00:46An unknown country has agreed to host former President Rodrigo Duterte if he's granted interim release while his Crimes Against Humanity case is pending with the International Criminal Court.
00:56The June 12 request by Duterte's lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, says,
01:00It may not be the Philippines as Kaufman argued that Duterte will not continue the alleged crimes because he will be residing well outside the geographic scope of the alleged crimes.
01:18ICC Assistant to counsel Cristina Conti says the receiving country is important as it must guarantee that Duterte will appear before the court should he be allowed interim release.
01:29Duterte's camp also claimed there have been talks between the prosecution and the defense about the release.
01:34Kaufman says, quote,
01:34The prosecution has confirmed its non-opposition to interim release.
01:39Conti, meantime, says,
01:40Experts say the Senate remanding the impeachment case of Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives is unconstitutional.
01:52Constitutional law expert and University of the Philippines College of Law professor Dante Gatmaitan says the remanding of the case had no legal basis.
01:59He adds,
02:00It is only the Supreme Court that can determine the constitutionality of the acts of the House of Representatives.
02:06UP law faculty member and constitutional law professor Paulo Tamase, meantime, says,
02:10The Senate's role in the impeachment trial proceedings was to try and decide, and remanding violates constitutional structure.
02:18He says the upper chamber was not supposed to supervise or order the House on what to do in the impeachment case.
02:23The House and Senate are constitutionally equal, even if they have different roles in impeachment.
02:31More than 200 people were killed when an Air India plane bound for London with 242 passengers crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12.
02:42Authorities say this is the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade.
02:46The plane came down in a residential area, hitting a medical college hostel near the airport.
02:51Police say at least one person is known to have survived.
02:55City Police Chief G.S. Malik told Reuters that 204 bodies were recovered from the crash site, including passengers and people killed on the ground.
03:04The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one of the most modern passenger planes.
03:10This was the first crash involving a Dreamliner, which started flying in 2011.
03:14The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board will lead a group of U.S. investigators going to India to help with the investigation.
03:21Boos and cheers met U.S. President Donald Trump when he attended his first production at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
03:30It's the institution he subjected to a conservative takeover earlier this year.
03:35The mixed reaction as Trump and First Lady Melania entered for a performance of Les Miserables on Wednesday, June 11,
03:40showed the heightened emotions unleashed by his overhaul of the Cultural Center.
03:45His visit came just days after he sent the U.S. Marines and the National Guard troops to stop protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids.
03:53Meantime, a U.S. appeals court on Thursday allowed President Trump to maintain his deployment of troops in Los Angeles.
03:59The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decision does not mean that the court will agree with Trump,
04:04but for now, command of the Guard stays with the President.
04:07Earlier on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Charles Bayer in San Francisco ruled that Trump's use of the Guard was illegal.
04:14He ordered the Guard be returned to the control of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who filed the case.
04:21Carlo Acutis, the first Catholic saint of the millennial generation, is set to be canonized on September 7.
04:27Pope Leo XIV announces this Friday, June 13, during a meeting with cardinals to discuss sainthood causes.
04:35Acutis is a British-born Italian boy who died from leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15.
04:40He learned several computer coding languages and developed websites for his parish and the wider church.
04:45He was originally set to be made a saint on April 27, but the event was suspended after the death of Pope Francis.
