00:00Simon Cowell wants to ban homework.

00:02Yeah, so Mr X Factor has given an interview, he was talking to a TV channel and he said

00:12look, you know, kids get out of bed at 7 in the morning, they get home from school at

00:165 or 6 in the evening and they have to, according to Simon Cowell, the child that he's responsible

00:23for gets home at 5 or 6 in the evening, they have too much to do, we shouldn't give them

00:27homework.

00:28That's his view.

00:29The other thing that's interesting is he doesn't have a mobile phone and he's saying

00:34I've got concerns about, you know, children getting mobile phones at an early age and his

00:3911-year-old has started using the word phone, can I have a phone, Dad? Simon doesn't have

00:44one, he gave it up a long time ago and he says he feels better for it.

00:47That's because Simon has an assistant who has a phone.

00:51Exactly, I think it's a little bit different when you have to run your own life and you

00:54need to get trains and you need to be able to look at timetables and you need to do your

00:58banking on an app. He has people to do that.

01:01Yeah, they do all that for him. No, I think kids, they do, sometimes there is far too much

01:06homework, I would agree with that, but kids need to be out of the school atmosphere where

01:10they can then reflect on what they've learnt.

01:13But none of us liked to do homework. No, of course not.

01:16Everybody hates it, it's one of those things. But it's tough for the parents as well.

01:20I always felt that it was homework more for me than it was for my child, especially at

01:25primary school. It seemed an awful lot of work for me if he had to build a model or he

01:29had to paint something. This was down to me to sort out. But you do it and you get on

01:34with it because sometimes in life things aren't negotiable and kids need to know that.

01:37It's character building. Yeah, it's character building. Everything is this morning.
