00:00and welcome back to AccuWeather Early thanks for watching on this Friday morning we appreciate you
00:09being here as summer storms can be disruptful for your pool from heavy rain that dilutes chemicals
00:14to debris here with tips on how to keep your pool clean and safe and ready for summer is Mark Cannon
00:20from the independent pool and spa service association thanks so much for joining us
00:26today sir let's get right into it what happens to a pool when a storm hits and it's uncovered
00:33when it's uncovered I'm telling you it seems everything in the world is going to find its
00:39way into that pool between rain leaves twigs branches even sometimes pool pool furniture
00:47is going to find its way into there but what we need to focus on along with that is how that
00:54affects the chemistry of the pool and how that's going to run also when we're talking possibly
01:00about flooding is there going to be damage to the pool equipment and we need to monitor that also
01:05yeah such a great perspective there all right what steps should people take with their pools
01:10after a storm and why does it matter so much it matters tremendously what you want to do right off
01:17the bat is you're going to have to get that pool cleaned up so uh that means uh using a leaf net
01:23getting leaves out of the pool getting branches there's going to be dust and dirt uh there's going
01:28to be a lot of that debris in there when you do that then it's going to be critical that you're going
01:33to start monitoring your chemical balance in the pool and so use your test strips if that's what you use
01:41or drops and make them going to have to start getting that pool balanced up again also you're
01:47going to it's really important to take care of your pool equipment uh if you have for example a
01:52cartridge filter a lot of dirt in that pool is going to make it to that filter so you're going to want
01:57to get that filter clean so you have proper circulation and that the pool is going to be running properly
02:02maintenance is always important and what maintenance should you have between storms and when should you
02:09call a pro you should uh you need to get into a regular routine of servicing your pool you should
02:18be doing at the same time every week if you're servicing it once a week yourself uh you should be
02:24but be consistent and when you need to call a pool person let's say that you're working on trying to
02:30maintain the balance in your pool but you're just having extreme difficulty and maybe your pool is
02:36turning green with algae that be a time that you want to get a pool professional in there and also
02:41as i had said before you want to maintain your pool equipment making sure that that is if you're not
02:46circulating water in the pool nothing is going to be working properly and if you were if you're not
02:52a handy person enough to fix the pool equipment you need to call a pool professional out to do that
02:58makes me realize how much my dad did to keep our pool in check when kids are just enjoying it that is a
03:03lot a lot of work we appreciate you breaking that down for us and uh hoping to keep people a little
03:08bit safer this summer uh we again appreciate you being here mark cannon from the independent pool and
03:13spa service association and hopefully you have a great summer great thank you
