00:00Can't you read the sign? No dogs allowed. Well, tell that to Todd.
00:04Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse, the Deluxe Theatrical Edition, Superman and Crypto.
00:09Both a son of an otherworldly Krypton and planet Earth's small-town Smallville,
00:31the metahuman superhero Superman, a.k.a. Metropolis's daily planet reporter Clark Kent,
00:36must now juggle both jobs and persona while under the most severe attack he's ever faced.
00:41If Lex Luthor has his way, Superman will soon see the last of Earth, and Earthlings will rejoice.
00:47Crypto, a medium-to-large-sized untrained white dog who wears a red cape, similar to Superman's,
00:53Crypto has the strength of a superhero, but the enthusiasm of an oversized puppy, an often dangerous combination.
01:00Beloved by Superman, despite his inability to take commands, Crypto barrels around and pounces on anything and any one,
01:07tail-flipping and tongue-dangling like a goof.
01:10Luckily for you, you're not going to need Crypto to help take Superman home.
01:14In fact, actually, Superman right now is available in stores, as well as the rest of the DC Multiverse Superman movie line.
01:19The Deluxe Theatrical Edition is going to change a few things,
01:23but it seems to be like they're keeping somewhat the same body for David Cornswet's Superman.
01:27As for how tall the figure's going to stand, well, it's pretty much the same.
01:31He's going to stand at 7 inches in height, or 18 centimeters tall.
01:35For Crypto, we'll go ahead and measure him as well.
01:38Crypto, that little spunk, is going to stand at 2 inches in height, or about 5 centimeters tall.
01:44When it comes to the, yeah, molds, they seem to be the same.
01:47In fact, the only thing that I can see that's different between the two is a different head sculpt,
01:51because it has to rely on swappable faceplates.
01:53And that this one, Theatrical Edition, does have a fabric cape.
01:56The regular DC Multiverse version of Superman didn't have one.
01:59He had a plastic cape instead.
02:01One that also got a theatrical edition happened to be Lex Luthor that we've already had a look at.
02:05Granted, though, he didn't come with a super-powered dog.
02:08However, though, he did come include with a baby kaiju.
02:10So, for about a $10 figure more, let's see if the frills are making it worth it.
02:14First, the figure does come include with a display stand.
02:17I don't think it really at all is different from the regular DC Multiverse display stand.
02:20With this also being a deluxe version, they haven't changed at all the DC logo.
02:24It's still branded in black.
02:27The peg does still fit into either one of Superman's boots.
02:29That hasn't changed at all.
02:30We're going to move that off to the side.
02:31What does, however, change, though, is the training card.
02:34Let's just reach off to the side here.
02:36I've got all this stuff in the way.
02:37Let's bring in the original Superman card.
02:39This was the original DC Multiverse Superman that had the plastic cape.
02:43This is now the Theatrical Deluxe version.
02:45Now, looking at this, it does actually look like it would be the front cover with a coloring book of Superman.
02:51In fact, looking at this now, I'm wondering if this will be a page that we'll see in a coloring book.
02:56I'm sure it's one of the many things, merchandise-wise, that James Gunn is going to be plugging the movie with.
03:02Let's bring in also Lex Luthor's card so you can see a very similar style.
03:06Neither one of them have, though, the white border around it.
03:08So, it's one thing, though, that the Theatrical Deluxe versions do a little bit different.
03:11They also have, as well, a Deluxe Theatrical Edition font on the side.
03:16If we look on the back, though, whereas before Lex Luthor's name was N.A., I still don't know what that's all about.
03:22Superman now gets also an additional paragraph down below specifically for Crypto, indicating that this dog doesn't listen at all.
03:29Crypto is kind of the equivalent of a tiny toddler.
03:31If you have a toddler, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
03:34Although, you know, I would say not as strong as Crypto.
03:37But a toddler, I tell you sometimes, when they're having a tantrum, they can get pretty strong.
03:42Sometimes I can't even hold back my toddler.
03:44Anyways, though, those are your trading cards.
03:46X-Luthor, Superman.
03:49Let's put those off to the side.
03:51Should we look at maybe Crypto first?
03:52Okay, we'll look at Crypto first.
03:54Crypto, sad to say, is all just statue.
03:57There's not really much at all you can do with Crypto at all.
03:59He's a cute little scamper, though.
04:01I do like that they've given him, like, an ear up.
04:03So he's always kind of listening, maybe for Superman whistling.
04:07But was I the only one that was cutting onions?
04:09The first teaser that we saw where Superman whistles?
04:12And, of course, we see, like, a dust cloud of snow.
04:15And then, of course, Crypto comes running up.
04:17I must have been cutting onions that day.
04:18But I love Crypto.
04:21Some would have really preferred to have Crypto being the larger breed of dog.
04:24But I actually kind of like the idea that Crypto is more of, like, a little...
04:26What breed is Crypto, really?
04:28Like, kind of like a poodle?
04:29A little smaller Crypto, I think, works a little bit better.
04:31And the fact that this dog never really listens, I think, will add just the right amount of
04:35comedic relief without it sounding cringe.
04:37You can't pull this off with a toddler.
04:39Any small child in a movie just ends up being cringe.
04:42It's usually the worst thing about a movie.
04:44But I think, though, if you swap that out for a cute little dog like this, as annoying
04:48as Crypto may be, in the end, he's still an adorable dog.
04:52What's also adorable is the fact that they've actually given him a fabric cape, down to the
04:56fact that they've even given the Superman logo on the back.
04:58Like, it attaches on the front, so he's got himself the little Superman emblem there.
05:02Yeah, that's a cute little Crypto.
05:03I do wish that there would have been some posability at all.
05:06But I mean, again, like, you know, the fact that this is just an included accessory, I'm
05:10okay.
05:11Crypto, you're okay with me.
05:12Let's move that off.
05:13Actually, you know what?
05:14Move them right over there.
05:15Okay, so for the accessories that come include with this version of Superman, I'm going to
05:19bring back in the hands that were for the original DC Multiverse.
05:22I'm going to bring in now the hands that come include with this release.
05:25They are identical.
05:26Nothing different at all between these hands.
05:28This, granted, could have been an opportunity that they could have been thrown in some other
05:31hands so that if you had this version and you had the version over here, it's just off
05:35to the side of the camera, then you could have, you know, shared around the wealth.
05:39But again, you get yourself still the flight hands.
05:41I guess that's not really a bad thing at all.
05:43Here's where a lot of the changes then are made for this Superman versus this Superman.
05:48And you can then decide for yourself if then spending the extra amount of what, like
05:52$8 to $10 for the theatrical really is justified.
05:55Maybe, well, you don't really even need crypto.
05:58I can't even see why you wouldn't need crypto.
05:59But let's just say you don't need crypto.
06:01You don't need really the fabric cape.
06:03That's about as all that's really going to change outside of Superman's facial expressions.
06:08The bodies seem to be the same.
06:10The heads for the most part are the same.
06:12The thing that's actually different about them is for Superman to now have a swappable
06:15expression.
06:16It means that he doesn't have the seamless look that the original Superman would have had.
06:20He has this cut line right there.
06:23I mean, they've done their best to try to hide that underneath the sideburn and they
06:27succeed.
06:28However, though, right around the area of the ear, there clearly is a line like Superman
06:32has himself a mask.
06:34Essentially, that's really what he is.
06:36From the face, it looks to be like they're the exact same.
06:39I mean, if we could look at the same Zs, it also looks like they're using the same arms,
06:43the same torso, the same emblem, the same trunks, the same boots.
06:46So all those things at least seem to be the same.
06:50I did also mention, though, in the review of this version of Superman that his collar
06:54seemed too low, based at least from what we've seen online.
06:57This Superman still carries over that trend.
07:00So again, it's not really much at all that does change between the two figures.
07:04But here again, here's where the changes are made.
07:07So again, with this face sculpt for Superman, you can peel off this face, as gruesome as
07:12that may then sound, and you can swap it out with a couple of different options.
07:15Now you have this one, which really, to look at the two, there's not much change at all.
07:21One thing that's also interesting, too, is that when you do peel off the faces,
07:25oh, that's so painful to look at Superman peeling off his face.
07:28When you peel off Superman's face, you have to really be careful, and I almost did that.
07:33You have to be really careful of Superman's curl.
07:35That is part of the hair.
07:36So you sort of want to lift the face up and then drop it down.
07:41Does that make sense?
07:42Kind of lift it up, drop it down.
07:44Because this little curl of plastic, that's really all that he has.
07:48Well, again, and it's attached to his hair as well.
07:51This weird-looking kind of Cyclops alien.
07:54Let's do something a little bit different with that.
07:56So again, like if we want to change out the face, kind of just put it underneath the Superman curl.
08:01You know, I really kind of wish, though, that the curl wasn't even there.
08:04I mean, I know that's the thing that really does make Superman.
08:06But it's so much hassle to try to get it around with the face.
08:11So again, when you're plugging in the face, that's one face.
08:15Is it really that much different?
08:16I don't really see much of a difference, to be honest.
08:18So there's that one.
08:20Grab another one here.
08:21There's also this one.
08:23Can you spot a difference?
08:24I really can't.
08:25I mean, with these being so close in faces, I mean, let's just put this guy down here for a second.
08:32Oops, get him to stand.
08:33Okay, well, you know what, just lay him down here for a second.
08:35To look at this face and to look at this face, would it be hard-pressed to look at them and see any difference?
08:41I mean, maybe the coloring of the eyes is about the only thing that I can spot that are different between the two.
08:46I mean, granted, though, when you look at this face, clearly there is a difference between them.
08:50But I think if an opportunity was a given, I mean, to give three faces like this, have a screaming face, a smiling face, something that's different from one to the other.
08:59Because again, like if you're changing out this one now to this, is there anything that's really different other than just maybe the eyes?
09:05Maybe they were trying to give them kind of an x-ray eyes, and that's why this one's a little bit whiter than this one.
09:10But I don't think that the faces are all that much different.
09:13Again, if you want to peel the face off, just kind of lift it carefully.
09:16Watch for that curl of Superman's hair.
09:18I know sooner rather than later.
09:20That's probably going to rip right off.
09:22Then we're going to also take the heat ray eyes.
09:25And basically, what it is, it's just there's a peg there and there's a peg at the top.
09:28That just fits.
09:29I guess you really don't even have to put it underneath the hair.
09:33They allot for enough space, but you're going to clip it every time and just plug it in that way.
09:39It really does look like Superman.
09:42It looks more like he's been, speaking of cutting onions, it looks like Superman's been cutting onions.
09:45I think, really, to give them a heat ray vision eye like this, a screaming face probably would have worked a little bit better.
09:51Because it does seem really like they've used the same face and they've just colored the eyes differently.
09:57Superman, I'm sorry.
09:57I can't look at you like this for the rest of this review with the eyes red like that.
10:02Again, we're just going to peel the face off.
10:04Talk amongst yourselves, by the way, while I'm doing this.
10:07And one last time, we don't need to keep changing these faces.
10:10I think we've all kind of established the idea that the faces aren't really that much different.
10:13And again, we'll just kind of plug that in place.
10:16Is the hair okay?
10:17The hair seems to be okay.
10:19Maybe we'll just kind of fold that down just a little bit.
10:21So while we've maybe established that the faces, having four of them, maybe really wasn't required.
10:27You could then ask yourself, was it really required to have a fabric cape?
10:30Okay, here's where maybe I could say like that's justified.
10:33Looking at a plastic cape and seeing now that so many DC Multiverse figures now have fabric.
10:38I think maybe now seeing a figure like this with a plastic cape feels outdated.
10:43Fabric really is the way to go.
10:45Now you've got, of course, the emblem instead.
10:47Now, whereas the emblem would have just been molded plastic, this one now is actually just a label.
10:52As you can see right there.
10:54I'll tell you the only thing I really don't love about the fabric cape is the way that it's been attached into the collar.
10:58If you look at this one, for example, it's tucked in two places here and over here.
11:04So it fills out the way that it looks like in the film.
11:07This, on the other hand, though, when you get it out of the packaging, the cape is sort of folded back and it's only stuck in this groove area right here.
11:14It's not tucked in on this side.
11:16So it does sort of look like it's awkwardly pegged in place.
11:20Now, one way to work around that is you obviously can bring the cape out and sort of just get it in a way that it looks like it's filling out the shoulder.
11:27Kind of like that.
11:28So it's not as bad.
11:29Being that this is also, it's got a wire that's built onto the side so you can move and change the cape if you want.
11:36You can get it in a flow like this, almost like the wind's kind of blowing it.
11:39So there is something to be said for the fact that you're spending the five, like eight to ten dollars more.
11:45That is, yeah, a little bit different of a Superman from this one to this one.
11:48Even though really, like, again, the bodies are exactly the same.
11:51Changing out the faces could be maybe one of the things that some could like.
11:55I mean, the idea of changing out Superman.
11:56And, I mean, unfortunately, though, again, it gives away everything.
11:59Like, it looks literally like he's just wearing someone else's face.
12:03Again, I don't think really that having three, now what, four faces, I think they really should have changed the expression all honestly.
12:10I mean, like, again, like to look at these, they're not much really, they're not much different at all from one to the other.
12:15A screaming face, again, I said a smiling face probably could have worked as well.
12:18But, again, like, for the rest of the body, it's exactly the same.
12:21It doesn't look at all like they've changed anything.
12:23Like, the paint seems also to be applied the exact same way.
12:27This also being that this is a theatrical edition, a deluxe version, maybe they could have also gone in there to paint some of the panel lines.
12:33Because the original one never had it.
12:35This deluxe version doesn't have it either.
12:37So, while the sculpting is certainly still there, there's no additional paint to kind of read some of those lines.
12:42Now, I think, like, the lines are a little too complicated.
12:44It makes the suit look busy.
12:46Some may prefer that look.
12:47But, again, there's not really a whole lot of paint that expresses and shows those molds off.
12:51Trunks are exactly the same, again, like the boots are exactly the same.
12:54So, we'll kind of look at, though, the accessory, or we'll look at the possibility for now, the deluxe Superman.
12:58Head's going to be, again, on that ball joint.
13:00Not much changes there.
13:01So, the head rotates all the way around.
13:03You can have the head looking down.
13:04In the other review, I did also say, like, his head doesn't go really high up.
13:08And, unfortunately, because, again, the way that the neck's designed, being that, again, it's the exact same body, his head really can't look any higher than this.
13:16That's it.
13:17The head can rock back and forth.
13:18However, though, you can take the arms, rotate them all the way around.
13:21They hinge out comfortably, comfortably at 90 degrees, or that T-pose.
13:27I did notice, though, that this arm on this Superman is a little loose.
13:31This, I actually, you know, looking at this Superman, maybe it was a little loose, too.
13:35Again, it looks maybe like the colors are exactly the same.
13:39Unfortunately, though, with the emblem on, also mine, there's a little bit of either paint or a scratch.
13:44That's a shame.
13:45And, I guess, really, too, you could also, in theory, take the head off this one and replace it with the other one.
13:50The only thing that you're going to be missing now is then the fabric cape.
13:53So, I would probably even say, like, to invest in only just one, probably would maybe go with this one, just because it does have the crypto, it does have the swappable faces, and it does have the fabric cape.
14:04What were we talking about?
14:06We were talking about the poseability.
14:07Okay, so there is a swivel in the bicep.
14:09The figure does also still possess the double hinge in the elbow.
14:13The hands rotate all the way around, whether you want to use this hand or you want to use a couple of swappable hands that he has.
14:19The upper torso, again, is going to be in a ball joint, so you can rotate the torso all really around if you wanted to.
14:25It looks up and down.
14:26Again, you can move it back and forth as well.
14:27The lower abdomen also works the same way, too.
14:31Legs split out.
14:32They go forward.
14:33They go back.
14:34Yeah, all that.
14:34Same stuff.
14:35Same levels of swiveling.
14:37I know, really, again, very little.
14:39But there's a little bit of swivelage at the top of the thigh.
14:42Double hinge on the knee.
14:44There is no articulation, again, for the boots.
14:46There is, however, though, an ankle rocker, an ankle pivot.
14:50Or would that be an ankle pivot up and down?
14:52An ankle rocker back and forth?
14:54Either way.
14:55Either way.
14:55And, of course, the figure does also have still the retained toe articulation.
14:58If I was to be a person that recommends anything, to sign off on this, I would probably say if you only have the budget available to get one figure, there's certainly reasons, I think, to be made as to why you'd want to get the deluxe version.
15:13The deluxe version does benefit from having, again, while it does probably make no sense to have so many faces that look so similar, at least you could say that this Superman does have swappable faces.
15:22And then, on top of that, even if you look at this one and look at this one, I think the faces are painted better on the deluxe version.
15:30Deluxe also gives you a fabric cape, which is probably one of the bigger cells of this, getting that over the original.
15:35And, of course, then the deluxe version also comes included with Crypto.
15:39Crypto doesn't have, sadly, though, any possibility.
15:42But being that he's also just really an accessory, I don't think that's a bad thing at all.
15:47Let's move Crypto in, or move him front and center.
15:49Bring back in, also, the theatrical deluxe version of Lex Luthor, which, by the way, which, by the way, I've done reviews so far on all the two figures on either side.
15:58So, if you haven't yet seen those reviews, go check them out.
16:01Yeah, well, again, it is really just the same Superman body again.
16:05There are, again, some changes made, valid changes, as to why maybe spending the extra $10 or more to get this figure may be more of an investment, yes.
16:14But I think the payoff, though, is that you may get yourself a better-looking Superman.
16:17It does have some problems, which, again, like, with the way that the cape is slotted in place, it doesn't have, really, the way, the more comfortable look that this Superman has.
16:25But I think, all in all, if you were to add up all those things and then sort of subtract the negatives, I think you're still getting a better-looking Superman if you go the deluxe route over the regular.
16:35I wonder if some visine could help to get the red out.
16:37Yeah, having red eyes works okay for Superman in most cases.
16:41Unfortunately, though, while you're giving him a face sculpt that just has a neutral expression, like, really, the other three that he has, red eyes, I don't think work as well.
16:50Personal opinion only.
16:51I do think that it's a nice touch that they include some swappable faces.
16:54With that, though, goes, unfortunately, the trade-off that he has a seam line right underneath his ear.
16:59So, it does look like Superman's wearing a mask, at least from the sides.
17:02From the front, it doesn't look so bad.
17:03For the rest of the body, though, whether you like this look of the costume or not, yeah, I think the costume works okay for the figure.
17:10Whether that will translate, though, to the movie, I'm not going to be one that passes judgment so early without seeing the film.
17:15Although, I guess I kind of passed a little bit of judgment when we looked at the earlier David Cornersweat Superman.
17:21Now, this one does benefit from having, again, that fabric cape.
17:24There's something, though, to be said about having a fabric cape where you can go in there and you can move things around.
17:28You can't do that with plastic.
17:30So, again, one of the positive reasons for why you may want to get this Superman over the others.
17:34This sort of then reminds me of that episode of Full House where Joey and Jesse were sort of, I think, they were taking checkers and they were putting it on the scale,
17:41justifying why they should take the job in advertising or go off alone to start their own business over the other.
17:47And I guess if you were to take the checkers and tally up positives over the negatives,
17:51the positive of this Superman is that he does have the fabric cape.
17:54The positive is that he does have a swappable face.
17:56The positive and the most positive is the figure does also come in clear with crypto.
18:00It does ask maybe the question, did we even really need to get a regular DC multiverse version of Superman,
18:06when really, though, the deluxe theatrical version does everything and then more.
18:12I guess, though, if you're looking at a budget and you're kind of thinking to yourself with those checkers, the red and the black,
18:17do I really need swappable faces?
18:18Okay, I don't.
18:20Do I really need a fabric cape?
18:21Okay, I really don't.
18:22Do I really need to pass on having crypto?
18:24I don't really need a cute crypto, and I would say maybe rethink it.
18:28Maybe put that checker back on the scale.
18:30I like crypto, may not like crypto.
18:33I mean, one thing, though, to get the basic figure or the regular release, you're going to be saving about a $10.
18:38With the difference between the two, the regular version of DC multiverse Superman went back.
18:42I think it cost me about $34.
18:45The deluxe treatment cost me around $45.
18:47I think it works out to be about a $10 difference.
18:49Of course, then I had to pay the shipping on top of that.
18:51Good luck finding out all these figures in the wild.
18:55Have you guys had the chance to pick up any of the new Superman figures from McFarlane Toys?
18:58Let me know down below in the comments section.
19:01Between this one and the regular Superman, let me know which you think is a better buy.
19:06Would you rather have spent the more to get the additional frills that this figure has,
19:10or if you're fine just to spend the regular asking price and get the Superman that has the plastic cape,
19:15without the crypto, without the faceplates, which do you think is a better looking Superman?
19:20If you guys certainly did enjoy this video, do it a solid throw to like.
19:22You guys want to stick around for more?
19:24So, I hope so.
19:25Not only are we wrapping up things, though, for the review, obviously, for Superman,
19:29but we are still going to be looking at the Superman robot,
19:32and we're going to be looking at Metamorpho.
19:34All those reviews will be coming your way, my friends, for the rest of this week.
19:38So, make sure, yes, you're hitting that subscribe,
19:40making sure you're turning on the bell, making sure you're coming back.
19:44Ben, I love that look at the crypto.
19:46As always, guys, thanks for watching.
19:48See you guys next time.
