North Ballarat coach Clinton Proctor after his team's BFNL Round 9 win over Sebastopol
Transcript
00:00As I say, looking at that scoreboard, I mean, if you had set a 34-point win, you would have taken that any day of the week, wouldn't you?
00:04Oh, definitely. You know, tough conditions today with the wind. So, yeah, real pleasing performance.
00:10Tell me a little bit about that first quarter in particular. I thought that was pretty much where you won the game.
00:14And they kicked with a four-goal win, and yet you take a lead into quarter time.
00:17Yeah, we've had that a couple of times now. We've seemed to adjust really well to the wind.
00:22I thought we were really organised. We knew exactly what we needed to do in regards to supporting the stoppages.
00:27Just the boys really dialled in there and got the job done, and then able to wrestle some ascendancy.
00:33And then, you know, I challenged them to always have the courage to kick a couple of goals into the breeze.
00:39I think most teams that can score into the breeze normally win the game.
00:42So, yeah, full credit to the boys. They're really good.
00:45I thought you played pretty smart too early in that your positioning, when they did go forward,
00:49you always had that guy at the back for that one that was propensity going to go over the back.
00:52You know, they sort of kicked it to you.
00:53Yeah, I mean, naturally, when it's that type of conditions, you have to be able to protect the back.
00:59So, you know, we had to make sure that we had good support and layers.
01:02And I felt like our wingmen did that really well.
01:05So that, you know, we call it a help site.
01:07So they're really giving us a great support layer down there, which is great for Reggie and young guy, Jacko, as well.
01:12And as you mentioned in there, it did get a bit willing in that third quarter in particular.
01:16But I guess that was probably their frustration because they just couldn't break through.
01:20It seemed that way, yeah.
01:22Like, obviously, it did get a little bit out of hand.
01:24But I felt like, you know, we were reasonably disciplined.
01:27I mean, I'm sure we're at a few moments that football is football.
01:30But, you know, it's not an objective of mine to say that the boys hit anyone off the ball.
01:36So I thought that, yeah, they probably struggled to deal with that a little bit.
01:39And that's when, obviously, you know, the incident happened.
01:41You've played nine games now.
01:43You've played every team once.
01:45What have you made of the competition so far?
01:46You haven't had an easy game yet.
01:47I think one thing I've worked out with North is most games are rivalry games.
01:51So, you know, that's okay.
01:53We just embrace each contest for what it is.
01:56So, yeah, look, you know, we've only got three wins.
01:58So we've still got a lot of work to do.
02:00But it's nice to pinch that one.
02:03And it gives us a chance now to, you know, reset and attack the next night.
02:07You're beating the sides around you.
02:09Now you've got to come up and get a result against the Ballarat and get a result against the back of Sparta.
02:13I mean, a draw and a loss for those two games, for example.
02:16Yeah, 100%.
02:16You know, on the turn, you know, we're going to need to at least, you know, be in those games and close enough.
02:21And, you know, I think, you know, for our boys, we're hopefully setting our sights on one of the top four as well.
02:26I think that, you know, we're capable on our day.
02:29But obviously it comes back to our health, you know, and I guess the boys were putting on the park.
02:34But, look, today we had a really young team in.
02:37You know, Jackson McInerney in his first game.
02:39We've got a young Ruffman playing his third game.
02:42Oscar Soane in his third game.
02:44You know, it was fantastic to see those guys come in and have, you know, really good impact as well, which is exciting.
02:49I'll talk to Rui in a minute, but he helps having the number 27 now swirling through the middle, doesn't he?
02:54There's some quality there.
02:56He's just a really, you know, superb footballer.
02:58His contest works terrific.
03:01You know, he sets good standards.
03:02He's clean, he's tough and he's fit.
03:04So, you know, it's a privilege to have him.
03:06Hopefully we can keep him for a bit longer.
03:08Don't let McInerney know how well he's played, mate.
03:10Yeah, I think, you know, he's on a journey there.
03:11He's been playing a lot on the outside.
03:13So, look, you know, obviously today was a tough contest.
03:16So it wasn't easy to get any run.
03:18But I thought, you know, it suited his game better than well.
