00:00So what happens to your body when you start eating healthy?
00:03Here are some things you'll notice immediately,
00:05and hopefully will keep you eating healthy in the future.
00:08Now I was thinking about this the other day
00:09when I was watching a lecture about climate change.
00:12And I said, well, what does climate change
00:13have to do with eating healthy?
00:15Well, the whole point of this lecture
00:17was that climate change doesn't necessarily impact you
00:21right where you are at that time.
00:23The impacts regarding climate change
00:25and how it relates to you are distant.
00:28It may be somebody who lives far away.
00:31It may be 20 years in the future, maybe even your grandkids.
00:35And it's really hard to make yourself make changes
00:39for things that are not impacting you immediately.
00:42We all have this problem.
00:43You know, if you put your hand on the stove and it hurts,
00:44you're gonna take your hand away
00:45and you're never gonna touch it again.
00:47But if you eat some sugary foods,
00:49and 30 years later you're at risk for a heart attack,
00:52that's a much harder association to make
00:55and change to make based on those things.
00:57So today I'm gonna give you some things
00:59that you can pay attention to that maybe will happen quickly.
01:03So you can be motivated to make healthy changes
01:05and continue to lead a healthier life.
01:08I'm Dr. Blake Schusterman.
01:09I'm a board certified kidney doctor,
01:10and I'm also the cooking doc.
01:12And everything we talk about here today
01:13is just for information.
01:14Make sure you subscribe to my channel,
01:16click the like button, hit that bell,
01:17so you never miss a new recipe or new health tip.
01:20Every week I wanna give you one piece of information,
01:22make you more knowledgeable,
01:24so that you can lead a healthier lifestyle
01:27and better your health in many ways.
01:29So the first thing you'll notice
01:30when you start eating healthier foods
01:32is you'll want healthier foods in the future.
01:34Believe it or not, but the more you eat them,
01:36the more you'll want them later,
01:38and the more your body will get used to them.
01:41So you kinda have to just get over that hump,
01:43and then your body will keep asking for you to be healthy.
01:47Next, and this is my favorite one,
01:49you're gonna feel better.
01:50Pay attention to how you feel
01:51after you have a big heavy meal or fast food.
01:55You probably don't feel so good,
01:57but if you've eaten a lighter meal that still tastes good,
02:00but that doesn't have so many calories or fat or salt,
02:03your body will actually feel better,
02:05especially if you've made that food at home.
02:08Pay attention to your body.
02:09It'll tell you how you feel after you eat,
02:11and if you pay attention,
02:13you'll notice that healthier food makes you feel better.
02:17You know what else you're gonna feel?
02:18You're gonna feel more confident.
02:20Now, how does confidence have to do with how you're eating?
02:22I'll tell you.
02:23When you make a decision,
02:25and you make a change to do something
02:27to better your health,
02:29you're gonna be proud of yourself.
02:31And you should be, because it's not easy.
02:33But making a decision to go on a walk,
02:36or exercise, or create a healthy meal,
02:39will make you feel better about yourself.
02:42Not only will your body feel better,
02:44but you're gonna be more confident,
02:46and you're gonna wanna keep making decisions
02:48to keep up that confidence,
02:50to make you feel better, make you feel stronger.
02:53You won't regret it.
02:54It'll happen pretty quickly.
02:56Just think about the last time
02:58you made a delicious meal that was good for you,
03:01or the last time you went to the gym.
03:03Think about the lasting effects
03:05of making that decision on your psyche.
03:09It's really important.
03:11You'll notice a difference immediately.
03:13Lastly, your gut health is gonna improve.
03:16Okay, this may not be something
03:17that you notice exactly immediately,
03:19but we as physicians are noting more and more
03:22how important the gut microbiome is,
03:26how your gut microbiome may play a role
03:28in anything from your immunity,
03:32to your brain health, to anxiety and depression.
03:36So in addition to possibly helping all these other things
03:38in your body,
03:39you'll also have less bloating most likely,
03:42and you may be more regular.
03:43These are important things that can affect you
03:45on a day-to-day basis,
03:46and I want you to pay attention to.
03:49Okay, did I convince you to eat healthy?
03:50I hope so.
03:51I hope that I at least gave you some ideas
03:53about what to pay attention to in your own body
03:55when you're making decisions to help benefit your health,
04:00making decisions every day to cook food at home,
04:02making decisions every day to use less salt, less fat,
04:06less sugar.
04:07There are many things that you can do every day,
04:09and you will notice the impacts immediately.
04:12It's much more difficult to make changes
04:14based on things in the future
04:16or things that are far away from you,
04:17so focus on the immediate changes,
04:19things that you see within the hours and minutes
04:22and days from when you eat something that's better for you.
04:27I think you'll see a real difference.
04:29Thanks so much for watching today.
