00:00Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his legal team have boycotted a court hearing on Thursday.

00:08The decision to boycott came after what İmamoğlu said was an unlawful change in venue at the last minute.

00:14The hearing was originally scheduled to take place in Çalayan Courthouse in central Istanbul,

00:19but was moved to a court in Salivri Prison where the jailed mayor is being held.

00:24The case, which is one of many İmamoğlu is facing, was over comments he made on an expert witness

00:30over the prosecution of other officials from his Republican People's Party.

00:34Prosecutors have requested a two- to four-year prison sentence.

00:38The hearing was adjourned to late September.

00:41İmamoğlu was arrested on the 19th of March alongside other prominent Turkish politicians

00:46as part of an investigation into alleged corruption and links to terror organizations.

00:51His arrest triggered weeks of domestic chaos with nationwide protests the largest Turkey has seen in over a decade.

00:58Hundreds of protesters were arrested in the demonstrations which often turned violent.

01:03İmamoğlu is widely seen as the main political challenger to Erdogan's 22-year rule,

01:08with many viewing his arrest as politically motivated.
