Global interconnectedness is under strain amid growing uncertainties, undermining the predictability, reliability, and stability of existing global trade and economic systems, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Delivering his keynote address at the Energy Asia 2025 opening ceremony on Monday (June 16), Anwar said that geopolitical tensions, retaliatory tariffs, and disrupted supply chains have shaken the foundations of these systems—especially in the energy and climate sectors.

On Asia’s path to an equitable energy transition, he stressed the need for the region to define a clear and coherent financial framework that builds investor confidence and channels greater capital into renewable energy projects.

00:00I would like to see the future of Petronas
00:10to make energy Asia
00:13as one of the future
00:16that was very needed
00:19during the crisis of the parties
00:23and development of tariffs in the US
00:26and also the war in the Middle East
00:31because of the war in Israel at the top of Iran.
00:38Although, we can see the celebration of this today is amazing.
00:44It shows that the ASEAN,
00:46and the ASEAN,
00:49is still a powerful strength
00:51that can be able to improve economic growth
00:56based on the skills of our power
00:59that is more realistic
01:02we need to make a conventional
01:06because of the growth of economic growth
01:09that is not surprising
01:10but we need to receive a transition
01:13that transition to a healthy alternative
01:17will be able to keep it
01:18Failing to accept these values and ethics, the interconnectedness is under strain. A rising tide of protectionism, narrow nationalism signals a shift towards post-globalized world.
01:36Geopolitical tensions, retaliatory tariffs, and disrupted supply chains have fueled uncertainty, eroding the predictability, reliability, and stability that global trade and economic systems once offered.
01:52This fragility is perhaps most evident in the energy and climate domain. Rather than fostering collaboration, we are witnessing polarizing policy shifts driven by strategic competition, even as energy security remains out of reach for many.
02:11Here in Asia, we hold fast to the belief that diplomacy prevails over autocracy, that healthy competition can coexist with mutually beneficial outcomes.
02:26In Malaysia, we are working to address this gap between policies such as Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme, CRESS, which allows companies to procure clean energy via the national grid under a third-party access border.
02:41Efforts are also underway to incentivize green investment through mechanisms such as grid technology financing scheme.
02:49The second critical pillar in advancing our energy transition lies in upgrading electricity grids.
02:58In this regard, at the recent ASEAN Summit, we took a significant step by accelerating the ASEAN Power Grid Initiative through enhanced memorandum of agreement and establishment of a dedicated APG financing facility network.
03:18This will enhance cross-border funding flows and bring us closer to a truly integrated regional energy market.
03:27This push for interconnectivity goes beyond trade or diplomacy.
03:33It extends into energy, the very light blood of our modern economies.
03:48It extends into energy, the very light blood of our modern economies.
04:03This is the focus of Häzli in dancing and dancing and the energy transition and embrace the energy transition from Sweden.
