00:06:59After reaching the semi-final and the final of the last two major tournaments,
00:07:04Gareth Southgate's squad made it very clear.
00:07:06They came to Qatar to win.
00:07:08There's more desire to go further.
00:07:10We've got 26 players here who are all looking to win a World Cup.
00:07:14That's everyone's dream as a kid.

00:07:18Maybe I'm saving it.

00:07:51there was a genuine belief that this was a different England.
00:07:58England have a second penalty in this World Cup quarterfinal.

00:09:46But I think that he's got to find a way
00:09:48of affecting games in these big moments.

00:09:53in the togetherness, the planning,
00:09:56all that kind of thing.

00:09:58in the second half.

00:10:02in the tournament where he made substitutions.
00:10:03It was great.
00:10:04But in the knockout phases against the best teams,
00:10:07the big teams,
00:10:08he's yet to show us that he can affect the game
00:10:10with a moment of tactical brilliance
00:10:13or a substitution at the right time.
00:10:16He was reactive in that game
00:10:17with his substitutions rather than proactive.
00:10:19A lot of us think England are a good team
00:10:21at the moment with good young players.
00:10:23Is that just us being deluded
00:10:25or is that the view perhaps from outside as well, Didier?
00:10:28No, no, no.
00:10:29That's the view from everybody.
00:10:31You know, England has a really, really good team.
00:10:35I thought they could beat France, actually,
00:10:37because the second half they played.
00:10:39I mean, they've been consistent in this tournament,
00:10:41scoring goals,
00:10:43playing as a team,
00:10:46tactically really strong.
00:10:47But, again, France is here.
00:10:50They're a good side.
00:10:51Yeah, they're a good side.
00:10:52I think the reason it hurts so much
00:10:55is there's no doubt about it
00:10:56that it's a massive missed opportunity.
00:10:59When you look at the teams left in the tournament
00:11:03that England would have faced
00:11:05if they hadn't beaten them,
00:11:07that's why there's so much hurt
00:11:09because there's genuine belief from all of us,
00:11:11from the staff,
00:11:12from all the players,
00:11:13that's why they'll go away from this tournament
00:11:15and look at it and reflect and think,
00:11:17it could have been and should have been a lot better.
00:11:20Yeah, they've played well.

00:11:24because I look at where we were when he took over
00:11:27and how he's improved us.
