early.
00:09:54Cause I know we've been missed it.
00:09:55It's half past three.
00:09:56I know it's too early.
00:09:57But my homie's hanging out the window.
00:09:59How I never party.
00:10:00So I pull up to the curb and let the air out.
00:10:02Drop it to the ground.
00:10:03But the sound's time to show up.
00:10:04I pop the trunk and let the gun burn on you.
00:10:06Bump it so loud that your party's at it's all yours.
00:10:10Heaven.
00:10:11That's it?
00:10:12We've died and gone to heaven.
00:10:13Wow, you feel that sun?
00:10:15I have been cold for five months.
00:10:17Alright.
00:10:18Well, looks like you get warmed up here.
00:10:20I'm never leaving.
00:10:22Midner's Cove party girls?
00:10:24That's us.
00:10:25Hey boy, have you come to the right place?
00:10:27How'd you girls get so smart you picked Midner's Cove?
00:10:30Look at that beach.
00:10:31And hey, we got a pool and we got a stage.
00:10:34You girls were born for that stage.
00:10:36We got a hypnotist, lets you do what you always wanted.
00:10:39Around here, I'm your man.
00:10:41Whatever you need, whatever you want, I'm your man.
00:10:44Hey, you like a different look?
00:10:46Just around the point, we got a different beach.
00:10:48Big waves, bars.
00:10:50Personally, I never leave right here.
00:10:52What do you got in these bags?
00:10:53Just bikinis?
00:10:54Here, give me that.
00:10:55Whew.
00:10:56All you guys are hot.
00:10:57We got lots of guys.
00:10:58Girls too, if that's your thing.
00:11:00Hey, you here to hook up?
00:11:02Cause I'm a connected and connecting, you know what I mean?
00:11:05Aren't you still in school?
00:11:06Like, high school?
00:11:08Yeah, well we mature a little faster out here.
00:11:11Oh, you got an older brother?
00:11:13I am my older brother.
00:11:15Oh, okay.
00:11:16Uh huh.
00:11:17Uh huh.
00:11:18Uh huh.
00:11:19Uh huh.
00:11:20Crack.

00:11:22Crack.
00:11:23Crack.
00:11:24Uh huh.
00:11:25Crack.
00:11:26Crack.

00:11:28Crack.
00:11:29Crack.
00:11:30Crack.
00:11:31Uh huh.
00:11:32So many hot boys up in here.
00:11:35So many girls in their underwear.
00:11:37Pull up some other...
00:11:38Look at them.
00:11:39Remember when we were like this?
00:11:42I was never like this.
00:11:44I don't remember us ever being like this even when we were kids.
00:11:48All they have is time.
00:11:51There's always gonna be, remember?
00:11:53We used to think, there's always gonna be a guy, a career, and everything would just come naturally cause that's what happens.
00:12:02There was plenty of time.
00:12:05Of course we may never have met the guy or had the job, but we were gonna have it all.
00:12:11Get married.
00:12:12Have kids.
00:12:14Guaranteed.
00:12:15We were gonna be happy cause we deserved it.
00:12:18Guaranteed.
00:12:20Well, time sure is a way of sneaking up on you.
00:12:24Nobody tells you it's a crapshoot where most people come off with snake eyes.
00:12:27I don't feel that way.
00:12:29Yeah you do.
00:12:30You do feel that way.
00:12:32You just haven't faced it yet.
00:12:33Otherwise you would have married David long ago.
00:12:36I mean what are you waiting for?
00:12:38David isn't turning into somebody else anytime soon.
00:12:40I mean you walk into that firehouse, you know, sure as hell what you're getting.
00:12:43Knock it off, Laurie.
00:12:45I need to, I need to do something.
00:12:48Different.
00:12:50Have fun.
00:12:52You know?
00:12:53I mean life is, who knows what the hell life is about.
00:13:00I just found that out the hard way.
00:13:03I need to be somebody who didn't just let it all get away.
00:13:10What I need is to hook up.
00:13:16Fast.
00:13:17Fast.
00:13:18Fast.
00:13:19Slow or fast.
00:13:20Right up on the dance floor.
00:13:21Give me some fancy.
00:13:22I'll walk up a plane.
00:13:23And you can find me.
00:13:24Right up on the dance floor.
00:13:25Right up on the dance floor.
00:13:26Right up on the dance floor.
00:13:27Right up on the dance floor.
00:13:28She is gonna get in a lot of trouble.
00:13:32I know.
00:13:33I know.
00:13:34What?
00:13:35Look at her.
00:13:37I think we should have fun.
00:13:38Let's go, let's go.
00:13:41Oh my god.
00:13:42Oh my god.
00:13:43Oh my god.
00:13:45Oh my god.
00:13:46Oh my god.
00:13:48Oh my god.
00:13:50Oh my god.
00:13:55Oh my god.
00:14:00Girl, girls, where do you think you're going?
00:14:05Three most beautiful girls here and you're walking away?
00:14:08Did we do something wrong here?
00:14:10Just a little reality break.
00:14:13Reality?
00:14:14What is that?
00:14:15This is spring break.
00:14:16You gotta go a little wild.
00:14:17Otherwise, what's the point?
00:14:19Are you guys watching the wet t-shirt contest?
00:14:21You guys have to do it.
00:14:22No.
00:14:23You know what you're missing?
00:14:24You know how it feels to have a hundred crazy guys wanting to be with you?
00:14:27Well, I've already got someone wanting to be with me.
00:14:29But that's one pathetic guy.
00:14:31I'm talking about a hundred crazy guys.
00:14:34Do you have any idea?
00:14:36And another thing.
00:14:37You know, like sexual charades race.
00:14:39You know, like that movie when Harry met Sally.
00:14:42You've seen that movie?
00:14:43I've seen that movie, yes.
00:14:44But we'd be doing it in a hot tub, not in a stupid dining room.
00:14:47Who are you?
00:14:48Hello, girls.
00:14:49I thought we discouraged you.
00:14:50You must have mistaken me for someone who isn't falling in love.
00:14:55You girls have just won the most beautiful girls award.
00:15:01And we are the prize.
00:15:03So my two guys are gonna shoot your entire week.
00:15:05You'll never forget it.
00:15:07I'm not sure I want to remember this week.
00:15:09See, I thought I swore off these a minute ago.
00:15:11You can swear off again tonight.
00:15:13Hey, I told you this beach was special.
00:15:17Totally private.
00:15:18Five minutes from your condo.
00:15:19Look at this.
00:15:20He's so gorgeous.
00:15:22This is just the beginning.
00:15:23Hey, I'm your ticket to a good life.
00:15:24Oh, yeah, this is the only place.
00:15:25Yeah.
00:15:26Come here, dude.
00:15:27Come here.
00:15:28Here.
00:15:29Come here, Qian.
00:15:31Here you go.
00:15:32Hey!
00:15:33Come here, Qian.
00:15:34Come here.
00:15:35How are you?
00:15:36Aw, yeah, who am I.
00:15:37It has to be here too?
00:15:38Come here.
00:15:39Come here.
00:15:40I have to be here.
00:15:41Come here, Qian.
00:15:42Oh, my God, look at this.
00:15:43He is so gorgeous.
00:15:44This is just the beginning.
00:15:45Hey, I'm your ticket to a good life.
00:15:46You're here.
00:15:47Let's go.
00:16:17Look at that face.
00:16:25I knew it the moment I saw her.
00:16:27It's just another body, dude.
00:16:29Nuh-uh.
00:16:30Not just another body.
00:16:32Total innocence.
00:16:34But not.
00:16:36She's not gonna do anything.
00:16:38Not the type.
00:16:38She will.
00:16:40Look, the right situation,
00:16:43the right drugs, the right booze.
00:16:46Besides, when we're done with this,
00:16:48she only would think she did everything.
00:18:59Emma!

00:20:48Perfect.
00:20:54Dumb bitch.
00:20:56I'm gonna say, we're so proud of you, you're doing such a great job.
00:21:10I'm gonna say, we're so proud of you, you're doing such a great job.
00:21:16And a few of the members of the board and the faculty want to discuss some ideas that we
00:21:30have for you next week, okay?
00:21:32You're doing such a great job, okay?
00:21:34You're giving such a great job.
00:21:35Yeah.
00:21:35I'm gonna give you some advice.
00:21:37I love you.
00:21:38I love my kid.
00:21:39I'm turning my book from year of the year to teacher of the year.
00:21:43I'm serious.
00:21:44I love the dad of my kids.
00:21:46I love the dad of my kids.
00:21:47Thank you, my dad.

00:22:01Great! Thank you!
00:22:07How did you get them to do all of that?
00:22:10Huh?
00:22:11I don't remember doing anything like that in the second grade, except run around the playground.
00:22:14Do you think it's possible for me to be too impressed?
00:22:17Want to give you a big head?
00:22:18You're gonna think you're too good for a small town fireman.
00:22:20Oh, come on. I would love to show you how untrue that is.
00:22:24You would?
00:22:25Yeah.
00:22:27I would.
00:22:30Will you stay over?
00:22:36Like I don't have a four and a half hour drive to make my shift.
00:22:39But I'll be up next weekend. Okay?
00:22:44I'm really, really proud of you.
00:22:47I love you.
00:22:50You're right.
00:22:51You're right.
00:22:52What about the hunk with the yacht?
00:22:53I remember having a headache and playing charades.
00:22:55What do you think?
00:22:56What do you think?
00:22:57What do I think?
00:22:58I think you should go to San Diego more often.
00:23:02What do you think?
00:23:03What do you think?
00:23:04I think you should go to San Diego more often.
00:23:06Oh, you better go before I make you stay.
00:23:07And you stop me.
00:23:08You're kidding me.
00:23:09Oh, you're kidding me.
00:23:10Oh, you're kidding me.
00:23:11You're kidding me.
00:23:12What do you think?
00:23:13What do you think?
00:23:17What do I think?
00:23:18I think you should go to San Diego more often.
00:23:31You better go before I make you stay.
00:23:35And you stop me.
00:23:37No, you're kidding.
00:23:43By the way, I went topless one night.
00:23:48I'm sorry, you what?
00:23:50Yeah, we all did.
00:23:51It was a little weird out there.
00:23:52You should have been there.
00:23:54See the new me.
00:23:58I told you you didn't know what you were missing.
00:24:02It's party time!
00:24:03From all over the country they come.
00:24:05You know what they want.
00:24:06That girl next door, they play the tease,
00:24:08but they're showing it on display.
00:24:11They just want somebody to grab it.
00:24:12And you can be that guy
00:24:14and get them on the beach and in your lap.
00:24:17Get your credit card ready.
00:24:18Click the download button.
00:24:19Get every second of what these horny chicks do.
00:24:23No more hard porno queens.
00:24:25These are the girls next door.
00:24:28The board, we all were so impressed
00:24:31by your imagination and your handling of the children
00:24:33that the PTA would like to fund
00:24:36an extracurricular program for all grades.
00:24:38Oh, my God.
00:24:39For the other teachers as well.
00:24:40I've had three kids go through this school.
00:24:43But you raised the bar.
00:24:45I thought you should be rewarded for your talents.
00:24:48Wow.
00:24:49I don't know what to say.
00:24:52I'm flattered.
00:24:54I just don't know quite how it would work.
00:24:57Well, if you're agreeable,
00:24:58we could set up another meeting
00:24:59and see if we can figure something out.
00:25:01Boy, you sure know how to make enemies.
00:25:03First, you come back from California positively glowing.
00:25:07And now you're holding seminars.
00:25:11It's a terrible idea, isn't it?
00:25:13It's a great idea.
00:25:15But it's also the best way
00:25:16to get yourself most hated teacher of the year.
00:25:19Well, then I just won't do it.
00:25:22School politics are funny.
00:25:24I mean, it looks all touchy-feely,
00:25:26but you just never want to give anyone
00:25:29too much ammunition.
00:25:36Hey, Jess, come here.
00:25:43Is that who it looks like?
00:25:47Can't be.
00:25:48It's like one of those spring break tapes.
00:25:49It's different, more extreme.
00:25:51Did she go down to some spring break thing?
00:25:52You watched the whole thing.
00:25:54It's her.
00:25:56It gets pretty raunchy.
00:25:57You think we ought to tell Dave?
00:26:01Suddenly all the other teachers are mad at me.
00:26:03Well, most.
00:26:04Well, you could try switching schools.
00:26:06Better yet, you could come home.
00:26:08You know you could get a job in a second.
00:26:10Maybe it's time.
00:26:12Is that code for get married
00:26:13and live happily ever after in Prerodution?
00:26:16So what if it is?
00:26:17It's not the end of the world.
00:26:18I just don't know if I want to spend my whole life
00:26:22in a small town.
00:26:23Why?
00:26:24What's wrong with it?
00:26:26Well, would you live somewhere else?
00:26:29I don't think so.
00:26:30I think Prairie has a lot to offer.
00:26:32I mean, history, family, roots.
00:26:36I mean, honey, it's a good town.
00:26:37It's our home.
00:26:39I mean, what, is there something you want to do
00:26:41that needs you to be someplace else?
00:26:43It can be a little suffocating.
00:26:44You don't think people feel suffocated
00:26:46no matter where they are?
00:26:47I mean, anywhere.
00:26:48Madison, Chicago, San Diego, wherever you were.
00:26:54All right, honey, I guess I could learn how to surf.
00:26:56No, I didn't say that.
00:26:57Look, all I'm saying is I don't remember you feeling this way
00:27:00before you took your little trip.
00:27:02Did something happen out there?
00:27:04Made you feel like you needed to be someplace else?
00:27:07I don't know.
00:27:08With someone else?
00:27:11Listen, I've always felt this way.
00:27:14Okay, I mean, don't you feel this way sometimes?
00:27:16What if there's something out there that's perfect?
00:27:20Perfect for you.
00:27:21For us.
00:27:22You know, we might never know.
00:27:24I think that everything that's perfect for us
00:27:26is right there.
00:27:29I mean, you could turn your back on it
00:27:30looking for something else.
00:27:31I don't know what, but
00:27:32by the time you figure it out,
00:27:34what you don't know is what you've lost.
00:27:36David, nothing's changed.
00:27:38Yeah, maybe.
00:27:41But, uh, at least it's in the open now.
00:27:44Don't you think we've been ignoring this?
00:27:46You know, not facing the facts here?
00:27:47What?
00:27:47No.
00:27:48What are you talking about?
00:27:49Kate, listen.
00:27:50I love you, and you love me.
00:27:53Those are the facts.
00:27:55Yeah, but, no, look, the fact is
00:27:56I like Prairie, okay?
00:27:58I like my job.
00:28:00It makes me feel good.
00:28:01Like I'm doing something I'm proud of.
00:28:05Yeah.
00:28:07I'm sorry.
00:28:08I've got to go.
00:28:08Come here.
00:28:11I love you.
00:28:13I'll see you soon.
00:28:13I'll see you soon.
00:28:43I'll see you soon.
00:29:13I'll see you soon.
00:29:43I'm sure there's some kind of
00:29:51reasonable explanation here.
00:29:54Mistaken identity.
00:29:55Something.
00:29:57I just thought you should know
00:29:58someone raised the issue.
00:29:59I don't understand.
00:30:01If somebody would say something like that,
00:30:08don't I get a chance to defend myself?
00:30:10It may be a little premature.
00:30:12If there's no substance to it,
00:30:15then we can forget we ever had this conversation.
00:30:19It's more important that it's not true.
00:30:21What am I supposed to do?
00:30:22What am I supposed to do?
00:30:23Somebody that I don't know who it is is saying that I'm in some porno film that they won't
00:30:32identify and I what?
00:30:34If you'd like to take the rest of the day off.
00:30:37Oh, I wouldn't like to take the rest of the day off.
00:30:40I haven't done anything.
00:30:43Why should I?
00:30:45Oh.
00:30:46Emma, it's not a suggestion.
00:30:48I'm not making it a formal suspension, but
00:30:49just take a couple of days off.
00:30:53She wouldn't even tell me what they were talking about.
00:31:06I heard it was about you and some movie.
00:31:09You didn't do anything weird when you were in San Diego, did you?
00:31:12No.
00:31:13I mean, we all had fun.
00:31:15Well, we took our tops off one night.
00:31:17That's it.
00:31:18I should have gone to San Tropez.
00:31:20I mean, you're sure you let go a little.
00:31:22It was vacation.
00:31:23It was more silly than anything.
00:31:26Yeah, but silly to you can be salacious to somebody else.
00:31:28I mean, the trouble with this kind of thing is there will always be somebody who believes
00:31:31it because they secretly want it to be true.
00:31:35No, I haven't heard anything about it.
00:31:37Yeah, I tried to call Lorraine, but I couldn't reach her.
00:31:40Um, I've been suspended.
00:31:42How can they do that?
00:31:44Are all of us in it?
00:31:45I don't know.
00:31:45I don't even know if this thing exists.
00:31:49I mean, do you know where I would find this type of thing?
00:31:51But I mean, what would we look for?
00:31:54Emma, Steph, and Lorraine.
00:31:55Flash in Mint Nurse Cove.
00:31:57Okay, well, if you talk to Lorraine, tell her to call me, all right?
00:32:01I will.
00:32:01Okay.
00:32:02All right.
00:32:02All right.
00:32:06All right.
00:32:14Best M.
00:32:15Best M hit on the next.
00:32:17Locker room.
00:32:18What was your wife doing while you're at work?
00:32:21Locker room.
00:32:22Don't make sure you're a hell of a camp.
00:32:24Cam and Cam.
00:32:25Cam and Cam.
00:32:26All right.
00:32:27First timers guaranteed.
00:32:28Turn off.
00:32:28Turn off.
00:32:29I don't understand, Reverend.
00:32:43I thought we were doing a pretty good job for the church.
00:32:47Well, if you want to make a change, that's fine.
00:32:49But there has to be a reason.
00:32:52I mean, it's okay if you have to.
00:32:54It just, I'm just confused.
00:32:55Look, if it's something we did, I...
00:32:59I have to go downstairs and tell Henry to cancel that Emanuel Lutheran order.
00:33:04St. Matthews just canceled their bulletin order.
00:33:07It makes three of our biggest accounts.
00:33:09What's going on?
00:33:13What the hell do you think you're talking about?
00:33:15What the hell do you think you're talking about?
00:33:15Hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:33:16Hey, look.
00:33:17Nobody is stumping to any conclusions.
00:33:19Look, Steve.
00:33:20I'm sorry as hell, all right?
00:33:21We've all known Emerald.
00:33:22I'm lying.
00:33:23Hey, all I did was stumble across something.
00:33:25Hey, look, Dave.
00:33:25What the hell, man?
00:33:26Look, Dave.
00:33:27It's out there, okay?
00:33:28What's out there?
00:33:28There's nothing out there.
00:33:30It's not Emma.
00:33:31It's not Emma.
00:33:55It's not Emma.
00:33:59It's not Emma.
00:34:03We'll see you next time.
00:34:33She doesn't have tenure I mean what is the policy in a situation like this but
00:34:41she has the right to bring it to the board the school could be sued even the
00:34:47public airing of such an issue would be damaging to the school it's also a human
00:34:52question pretty soon the kids are gonna get wind of this and get curious and I
00:34:58for one do not want to be explaining to my seven-year-old what pornography is
00:35:01no I haven't said anything till now because she's such a good teacher and
00:35:06she presents herself so well but if she stays I'm pulling Jason out of school
00:35:18hi you ought to check your machine ring about a thousand times maybe it's not
00:35:25working anyway you you haven't answered my email yet what's going on town burning
00:35:33down
00:35:35well things are pretty crappy here
00:35:37okay bye
00:35:40I love you
00:35:42bye
00:35:44hey
00:35:58your choice is either resign or I will have to take this to the district and
00:36:10initiate a formal dismissal now if you resign there can be some reason something
00:36:15neutral something that won't hurt your record I'll help you frame the situation
00:36:20so it won't affect your future I didn't do anything how could you believe that I
00:36:26would I mean at least let me talk to who's spreading this it's no longer a case of
00:36:31an unsubstantiated rumor I have not seen the material but others have teaches parents I will
00:36:41look at it if I have to as well the district what material there is no material I tried looking on
00:36:48the internet you know I don't have to accept this I have a right to fight this and I'm going to you
00:36:54do you do have a right to fight this but let me lay down the process I fire you for cause in this
00:37:06district that is automatically reviewed by the superintendent and the board now you can appeal at
00:37:12a district level which will bring the whole sordid business into the public arena but you should think
00:37:18very carefully about that before you do litigation being what it is this days it would have to be
00:37:23messy and the district it doesn't usually lose Emma I'm trying to do you a favor if you fight it
00:37:35it'll be on your record even if you're exonerated even if it turns out to be nothing it will be on
00:37:39your record every time you go for an interview true or not it'll be there people parents will find
00:37:47out about it they always do now you think a school is going to go against parents and hiring a teacher
00:37:54believe me I'm thinking of your welfare
00:37:59it's not fair
00:38:02it's not fair
00:38:06I have to say goodbye to my children
00:38:15I don't think that's a good idea
00:38:16there's a substitute already in place your things will be gathered and delivered to you
00:38:21how can you just have somebody disappear from their lives
00:38:26you can't just yank somebody from them you understand that
00:38:33they'll get over
00:38:35Emma wait
00:38:39she wouldn't let me say goodbye to my children
00:38:48I'll talk to them I'll tell them something
00:38:51kids are resilient
00:38:53they're usually more than we are
00:38:55at least now we can go see a lawyer
00:38:57or resign
00:38:58I agreed to leave
00:39:01look
00:39:03I know it's lousy but

00:45:57Hi.
00:45:58Emma, hi.
00:45:59How are you?
00:46:00I'm fine.
00:46:01How's everything there?
00:46:02Oh, like always, just chugging along.
00:46:05What's going on?
00:46:06Hey, Dad?
00:46:07Do you miss Mom?
00:46:09Every minute of every day.
00:46:13I know.
00:46:16What's wrong, baby?
00:46:18God.
00:46:22I don't even know how to say this.
00:46:25I don't know what to do.
00:46:26I don't know how they made it or how it happened,
00:46:29but there's this tape, and it looks like I'm on it,
00:46:32but I didn't do anything.
00:46:34I just, I don't know.
00:46:36I don't know what to do.
00:46:37What video?
00:46:38What do you mean?
00:46:38I don't even know how to say this,
00:46:40but it's become some kind of nightmare.
00:46:43And the school, they think that I...
00:46:46Honey, I'm not following you here.
00:46:48Tell me again.
00:46:49No, it's okay.
00:46:51I can handle it.
00:46:52Look, come home.
00:46:53We'll sort it out here.
00:46:55No, it's okay.
00:46:56I'll deal with it.
00:46:59All right, I'm coming up there.
00:47:01No.
00:47:02Don't, Daddy, please.
00:47:03I'm fine.
00:47:04I'm fine.
00:47:05Oh, God.
00:47:07I just, I have to figure this out on my own.
00:47:09I'll come home in a few days, okay?
00:47:12Whenever you take this I-can-handle-it attitude,
00:47:15it's like...
00:47:16Okay?
00:47:17Okay.
00:47:18All right, call me tomorrow.
00:47:20Okay.
00:47:29There is a porno video with me in it.
00:47:31I saw it.
00:47:33You guys are into it a little,
00:47:34but they have me doing stuff with that guy.
00:47:39I mean, I'm not crazy, am I?
00:47:42I mean, we were together the whole time, weren't we?
00:47:45I wasn't drugged or something, was I?
00:47:49We drank a lot.
00:47:51Wait, you mean like someone putting something in our drinks?
00:47:53I don't know, Em.
00:47:56I mean, you realize you're sounding a little crazy now, right?
00:47:58I'm not kidding.
00:48:00I got fired from my job.
00:48:03Even I almost believe it's me right now.
00:48:07Do you remember that charades game,
00:48:08faking the orgasm?
00:48:10Yeah.
00:48:13It really looks like I'm with that guy Greg,
00:48:15or whatever his name was.
00:48:20I mean,
00:48:21it looks so real.
00:48:24It's awful.
00:48:25It made me sick.
00:48:28David saw it.
00:48:30God.
00:48:32He won't even talk to me.
00:48:35I mean, and I can't blame him, you know?
00:48:38I can't.
00:48:39What about Lori and me?
00:48:41Were we in it?
00:48:42Uh, uh, God, I mean, a little bit.
00:48:45I don't know.
00:48:45I didn't watch the whole thing.
00:48:47This could really hurt my career.
00:48:49I mean, you know how academics are.
00:48:51Look, come up and stay with me.
00:48:52No, I can't.
00:48:54I have to figure things out.
00:48:55I mean, at least I can be a little anonymous here.
00:48:59I just wanted to call, make sure I hadn't gone crazy.
00:49:02You're not crazy.
00:49:04There must be some kind of a logical explanation for this.
00:49:07Look, if you just come up here,
00:49:09it'll all be okay.
00:49:10I think we should stick together.
00:49:12Emma, can you hear me?
00:49:17Yeah.
00:49:18Uh.
00:49:19Why don't you go take a run or something?
00:49:21You know I'll come down there if you want me to.
00:49:22Um, it's okay.
00:49:24I'm fine.
00:49:26Thanks.
00:49:33Well, that just sounds a little confusing.
00:49:34I know.
00:49:35I know it does.
00:49:36But I know that I didn't do anything that's on that tape.
00:49:41But it looks so real.
00:49:43Even I almost believe it's me.
00:49:46I mean, what if I was drugged or something?
00:49:47You know, is that possible for me to do something like that and not even know it?
00:49:52Well, one hears of cases of date rape drugs, things like that.
00:49:57Look, Emma, there's a kind of bottom line.
00:50:00It may not be what you want to hear, but either you did it and don't remember,
00:50:05or you did some things that make it look like you're doing more,
00:50:08or it was somebody else.
00:50:12You don't believe me.
00:50:13I do.
00:50:15I do.
00:50:15Well, I want to believe you.
00:50:20I guess I do believe you because I trust my instinct about you as a person.
00:50:24But look at the situation.
00:50:26I mean, I haven't seen it.
00:50:27But even if you think about maybe being drugged or something,
00:50:31or whether you did it or not,
00:50:33people think you did.
00:50:35That's what you have to fight.
00:50:38People see me, and I think they know.
00:50:41They look at me, and I can't stand it.
00:50:43Okay, I can't go anywhere without thinking that everybody knows.
00:50:49Do you know how that feels?
00:50:52I called a friend, a lawyer.
00:50:55She wasn't very helpful.
00:50:56She had somebody in her office look at the videotape.
00:51:00Well, this is what she thought.
00:51:05She said it would be better if you moved away to some other school district.
00:51:10That thing's died down.
00:51:13With nothing on your permanent record, you could start afresh.
00:51:15Maybe it makes sense, Emma.
00:51:23I'm your friend.
00:51:25I know you're a good person.
00:51:26You've proved that.
00:51:28A wonderful, talented person.
00:51:30But I'm not the issue.
00:51:32Even the school isn't.
00:51:35David is.
00:51:36Your family.
00:51:38You.
00:51:38You.
00:51:38You need to figure out something most people never have to figure out.
00:51:44Who you are, and what you're going to do about it.
00:52:09You.
00:52:09Who you are, and what you're doing.
00:52:10You.
00:52:12You.
00:52:14You.
00:52:15And what?
00:52:16Bye.
00:52:17Bye.
00:52:18Bye.
00:52:18Bye.
00:52:19Bye.
00:52:28Bye.
00:52:30Bye.
00:52:32Bye.
00:52:34Bye.
00:52:35Bye.
00:52:36Bye.
00:52:38Bye.
00:52:38Oh, my God.
00:53:08Oh, my God.
00:53:38Oh, my God.
00:54:08Oh, my God.
00:54:38Oh, my God.
00:55:08Oh, my God.
00:55:15Please.
00:55:16Hey, what are you?
00:55:17Please.
00:55:18Please.
00:55:19Hey.
00:55:20Hey.
00:55:21Get under you bastard.
00:55:22Help.
00:55:23Please.
00:55:24Help.
00:55:25Please.
00:55:26Help.
00:55:27Please.
00:55:28Oh, my God.
00:55:29Oh, my God.
00:55:30Oh, my God.
00:55:32It's okay, sweet.
00:55:33It's okay.
00:55:34It's okay.
00:55:35It's okay.
00:55:36All right, I'm...
00:55:37Oh, God.
00:55:41It's okay, Lucy.
00:55:45I'm going home.
00:55:47No, Emma, you can't let him get away with this.
00:55:51You know, I just gotta get out of here.
00:56:07Dad?
00:56:37You awake?
00:57:07I came home.
00:57:20I take it then it's not all good.
00:57:25I have an inkling about some of this.
00:57:28You haven't had much experience of bad things.
00:57:33So I don't want you to think you can't come to me, you know?
00:57:37Honey?
00:58:04That's good.
00:58:06Is it?
00:58:07I stood there looking down at some stupid plaque
00:58:11and thinking, where the hell is my mother?
00:58:18I guess it doesn't really matter anymore, but...
00:58:22I'm home, Dad!
00:58:24Hey, Em, what are you doing home?
00:58:28Honey, could you give us a minute?
00:58:30We're talking.
00:58:31Oh, what about Emma's dirty video?
00:58:34I mean, I look at it this way.
00:58:37It doesn't seem like the kind of thing my big sister would do.
00:58:39But you could have had this Jekyll and Hyde moment.
00:58:42In that case, you're a very sick girl.
00:58:44If you didn't, maybe we should figure out what happened.
00:58:47I mean, can they do that stuff where you put your head on someone else's body?
00:58:51You know, like all that compute-generated stuff you see in the regular movies.
00:58:55Do you remember that gag shot we did for the Kiwanis, where we mixed up all the heads with the bodies?
00:59:00But you'd have to have something to work with.
00:59:03There was stuff I did.
00:59:04Like that charades game, but not anything like that.
00:59:07We're all tarred with this.
00:59:10We've lost a third of our business.
00:59:12Almost all the churches.
00:59:14Why don't you give Chief Rogers a call?
00:59:16Look, I know you're having a rough time, okay?
00:59:18I mean, obviously, you weren't treated that well by a couple of the cops up there, but...
00:59:22One cop went as far as to say that it was my fault.
00:59:25I mean, here I am, nearly raped, and they're telling me that I'm the type of person who's dangering women.
00:59:31I mean, I don't think there are any federal laws that cover this sort of thing.
00:59:45This took place in California.
00:59:47God only knows what their laws allow.
00:59:50So you're telling me that they can just get away with this?
00:59:52I mean, then what good are cops?
00:59:55What if the police were to shut down their club, say, oh, to protect you from this happening?
01:00:00Now, I think you'd be pretty upset at the law missing in areas that most folks nowadays consider to be their own business.
01:00:11Well, thanks for coming by, Chief.
01:00:15At least you listened.
01:00:19Hey, I've been trying to reach you.
01:00:21One second, right?
01:00:22Okay.
01:00:23Um, yeah, I've been busy.
01:00:27I, um, I saw the tape.
01:00:30My first thought was, boy, she sure made better use of her time than I did.
01:00:36Just kidding.
01:00:36We were together the whole time.
01:00:38Were we?
01:00:39Well, not like every minute.
01:00:41I mean, I was bopping Mr. Conga line, while you had Mr. I.
01:00:45What are you talking about?
01:00:47Look, hey, I'm sorry you're getting a lot of flack for this, but, you know, people get Academy Awards for less.
01:00:53Or worse.
01:00:53Okay, the tape's pretty bad.
01:00:57And maybe it's not the Emma I know, but what other explanation is there?
01:01:02I mean, just forget it.
01:01:04Everybody needs to grow up a little.
01:01:06Why are you doing this?
01:01:08I'm just being honest.
01:01:10I mean, your mantra is to hell with it.
01:01:12I mean, the phoniness?
01:01:13I mean, who cares?
01:01:15Happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas, you know?
01:01:18I mean, everybody acts all shocked and then sneaks off their computers and watches it.
01:01:22It swaps wives in Des Moines.
01:01:24I mean, have you seen what Ordinary Girls and Those Girls Gone Wild tapes do?
01:01:29I mean, I'm doing stuff I wouldn't have done a couple months ago.
01:01:32This is wrecking my life, and you're...
01:01:35What the hell are you doing?
01:01:45Hello?
01:01:45Dwight, there's a fire at the store.
01:01:54My poster.
01:02:24Police think it was a couple of kids.
01:02:31They hear their parents talking, and they act out.
01:02:33Not a case of small-town hysteria.
01:02:35Maybe, but it's not as bad as it could have been.
01:02:38Well, yeah, somebody could have been killed.
01:02:40On the other hand, we've been getting phone calls all morning.
01:02:43People expressing their sympathy.
01:02:45We even got a couple of accounts back.
01:02:51Sure you want to be here?
01:02:54I mean, last night was pretty emotional.
01:02:56You don't want to get stuck just because you rescued some poster.
01:03:01Excuse me.
01:03:06I know what I'm doing.
01:03:08Do you?
01:03:10Did you know what you were doing when you weren't around when I needed you?
01:03:14What?
01:03:16Look, I don't blame you.
01:03:20Or maybe I do.
01:03:21You know, I don't know what I would have done with somebody that I loved.
01:03:27But all I know is that I've been through hell.
01:03:31And nobody protected me.
01:03:35Look, we're not back yet.
01:03:38I don't know if we're going to get there.
01:03:39We could talk about you feeling unprotected.
01:03:45But there is a lot of other stuff here.
01:03:48Like you not wanting to marry me.
01:03:50Or giving me the idea that you wanted to explore other options.
01:03:53Whoa, I never said that.
01:03:54Yeah, no, the hell you didn't.
01:03:55Okay, but that's how I took it.
01:03:57Maybe there's some Dr. Phil way I should have reacted.
01:04:00I'm operating on blind faith here.
01:04:02Like, what the hell actually did happen out there?
01:04:04Why didn't you just come and tell me everything?
01:04:07I think I just deserve a little credit for that.
01:04:12Maybe you do.
01:04:16Look, maybe we can get through this.
01:04:20Maybe we can't.
01:04:23Either way, Emma, I want you to know I'm here to help.
01:04:28Let me help.
01:04:29Okay, assuming she didn't do what's on the tape, then what's the explanation?
01:04:40Well, usually these videos are just regular college girls.
01:04:42They get drunk and lose it.
01:04:43I mean, they have sex and stuff, but this is like FOMO hardcore.
01:04:46Also, the style.
01:04:49What? I don't follow.
01:04:49Well, it jumps around a lot.
01:04:51Something weird.
01:04:52Maybe you get someone to analyze it or something.
01:04:53Hey, does your brother know if there's some sort of department or research program that
01:05:01can tell if something like a video is real or not?
01:05:05I'm sure there must be something.
01:05:07Maybe the communications department can set up a test.
01:05:12Are you nervous?
01:05:16Liar!
01:05:17You're afraid that the video might prove that I did what it really looks like.
01:05:21You're afraid if it doesn't, then you're going to have to stay mad at me forever.
01:05:25I don't know.
01:05:26I think we're both going to have to grow up on this one.
01:05:29I mean, the question is, do you prove to someone that you love them by standing by
01:05:33them no matter what it looked like they did, or do you forgive somebody for being confused
01:05:37about it?
01:05:38This is a no-end situation.
01:05:41Who's the you?
01:05:42Me.
01:05:44You.
01:05:45Well, it sounds like we're stuck.
01:05:48I love you.
01:05:49That's what I know.
01:05:50More than anything, I just wish I could understand it a little better.
01:05:54What if I was drugged or psychotic or something?
01:05:58Psychotic?
01:05:59I'd never bargain for psychotic.
01:06:04This is a very good job here.
01:06:05This one looks like the face and the body are the same.
01:06:08Excellent.
01:06:09Now, if I magnify the image more and more to here, you can see that there is a shape difference
01:06:14between the pixels on this side of the line and the other side.
01:06:17And if I had density, see, the images were taken in different light.
01:06:21The other thing is this, the movement of the pixels.
01:06:24One really must admire the work here.
01:06:27This difference in the speed of the movement is virtually undetectable.
01:06:30So it's not me.
01:06:31Well, some of it is you.
01:06:34And the top part is you.
01:06:35The bottom, oh, the wrist, appear to be someone else.
01:06:39It's fake.
01:06:42It is a fake.
01:06:43Oh, my God.
01:06:44Thank you so much.
01:06:48You see?
01:06:53This is me.
01:06:54Remember, I don't need any help.
01:07:00You'd testify, wouldn't you?
01:07:02Ah, that is the question.
01:07:03And the answer is, of course, yes.
01:07:05But the defense, what will they do?
01:07:07They'll get some other version of me to prove the exact opposite.
01:07:09Yeah, but the tape is fake.
01:07:11Oh, yes.
01:07:12But do you really expect the jury to sort it out?
01:07:14When the most convincing expert is always the last one to speak.
01:07:17I have to do something about this.
01:07:19There is someone to whom I have consulted, specialists in privacy law.
01:07:23I could give her a call.
01:07:27I would say you have a pretty clear case of identity theft.
01:07:31On the other, to a certain extent, you're damaged goods.
01:07:34Excuse me, but what the hell do you mean by that?
01:07:37The defense would contend that at the very least, you voluntarily put yourself in a position,
01:07:41appearing in a public display that allowed them to use your tape,
01:07:45even acting out a sexual simulation.
01:07:47There's no shimmery in these things.
01:07:49I was fired from my job, stalked, nearly raped,
01:07:52my family's business burned down to the ground.
01:07:55Me and everybody that I know has been humiliated.
01:07:58And what if this never goes away?
01:08:00You might be able to convince a jury that you've been slandered on the identity theft issue.
01:08:05But if you're not a public person, you know, the damage to your reputation is usually considered minimal.
01:08:11You'd be amazed how common what you're experiencing is, in one form or another.
01:08:15So you mean to tell me that a lot of women are having their heads put on another body and being turned into porno stars?
01:08:20Oh, you're a little unique.
01:08:22But there are a large number of women who go someplace, like you did, say spring break, or Mardi Gras, or even on their college campus.
01:08:30And they do something like flush their breasts or get drunk, even allowing themselves to be photographed having an origin.
01:08:36But I didn't do anything like that.
01:08:37Yeah, but you also didn't exclude yourself.
01:08:39The explosion of pornography and technology affects all women.
01:08:45Whether it's what happened to you or somebody with a cell phone or a miniature camera in a girl's locker room.
01:08:50Basically, it undermines a woman's right to do or be whomever she wants to.
01:08:54It was far simpler when we were more puritanical.
01:08:57That's just nuts.
01:08:57Yeah, well, it is schizophrenic.
01:08:59But look at our culture.
01:09:00A lot of it women have either helped create or patronized.
01:09:04We have rap lyrics which degrade and invite abusive women, which many women approve of.
01:09:10Advertising is filled with soft porn.
01:09:13Our culture is full of images which are designed to sexually excite.
01:09:19Now, the man who stalked you probably thought you were just playing hard to get.
01:09:23College girls line up to do soft and hardcore for the fun of it.
01:09:28It's big problems for juries.
01:09:31How many contradictions can they deal with?
01:09:32Yeah, but I thought that there were laws protecting women.
01:09:35No, there are and there aren't.
01:09:36Well, women are mostly protected by commonly understood social contracts.
01:09:40In the last 30 years, we thought we could have it all.
01:09:43Independence and protections.
01:09:44There's got to be something that can be done.
01:09:46Most laws are a generation behind the technology.
01:09:49Now, the Supreme Court of Washington State ruled that a woman was not protected
01:09:52in a checkout line from an up-the-skirt camera.
01:09:57Other state courts have held that women are not protected in their own bedroom or bathroom
01:10:01against photography through an open window.
01:10:04But people sue for everything all the time.
01:10:06Well, it depends how much time and money you have
01:10:08and how much humiliation you want to endure.
01:10:13Let it blow over.
01:10:14I mean, the bigger deal you make of it, the worse it's going to be for all of us.
01:10:17Yeah, but it isn't a secret.
01:10:19I get looks everywhere I go.
01:10:21I don't want those looks.
01:10:22I don't want people looking at me.
01:10:23You know, and if I just let it go, then thousands, maybe millions of people will think that I did it.
01:10:30Yeah, but you'll never know those millions of people.
01:10:32They might as well not exist for all the influence they'll have in your life.
01:10:35The trouble is that if I leave Prairie, I mean, look at Minneapolis.
01:10:41A lawyer there said that I would be better off just leaving the city.
01:10:45I mean, that video is everywhere.
01:10:47All over the Internet, in stores.
01:10:50You know, maybe it's impossible.
01:10:53And all I want is for people to look at me the way that they used to.
01:11:01David.
01:11:04Honey.
01:11:08Give it up.
01:11:10Damage control in a case like this is just to surround yourself with the people who love you.
01:11:15David, your family, me.
01:11:19You're cool for another teaching job.
01:11:21Just lay low, be anonymous until this whole thing disappears.
01:11:26We'll protect you.
01:11:30I'm going to Mittner's Cove.
01:11:32I have to know.
01:11:34You know what?
01:11:35You know already.
01:11:37You took your top off.
01:11:39You played some stupid game and they made a porn video out of it.
01:11:42Look, it's dangerous.
01:11:44If these people are capable of doing what they're doing, then God knows what else is going on out there.
01:11:48They took something from me and I need to get it back.
01:11:51Well, I'm going with you.
01:11:52No, you're not.
01:11:54That's the problem.
01:11:55I can't be a child who needs someone to ride her bike with her when she goes down the street.
01:12:01I can't be.
01:12:02And that guy in Minneapolis stalked me.
01:12:07And then attacked me.
01:12:10I let him.
01:12:12I mean, I was so afraid that I gave up.
01:12:16I gave myself up.
01:12:18And if it hadn't been for Alice, it's still with me.
01:12:27And I can't let this hang over me.
01:12:31I have to do something about it because if I don't, then I'm always going to be afraid.
01:12:48I'm always going to say, oh, my God, I'm always going to try it out.
01:13:04Pretty pathetic in daylight.
01:13:08Yeah.
01:13:12Excuse me?
01:13:18Hey, you know a guy named Greg or Jimmy still in high school?
01:13:25I need to find them.
01:13:27No, you don't.
01:13:28You need to go home and get over it.
01:13:30Now, see, you don't understand.
01:13:32You don't understand.
01:13:34I stand behind this bar watching this parade of you girls go through here.
01:13:38What do you think?
01:13:40The world's set up for you?
01:13:42It's a set up, all right.
01:13:43But this isn't your world.
01:13:45You can't get even with it.
01:13:47You can't win.
01:13:49Best you can do?
01:13:51Be glad you survived.
01:13:53There are a lot of girls out there who didn't.
01:13:55Believe me.
01:14:08She gave me the number of a lawyer who handles cases like this.
01:14:12But they wouldn't give me an appointment.
01:14:14If she said he'd be in court, he'd be gone for three weeks.
01:14:18L.A. is so huge.
01:14:20I mean, I don't quite know how to do anything.
01:14:22Okay.
01:14:23Go to the courthouse.
01:14:24Find out which one.
01:14:25In L.A. there's probably a lot he could be in.
01:14:28All the trials are posted.
01:14:30I'll call and see if Professor Richardson can give him a call, okay?
01:14:33How'd you get to be so smart?
01:14:35Maybe there's a lot of things you don't know about me.
01:14:38I hope not too much, if you know what I mean.
01:14:41Excuse me, Mr. Salkin.
01:14:43Could I please talk to you for a moment?
01:14:45No.
01:14:47My name is Emma Norman.
01:14:49If I could just...
01:14:51Damn it, please.
01:14:52I told Professor Richardson I wasn't interested.
01:14:55Just five minutes.
01:14:59All right.
01:15:00Go.
01:15:01What do you want?
01:15:03Excuse me?
01:15:04You want money?
01:15:05Someone to go to jail?
01:15:07You want to close down the production house?
01:15:09A hotel?
01:15:10You want your reputation back?
01:15:11A public apology?
01:15:12Come back when you know.
01:15:13I've got to be somewhere.
01:15:15Look.
01:15:16In California, there are no good criminal remedies.
01:15:20There's a few civil codes we could pursue,
01:15:22but I've had my head handed to me on this kind of thing.
01:15:24You think in our litigious world where you can get millions
01:15:26from being within a block of someone smoking,
01:15:29or an asbestos judgment from a jury without being sick,
01:15:31that someone who's truly damaged would actually have a chance?
01:15:35But you'd be wrong.
01:15:36But what about libel or slander laws or fraud?
01:15:39I looked up on the internet the privacy laws of California.
01:15:41Privacy law is very new and very subjective.
01:15:45There's no historical precedent for it in tort law.
01:15:47As a matter of fact, it changes all the time.
01:15:49Privacy is what 12 men and women think it is.
01:15:53I've won some privacy cases from paparazzi after stars
01:15:58to unauthorized books and movies.
01:16:00But every time I go after one of these guys
01:16:02who distribute soft or hardcore porn, I've lost.
01:16:06Juries find it very difficult sorting out our First Amendment rights
01:16:09and our privacy rights.
01:16:10They put my head on another body.
01:16:12That is actionable if you can prove that the distributor ordered it or even knew about it.
01:16:17I know from Professor Richardson that you have a technical expert who's going to testify.
01:16:21The company will have five.
01:16:23You participated in some stuff, right?
01:16:25That means that the jury has to figure out what was voluntary and what wasn't.
01:16:30That makes it look like everything was voluntary.
01:16:32Would they hold a gun to your head?
01:16:35Listen.
01:16:36Juries are as culturally conflicted as the rest of us.
01:16:39High divorce rate, infidelity, ordinary housewife swinging.
01:16:43People who get on juries range from people who watch porn, who are in porn,
01:16:48who are intensely moralistic.
01:16:50Do you sleep with your boyfriend?
01:16:51Did you kiss the guy on the conga line?
01:16:53You were fired from your job.
01:16:55That means somebody thought you were complicit.
01:16:58The defense will tear you apart.
01:17:14Hi.
01:17:15Does your company produce those spring break videos?
01:17:18Do you know who does?
01:17:21Are you here to shoot someone or get a job?
01:17:32I want to talk to someone in charge.
01:17:35Most want a job.
01:17:41Mintness Cove's second edition is here to see Nick.
01:17:44Most of the films are shot on location.
01:17:46What we do here are mostly retakes, close shots and insects.
01:17:49I am so glad to finally meet you.
01:17:51Emma, isn't it?
01:17:52It was on the ID security gap from your bag.
01:17:54I assume that's your real name.
01:17:56You are so good.
01:17:58I mean, I see a lot of girls and you're special.
01:18:01You'd be surprised.
01:18:02It's in the face more than the body and you just jump off the screen.
01:18:06It's really something.
01:18:07I mean, I had no right.
01:18:08I see lots of girls.
01:18:09Lot of girls.
01:18:10Here is the new cover.
01:18:12And you are going to be a star.
01:18:15I just want to know why you doctored that tape.
01:18:18Sorry?
01:18:19You juxtaposed my face with somebody doing things that I never did.
01:18:23You're kidding, right?
01:18:24No, no, no.
01:18:25I'm not kidding.
01:18:26Look at the tape.
01:18:27Look, I'll admit maybe we did a little bit of that when we first started.
01:18:30But now, hell, we make so much money from legit movies we make here or acquire, we don't have to.
01:18:36We even get releases.
01:18:38Today, girls will do damn near anything for a couple of bucks.
01:18:40No, I never signed a release.
01:18:42And I never did anything that's on that tape.
01:18:45You're not kidding.
01:18:46Of course I'm not kidding.
01:18:49S-O-B.
01:18:53Con me.
01:18:55Well, Greg, he said it was a real deal, that you were the real deal.
01:18:59Well, he did a damn good job.
01:19:01I want you to take that tape out of circulation.
01:19:03You have to recall it.
01:19:05You've got to be nuts.
01:19:07Look, I'm sorry you got screwed.
01:19:09Excuse the pun.
01:19:10But we're talking about a very successful video here.
01:19:13This is a big seller.
01:19:14We could break a record with this one.
01:19:15I can talk to the police.
01:19:16I've already talked to a lawyer.
01:19:18I hope it was Sulkin.
01:19:19I've beaten him so many times, he might as well work for me.
01:19:24And you've probably already been to the police.
01:19:27How much help are they?
01:19:30I'm the First Amendment man.
01:19:32Hey, look.
01:19:34Tell you what.
01:19:35How about $5,000?
01:19:38No, $10,000.
01:19:41You deserve it.
01:19:43Think of this as a down payment.
01:19:50Too bad.
01:19:51Well, there's always another one that comes along.
01:19:54Where's Greg?
01:19:56Are you really this dumb?
01:19:58You don't have any idea what you're dealing with.
01:20:02This is a big city.
01:20:04I'm the nicest guy you'll meet in this town.
01:20:08Greg, he's a wild card.
01:20:11I buy stuff from him when he shows up, that's all.
01:20:14If I knew where he lived, I wouldn't tell you.
01:20:17I wouldn't want it on my conscience.
01:20:20Conscience?
01:20:24Go home.
01:20:25It'll be over soon.
01:20:27Audience gets bored fast.
01:20:29You know what they're into now?
01:20:31Fake rape.
01:20:32You've got a short shelf life.
01:20:35In fact, I've got someone newer and hotter downstairs right now.
01:21:05You are bound and determined to get yourself into trouble, aren't you?
01:21:26I really need to get this.
01:21:28Please, please, will you help me?
01:21:31It's not helping you, believe me.
01:22:01You won't.
01:22:02Please, please.
01:22:03Let's get yourself in your göreve!
01:22:04Let's start by off now, by the way.
01:22:05Number one.
01:22:06Now, what?
01:22:07I
01:22:31Hey, what can I do for you?
01:22:45You don't remember me?
01:22:49No, I meet a lot of pretty girls, but I don't.
01:22:55Mintner's Cove? You made a porno movie with my face?
01:22:59Oh, yeah.
01:23:01How'd you find me?
01:23:03Nick Bronson.
01:23:05Oh, well, look, if you want some money, I didn't make a dime from that tape, okay?
01:23:09You gotta talk to him. He's the one that makes all the money.
01:23:11I don't want any money.
01:23:13Look, I'm sorry. It's nothing personal, okay? It's business, all right? That's it.
01:23:17That isn't it.
01:23:20Well, look, I'm not gonna talk out here, so...
01:23:23What are you gonna do? You gonna arrest me?
