00:00Five lights, it's time for the Canadian Grand Prix, it's lights out, away we go, Russell gets a better reaction, he's clear of Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, then has Kimi Antonelli around the outside, and they're all fighting through the first couple of turns, no contact, that's great to see, Piastri trying to go around the outside of Verstappen, too far back, Antonelli on the inside though, is putting Piastri under pressure, Russell leads from Verstappen, and then Kimi Antonelli, up into third place, brilliant start from him, Colin Pinto on the inside, here goes Alex Albon around the outside, there was no
00:29room there, and he's over the grass and back onto the track again, and Kimi Antonelli and Nico Hülkenberg scoots, Russell leads then, as he has done from the start, and he got, without doubt, the quicker reaction time and a better getaway, yeah, it's a curious first part of the lap, where you have to swing right, and then turn one's a deceleration zone, into the hairpin, and Piastri was trying to go around the outside, and this is where he lost out third place to Antonelli,
00:56Piastri on another day, if it was up for a championship, would have tried to break it out around the outside of turn three, but
01:03it just wasn't worth the risk to him, so let's look at that reaction time, it fogged down a little bit, Max's car, it just got a bit too much grip, not quite enough revs, and he was
01:17immediately having to defend second place.
01:21Antonelli getting very close to the gearbox of the Red Bull, and that's rear wing, and we can see a great shot here, from behind the Red Bull, of how Antonelli slid that Mercedes down the inside, and into third place,
01:33as I say, Alex Albon, not having the best of first laps, thought the move was on with Franco Colopinto, had to take to the grass, this is bumpy,
01:41wow, that's going to shake his feelings for a while, yeah, getting airborne, you do a lot of damage underneath the car, as well, Max Verstappen's going to be under threat in the next DRS zone here,
01:54as we can see from the helicopter shot, the packed grandstands, and Lando Norris getting past Fernando Alonso, and he was pretty much level with Aston Martin when the DRS popped open, so
02:05got the overtake done, and then got the benefit of the extra 16 kilometers an hour, power unit issue, and affecting Alex Albon again, here comes Antonelli, in the works Mercedes,
02:15side by side, with Max Verstappen, who goes straight into the pits, and thinks, right, fragile tires, get rid of them, he was going to get overtaken, I think, by Antonelli,
02:25but this is an early pit stop, lap 13, for Max Verstappen.
02:30Russell has pitted, so this is plan A, we need one of those amazing races from you here.
02:36Right now, here we go, looks like it, I've got a fast car, I've got a fast race car.
02:40Well, it looks like that senior team was right on the money, the way it's working out, Lewis Hamilton's coming into the pits, Lando Norris gets past him, Hamilton will just have to drop back a little bit here,
02:50so he can move over to the left-hand side, and come into the pits, that's probably cost Hamilton two or three times, but is Piastri vulnerable if he doesn't come in and pit soon?
03:00This is Verstappen, who I mentioned, had Nico Hülkenberg ahead of him, as the first car's clear, and he has done that within a couple of laps.
03:08As we look at a replay of the hairpin of Carlos Sainz, whoa, locking up, catching Gabriel Bortoletto's attention there,
03:16and almost collecting the, almost collecting the car in front of him, which I think was Oli Behrman in the Haas.
03:26Sainz hasn't pitted yet, so luckily that's his first set of tyres, it'll be a bit square.
03:31And that's Yuki Tsunoda, after Bortoletto wasn't so brilliant, getting out of the hairpin, making up another place.
03:38There's a move coming for Lewis very soon, let's see it, down towards Turn 1, because he's not that far behind the Williams, pulls out to go wheel-to-wheel now, into Turn 1 we go.
03:47Hamilton's managed to clear then the Williams, and up into 8th to be out there, and he's now got Fernando Alonso right behind him,
03:53trying to put pressure into Turn 1, Alonso's going to go down the inside, and does so.
03:58Very nicely done by Fernando Alonso, great car control to bring that car to a slow, and make the apex.
04:05Russell with DRS, picking up a bit of a slipstream, now going wheel-to-wheel, and blasting past the Ferrari.
04:11George Russell up into second, Charles Leclerc, for one moment, thinks,
04:15you know, I might be able to get you under braking, but no, Russell was away, and he'd gone, and that was the move that had been coming.
04:21Norris' pace fading away a little bit now.
04:23It is, but hoping he can get the advantage back, if it's a one-stopper, by not losing 18 more seconds for a second pit stop.
04:32Let's just have a little look at how George Russell got past Charles Leclerc, as easy as you would like if you're the Mercedes driver.
04:39This is going to be very, very tight indeed, but you feed in a straight line, straight onto the track here.
04:45Verstappen's got a couple of corners to negotiate, as Verstappen got past, he has, you know.
04:49That was a super lap there from Max Verstappen, and by pulling the undercut, Verstappen has managed to stay ahead of Kimi Antonelli.
04:59Piastri, at the moment, will come out about a second behind Antonelli, so they're going for an offset, as we see a replay of Russell's stop.
05:06His rear didn't tighten up properly, that's why it was a slower stop.
05:10Yeah, just to finish up, so when I mean offset, they're hoping that he'll have fresher tyres to attack Antonelli towards the end of the Grand Prix.
05:18Thank you very much.
05:20Maintain that pace, keep Max Verstappen at bay.
05:24He's got it, he's got it covered, but still a decent way to go.
05:27We saw there how Stroll managed to force his way down the inside against Pierre Gasly.
05:31This is when Gasly came back at him. Does Stroll give him enough space?
05:36Oh, you've got to leave him at the car's way.
05:38Yeah, that's a penalty, push me wide.
05:41Understood, we're looking at it.
05:43Put me on the ground.
05:45Yeah, we see.
05:46That's unquestionably against the regulations.
05:50Liam Lawson's been noted for ignoring blue flags, and that is a Williams pulling out of this race and parking.
05:56It's Alex Albon, who would like to forget, I'm sure, this year's Canadian Grand Prix.
06:01Lance Stroll's got a penalty for forcing another driver off the track.
06:06A 10-second time penalty for him, and in the nick of time, Nico Hülkenberg gets past Yuki Tsunoda and up now into 11th place.
06:15Thank you, sorry, mate.
06:16It's a hard day, and this is the cherry on top.
06:20But we had to take care of this peel.
06:23The new one that they put in overnight.
06:24So this is where Norris needs to be super tight.
06:28And he's going down the inside.
06:30And catches Piastri, maybe by surprise, goes a bit deeper.
06:34Piastri saw him coming.
06:35He thinks he can get him on the exit, and he is fractionally ahead.
06:39And they've both got Dihares, and they're both going wheel to wheel.
06:43And it's two McLarens powering down the back straight.
06:46Down the inside goes Oscar Piastri to hold on to that position.
06:50Wow.
06:51Lando Norris caught him by surprise.
06:53Piastri really reacted well.
06:56And he's into the grass, and they have touched.
06:58The front wing has gone, and Lando Norris is out of this race.
07:02And he said inevitably the two McLarens would come together at some point.
07:07And that point on lap 67 in Canada has arrived now.
07:12Let's go through it again.
07:13Initially, super move by Lando Norris.
07:15Down the inside, Piastri is half a car length ahead, but not for long.
07:20Yeah, and critically, they both got DRS, because Piastri still had it from the Mercedes ahead of him.
07:27And that, Piastri was tight into the final chicane, so slow out.
07:30And now Norris gets his rear wing open again.
07:33Goes left.
07:35Did they even touch?
07:37I think he went for a gap that wasn't there.
07:39Did they even touch?
07:40Potentially.
07:41Let's have a look.
07:42I think he's thought that there's a gap on the inside.
07:44I've got to do something to catch him by surprise to try and get past him.
07:48There's the gap.
07:49Oh, no, it's not.
07:49They did touch.
07:50He touched.
07:50His front wing touched the rear tyre surface of Piastri.
07:55Are you all right, dude?
07:57Yeah, I'm sorry.
07:58It's all my bad.
08:00All that.
08:00All my fault.
08:02I don't know if he's sorry.
08:04Stupid for me.
08:06Lando taking full responsibility for that incident.
08:10That we can see now from Oskar's vantage point.
08:15Yeah, it was his front wing touching the rear surface.
08:19Yeah.
08:21So Piastri's taking the normal racing line.
08:25And there was a point there where Lando's still thinking he can do it.
08:29Yeah, there's not really space around there.
08:33And Lando's put his both hands up, basically, hasn't he, on that one?
08:37Grid, a fourth different winner in 2025 for George Russell in his victory in the Canadian Grand Prix.
08:46And it is a fourth career win.
08:49Congratulations to him and to Mercedes.
08:52Superb performance.
08:54Superb job.
08:55Well done.
08:55And that was brilliant drive all weekend.
08:59Nice.
09:00Well done, Tim.
09:01I made up for last year.
09:02Well done, Tim.
09:03Well done.
09:04Congrats, Kimmy.
09:05Congrats.
