00:00When we were kids, we did promise ourselves an adventure.
00:06I don't think I'll actually come to terms
00:09with what I've been doing until I'm home.
00:15I'm finding that the longer I'm going on this race,
00:18the stronger I feel.
00:21It's just a whirlwind of emotion.
00:24This adventure has been the most uncomfortable adventure
00:27of my life, but it has been the most rewarding.
00:35The closer I'm getting to the finale,
00:37the more competitive I'm getting.
00:40If we add every single thing we've learned together now,
00:43I do think we have a good shot at winning.
00:47People underestimate them, and I think that's one of our superpowers.
00:57I think it's a real style per day.
00:59There will be no special way
01:00to the next level.
01:02The universe is so passionate that we've done,
01:04where the entire world racism is not today.
01:07It comes to society, so many of us.
01:09The universe is so,
01:10one of our superpowers.
01:11For one of our superpowers,
01:13we know it,
01:14and we know that there is this nature.
01:15The ecstasy,
01:16the nature of the universe,
01:17the nature of the universe,
01:18the nature of the universe.
01:19This is the nature of the universe,
01:20the nature of the universe.
01:21The nature of the universe,
01:22and the nature of the universe.
01:23I actually can't believe that we're here
01:30And I actually can't believe that we've turned it around
01:32We're going into legate in first place
01:36We couldn't have asked for a better start
01:38When you open that book at no name
01:43How bad would you want to see that?
01:44Obviously I want to win
01:45The only thing I've wanted this whole time
01:47Is to have that book just empty
01:49Empty
01:49The odds are against us
01:54But if we look at it in reality now
01:56With the money that we've got
01:58It could still be anybody's race
02:00Why can't we catch up 19 hours?
02:03Everybody knows that you can catch up time
02:05Caroline is very competitive
02:11And we're second to them
02:13So we need to be much in their competitiveness, really
02:16Let's win
02:17It's really tight
02:21Now everybody is on the same level
02:24It is literally crunch time
02:26We just need to go, go, go
02:284.44am
02:47Hello, good morning
02:49Good morning
02:50Heading into the eighth and final leg
02:53Caroline and Tom are in pole position
02:55But as they begin the final battle to the finish line
03:00Mere hours separate the top three teams
03:03You ready?
03:06Last one
03:07The finish line
03:09Kanya Kamari
03:11Oh, very exciting
03:14Let's go
03:16Bye
03:16Thank you
03:17This is it
03:19After racing 13,000 kilometres
03:23Just over 1,000 remain
03:26The distance that stands between the teams
03:29And a prize of 20,000 pounds
03:32The finish line
03:34Kanya Kamari
03:36Sits at the southernmost hip of India
03:38Where tourists flock for the sunrise
03:41And the 41 metre Tirovaluva statue stands guard
03:46A profound symbol of Tamil culture and philosophy
03:51To get there
03:53They must traverse the southern states
03:55Where life by the sea has shaped its traditions
03:58From spicy fish curries
04:01To water-bound rituals
04:03The most obvious route to Kanya Kamari
04:07Is down the coast
04:09Following along the coast
04:12May be the most direct route
04:13But competition for tickets is fierce
04:17And whilst travelling inland is a greater distance
04:21Heading via southern India's major cities
04:24Offers regular services
04:26And well-connected highways
04:28I think if we left Pangea and went inland
04:34It does look a little more complicated
04:36Yeah
04:37I think we'd have to overcome a mountainous area
04:40And it just seems to look a lot longer on the map
04:43Whereas I think if we stick coastal route
04:45Shorter mileage
04:46Surely the distance is shorter that way
04:49Then go from Kochi
04:50Yeah
04:51To Kanya Kamari
04:53Yeah
04:54And then win the race
04:55I love that plan
04:57Caroline and Tom's plan
05:00Propel themselves along the coast
05:02To Kochi
05:03In the heart of Kerala
05:05Hello, good morning
05:08We'd like to get a taxi to the station
05:10As soon as possible
05:11Thank you
05:12From our very first leg
05:16We have learnt so much
05:18This is the time for us to leave no stone unturned
05:21Do absolutely everything we can to ensure we come in first
05:25How much to drop us at the train station please
05:281,800 do please
05:291,600
05:30Yeah, okay
05:31Perfect
05:32Okay, perfect
05:32Thank you
05:33Winning would mean everything
05:36For myself
05:37But more for mum
05:38It would mean so much to her
05:39To win
05:40We are looking for a train south
05:43Today
05:43Yes, please
05:44Which comes first?
05:478.15
05:488.15
05:49It leaves today
05:518.15
05:52UDP won
05:53Yes
05:53Let's do UDP
05:54Thank you
05:55Thank you very much
05:56Eager to get moving
05:59Caroline and Tom make a snap decision
06:02To travel to UDP
06:03Nearly 500 kilometres shy of Kochi
06:06We're on the move
06:09I think this is probably our best chance
06:11I am feeling very relieved that we have a lead
06:14It gives us a slight buffer zone
06:16We're on the move
06:17But we're not covering a massive distance
06:20Which another team could do
06:22The thought of waiting around
06:24It is absolutely awful
06:25To me
06:25I think you've done good
06:27Really, really good
06:29Departing just under seven hours
06:32After their arrivals
06:33Get the correct transport
06:37Make the right decisions
06:38Because, you know
06:38Tom and Caroline
06:39They had a head to start
06:40So we need to catch up with it
06:42Elizabeth and Leticia
06:44I think the coastal route
06:46Seems to be
06:47Less in terms of kilometres
06:48I think, though
06:49That the inland route
06:51May have better roads
06:52Better connections
06:53Because of the bigger cities
06:55Yeah, I feel ready
06:56To get to Kaniakamari
06:59Game on
07:00The sisters' first step to reach the finish line
07:04Head inland to the state's cultural capital of Mysuru
07:08What time is the bus to my store?
07:134.45
07:14Is it a sleeper?
07:15Yes, sleeper
07:16Okay
07:17I'm like, yeah, motivation
07:22Let's go
07:23We can do this
07:24Let's just try our best
07:26And our best will just get us there
07:29On route
07:32With a night train
07:33Bus
07:34Bus
07:35Also making their departure
07:38I'm nervous
07:40Finn and Sean Ed
07:41The finish line is
07:44Kaniakamari
07:45A tantalising
07:46A tantalising 54 minutes
07:48Behind the sisters
07:49That's the last time
07:50We're opening an envelope
07:51It's not going to be straightforward
07:52It's going to be a hard leg, I think
07:55Thank you very much
07:56Thank you so much
07:57Thank you
07:58Bye
07:58Here we go
08:00We've got this
08:03We've just got to plan it well
08:05The major cities like Bangalore seems quite big
08:07We really need to use that to our advantage
08:10Ask as many people as we can
08:12Get as much information as we can
08:13I don't think anything else really matters
08:15This leg now
08:16Other than just focusing on speed
08:18There's no room for mistakes, really
08:20Do you speak English?
08:23Do you know any buses going to Bangalore?
08:26What's he saying?
08:28Is he...
08:28I meant to follow him
08:29Okay, we're going
08:31Where are we?
08:34Oh, I'm going
08:35This feels, um, dodgy
08:39I mean, that bus doesn't look functionable
08:41We're following this
08:48And I think he's taking us to get bus tickets
08:50I'm not really sure
08:53Ah, tourists
08:55Ask me, I'm a tourist
08:58Yes, thank you
09:01Thank you very much
09:01Thank you so much
09:03Bungalore
09:04Bungalore, yes
09:05As soon as possible today
09:07Heading inland
09:11They stick to their proven strategy
09:13Staying close to major cities
09:15With strong transport links
09:16Sticker, thank you so much
09:20Thank you very much
09:21I think my competitiveness
09:23Is kind of ranked up a notch
09:25I think I'm a lot more competitive
09:27If he doesn't win
09:28He doesn't want to be too disappointed
09:29Whereas I'll just be disappointed
09:31For probably a few years
09:33And then I'll get over it
09:35300 kilometres south
09:39Caroline and Tom are approaching their destination
09:41Udupi
09:43Thomas?
09:44Hmm
09:44Thomas?
09:45Yes
09:45I hate to tell you
09:46But we're only a few minutes away
09:48Thomas?
09:49Okay
09:49Okay
09:50I avoid ever having to wake him up
09:53Because it's normally really unpleasant
09:54Sometimes I've even taken him in
09:56A hot cup of tea or a bacon sandwich
09:58And I leave it beside him
09:59Tell him I've done it
10:00And then just run
10:01It's been beautiful scenery
10:04Jungle, very, very marshland and wetlands
10:07And some beautiful water buffalo
10:09With their symbiotic birds
10:12Beautiful
10:13Good
10:14The coastal city is flanked on one side
10:19By the Western Ghats
10:21And on the other
10:22The Arabian Sea
10:24We're in Udupi
10:25But these natural barriers
10:28Can limit onward transport options
10:30Excuse me, sir
10:31Hi
10:31Do you have two minutes
10:32Just to help us, please?
10:33Oh, thank you so much
10:34Um, we need to get to Kochi
10:37Kochi
10:37Do you know if the train
10:38Is one of the fastest ways
10:40To get there?
10:41One minute
10:41Oh, thank you for looking
10:42There are multiple dreams
10:46But there are all seats
10:47Available right now
10:48Oh
10:48No tickets
10:50No
10:50A bit of a kick in the teeth
10:53Do you know if there's buses tomorrow?
10:56Tomorrow
10:56There is an AC sleeper
10:585.25
10:59That's a 5.25
11:00In the afternoon
11:01My worry is
11:03It's not exactly race mode for me
11:05Physically nothing else we can do
11:07And I will sleep well tonight
11:09If we know those books
11:10Would it be okay if you could help us
11:12And book two tickets?
11:14Yeah
11:15For the bus
11:15Thank you so much
11:16Tomorrow night
11:17An overnight bus will take Caroline and Tom
11:20500 kilometres south
11:21To the Carolyn city of Kochi
11:24But not till tomorrow night
11:27Meaning a delay in Udupi
11:29With our bus not being in till tomorrow afternoon
11:32I'm quite worried about having Elizabeth and Leticia on our tail
11:36And Finn and Sean that are only about 45 minutes behind them
11:39I think they're both breathing down our neck
11:41Oh this looks quite fancy doesn't it
11:48It's even got a door
11:49Oh
11:50Oh
11:50Oh
11:51All right
11:55Setting off from Goa
12:00So now it's race, race, race
12:03Elizabeth and Leticia board an overnight bus to Mysuru
12:06We'll be waking up in a completely different city
12:09While Finn and Sean Ed also opt for sleeper travel
12:14Bound for Bengaluru
12:16Tom and Caroline did have a head start
12:18They may have spent this day going as far as they can
12:22If that's the case they will be further than us
12:25We're going hundreds of kilometres tonight
12:28We just need to get that extra little push to win
12:30I think we can do it
12:32Finn and Sean Ed are just an hour behind
12:35So we do need to keep that lead ahead of them
12:39This leg is now on average
12:40Do you know what I mean?
12:45What we've got now is we've got the opportunity
12:48To catch a load of hours up
12:50Like just bombing it south
12:52Trailing the leaders by 17 hours
12:54Brian and Melvin hope to kickstart their comeback
12:58If we go inland Melvin we're going to probably lose it again
13:02We're just going to waste our time
13:03It's about getting there as quick as possible
13:04It is
13:05We both still want to win
13:06Yes
13:06We both still want to win this
13:07And we've got a chance
13:08We have got to get as far south as we can
13:10And if it's a taxi then
13:12That's what it's going to be
13:13And if we run out of money
13:14Then we run out of money
13:15We need to get it bought
13:16The earlier we do it
13:17The sooner we're on our way
13:18Okay
13:19All right
13:19Due to cost effective travel across India
13:24All of the teams have been able to preserve funds for the final leg
13:28How far south can you take us?
13:31Mangalore
13:32Mangalore
13:32Yeah
13:33Mangalore is 350 kilometres
13:35It's fine
13:35We'll go
13:36Get the car
13:37Go to Mangalore
13:38Yeah
13:38For Brian and Melvin
13:40Spending nearly 40% of the remaining cash on a taxi to Mangalore
13:45It's a crucial boost
13:47Right
13:49Good
13:49So you think we'll get there about 6 o'clock in the morning?
13:54Yeah
13:54Okay
13:55We're only going to be there for a quick cup of tea
13:57Wash under your armpits and carry on
13:59We've got half a chance there of
14:01Catching some time
14:04Yeah
14:04Winning the race would be absolutely brilliant
14:08What an achievement to do that with your brother
14:10If Tom and Caroline aren't hundreds of kilometres in front of them
14:14Then they're doing something wrong, aren't they?
14:16They just need a bit of bad luck and one missed connection
14:19And we can catch up
14:22We'll catch up
14:23If we won
14:25And I could see Melvin's face
14:27It would be fantastic
14:30Yeah, money can't buy that
14:32That would be brilliant
14:33Whilst three teams race through the night
14:37Caroline and Tom are the only pair at a standstill
14:41Gets us to where we're going
14:43Well, it does
14:44It gets us bloody close to it
15:00On the outskirts of Udupi
15:06The Jumadi Islands
15:08An archipelago situated in the delta of the Ceta and Suverna rivers
15:14Attracting rare bird species
15:17Including the black-backed dwarf Kingfisher
15:21Look at those two
15:23Seriously
15:23Wait, wait, wait
15:24Yellowy green
15:25Oh, yeah
15:25They look like lemon and lime parrots
15:27So this is like a little water safari
15:31It is, yeah
15:32It's turned out to be a little bird-watching exhibition
15:35It's brilliant
15:36Still waiting for their bus to depart
15:41Caroline and Tom
15:43It's the calm before the storm, Thomas
15:46Because it's bound to get so manic later
15:49That was lovely
15:58India delivers
16:01Pretty cool
16:01Just amazing
16:03I thought I'd be too old to travel
16:08And experience what I've done
16:10Because you always hear about the young travelling and backpacking
16:12And yet I now realise that I can be just as capable and quick
16:17It doesn't have to slow you down
16:19You've kind of been tied down for 20 years
16:22And now all of a sudden
16:23You can go and do whatever you like
16:27I can now
16:27I was frightened of
16:28And this is being quite serious
16:30Possibly one day being lonely
16:31Yeah
16:32And just drifting my time until then
16:35Without a purpose
16:36Yeah, yeah
16:37It's been quite sad to hear that you felt like you'd lost a bit of purpose
16:42We never really spoke about it, you know
16:44Yeah, that's true
16:44Sometimes it's difficult to reveal yourself to your child
16:48As a person rather than just their parent
16:51Yes, yeah, I know
16:52It could possibly be awkward or a bit embarrassing
16:54I now view you as more of a friend as well as a mother
16:59Where I think before you were very much a mother figure in the household
17:04It's enabled me to see you in a different light
17:07Oh, I'm so pleased
17:08Travelling with you has been probably the best experience of my life
17:15Oh, that's really nice to hear
17:17It really has
17:18It has been great
17:20I think we both helped each other out
17:22A lot more than we could actually ever imagine
17:27I wrote that in my journal
17:30And I wrote something else in my journal
17:31I kind of want to read to you
17:33Well, sit, let me go grab it
17:34I'm actually going to read it
17:43Because I'm sure you laugh at the spelling mistakes
17:45Oh, I love them
17:46Right, this was a note to self
17:48On leg six when we were at the carpet place
17:50I keep having a feeling that me and mum will win
17:55But I think we already have
17:56Just remember how lucky you are to be travelling the world
18:01Seeing the best things you couldn't even dream of
18:04With your mother and having the best time ever
18:06Remember how well me and mum got on
18:10How fun she is
18:11And just how much you love her
18:13I appreciate these times and these memories
18:17Because there will be a time that I can't
18:20This to me is winning
18:22No amount of money can make me realise all of this
18:24It was absolutely lovely, thank you
18:30It's okay
18:31I'm feeling very valued and very lucky
18:38And totally loved by Thomas
18:41My son reintroduced me to the world
18:45And given me the second chance of life
18:47When I thought that might have passed me by
18:49Right
18:51We've had a lovely time
18:52I think it's back into race mode now
18:54Definitely
18:55What a lovely thing for a young man
18:58To be able to express and write down
19:02350 kilometres east
19:07It's very tired
19:09Oh
19:10Oh
19:11Oh
19:12Oh
19:14Oh
19:15Stop, let's go
19:15Bangaluru
19:20Celebrated as the garden city of India
19:23Home to one of the largest flower markets in Asia
19:27We need a bus
19:29Madurai
19:30Madurai
19:31Madurai, yeah
19:32Today
19:32Yeah, today
19:33Ah, wow
19:35Okay, that's good
19:35Ken and Sean Ed are looking to secure bus tickets to hurtle them 400 kilometres south to Madurai
19:42In the Tamil region of India
19:44Our last training session before the big day
19:47Run, Sean Ed, run
19:49The bus is until five, so we have a couple hours to kill
19:53So I think we're going to explore the city
19:55And enjoy the last few days we have on the race
19:57Mmm, that hummus is good
20:00It's good
20:01It's the nicest Joe set part
20:04But here we are
20:07Nearly at the final
20:09I'm actually having a whale of a time
20:11Both a lot stronger than we initially thought we were
20:15We can rely on each other, depend on each other
20:18Yeah
20:19This race has kind of done a lot for us without us kind of realising
20:22You've still been strong through it all
20:26Still been very resilient
20:29Appreciate it
20:34Appreciate everything
20:35Don't
20:38I'm not going to cry
20:39I'm not crying in a dumpster place
20:44It's been a journey and a path
20:48It has
20:49It definitely has
20:51This race has shown sides that we may have not seen
20:57For the both of us, I'd say
20:58Wow
21:00Look at the flowers
21:02Wow, it's a lot of flowers
21:04Shoya's always been there for me
21:07She gets up in the night and has my diabetes
21:10She's very understanding
21:11She cares a lot
21:13So what do they do with them? Just decorations and stuff
21:16Wedding item
21:17Wedding item?
21:18She get matching ones, matching flowers
21:21Aw, yay!
21:22No neck things
21:24You never ask for stuff like that
21:26Can we have it around our neck?
21:30Thank you
21:32And you get a bracelet as well
21:34Oh yeah
21:35Oh my gosh
21:37Yeah, yeah
21:39We've watched each other go up really
21:42We're like best friends and boyfriend and girlfriend
21:45Thank you
21:46Aw, we could get married now
21:47Um...
21:49We can walk over the finish line, come in first with them on
21:54We can wear our flowers first
21:56Yeah
21:56I think life for Ashland would be quite boring
22:00It would be quite dull
22:01I feel very, very lucky
22:04I feel very fortunate to have met Ashland
22:06So we get on here
22:14Which is the first class?
22:17First class
22:18After a seven hour journey through the night
22:23Brian and Melvin have pulled ahead of the race leaders
22:26And look to be extending their lead by train
22:29To the coastal city of Corricode
22:32See, that's quite pretty, isn't it?
22:37Yeah, it's nice, isn't it?
22:38They have croconals, it's far south
22:40Kerala
22:44Believed by some to mean land of coconut trees
22:48A tropical state
22:50With a labyrinth of lagoons, backwaters and canals
22:54Dotting its waters are its Ketuvalum boats
22:58Once used to transport rice and spices
23:02Now transformed into floating hotels
23:05It is slotted into place, isn't it?
23:08We got straight out of the cab
23:10Within two hours we've got a train
23:13Which we're now on
23:15There's that little glimmer saying, well, you could do it
23:17You might
23:17You might do it
23:18You're from England
23:21We're going to Cozy Cody
23:24Cozy Cody is known as a food city
23:27Food city
23:29Food city?
23:30Yeah, yeah
23:30Tomorrow we're going to Cochy
23:33Train is there, good one

23:42Just see me
23:43One train is there

23:47It will reach for evening 5.30
23:50Thank you for helping us
23:53Melvin
23:54Melvin
23:55Brian
23:55Brian
23:56Brian
23:56What's your name?
23:57Mansu
23:57Mansu
23:58Before you
23:59UK
24:00Yeah
24:01We're all in India
24:02Remembering
24:03No
24:03I don't remember
24:04Yeah, we don't remember it
24:06How old are we are?
24:07If I could apologise, I would
24:09Season 20, this system
24:11Train system
24:12Train system
24:13Beginning world
24:14This system you gave
24:15Did we do it?
24:16No
24:17After 13 hours on a bus
24:23So this bus station
24:26How long?
24:29Five minutes
24:30Okay, five minutes
24:31Can we get a bus to Madurai from here?
24:35Yeah, yeah
24:37Okay, perfect
24:38Elizabeth and Leticia are approaching Mysuru
24:41All our hard work has led up to this
24:45Like all the night buses we've taken
24:47All the sleeper trains we've taken
24:49Like it's all worth it
24:50For the win
24:52Sharing the win together
24:56That would just be
24:57The cherry on the top
25:00Can we also get the bags?
25:06We need our bags
25:08Unaware that their lead has slept
25:16Caroline and Tom are trying to locate their pre-booked bus to Kochi
25:20Bus operator name, Kalada Travels
25:25Let's go over there, I think
25:26Let's go over there
25:27I don't know how we get there
25:28Oh, God, back to the chaos
25:30God, we mustn't be late
25:33Yeah, I know
25:34We've got to find it, honestly
25:36Let's leave a bus here
25:37Where?
25:38Right there
25:38Yeah, but that's not the one we've got
25:40Do you speak English?
25:42Where do we get the sleeper bus to Kochi?
25:46Over there
25:46Thank you very much
25:47Thomas, come on
25:49Is it here?
25:50Oh, shit, man, look at
25:50Yeah, the bus
25:53Well done
25:54I've got the ticket
25:57Oh, have you got it?
26:00I'm just nervous
26:01It's horrible
26:02My mind just can't rest
26:04There's been a lot of time since
26:06We arrived here yesterday
26:08Yeah
26:08And we're only leaving now
26:10I know that's given enough time for Elizabeth and Leticia, Finn and Seanud
26:14And even potentially Brian and Melvin to even go past us
26:18Because we didn't travel that much distance
26:20As the pair forge ahead again
26:23So where do the buses come?
26:26I can do generally
26:27Just here?
26:28Yeah
26:28Okay
26:28Finn and Seanud are trying to escape Bengaluru
26:32The second largest city in India
26:35I think this is right
26:37Are you sure?
26:38I think so
26:39I'm wondering if this bus is here
26:42This is actually here, actually
26:44Yeah
26:45So the bus comes here
26:46Yeah
26:46Oh, what a relief
26:47Do you know where there's a shop that sells, like, chips?
26:51Just a moment
26:52Thank you
26:53Thank you
26:53Thank you
26:53Thank you
26:54Thank you
26:54Thank you
26:55Thank you
26:56He really wants to help
26:57He's very eager to help, isn't he?
26:59Yeah
26:59Bless him
27:00Oh, he's boring
27:11Oh, my gosh
27:12Oh, thank you so much
27:15You didn't need to do that
27:16How much did we owe you?
27:18No, no, no, no
27:18Are you sure?
27:19No, no
27:19Thank you so much
27:21I just wanted to have a ride to you
27:22Oh, thank you so much
27:24You've been so helpful
27:24You're a very kind person
27:26Thank you so much
27:27I have been to lots of places, OK?
27:29Yes
27:29Where sometimes you get help
27:31Yeah
27:31Sometimes you don't know the language
27:32Yes, exactly
27:33Very tough
27:34Yeah
27:34What's your name?
27:35My name is Clinton
27:36When I was born, ex-president of America, Bill Clinton, was there
27:40Oh, wow
27:41That's the reason
27:41You gave your names after him
27:43All the rest
27:44Thank you so, so much
27:45Thank you so much
27:46Have fun
27:47Yes, thank you
27:48Have a good evening
27:49Stomp it
27:51Oh, he's got bananas as well
27:53Oreos
27:54Oh
27:55Oh, bless him
27:57That's actually
27:57That's the nicest thing someone's actually probably done for us
28:01Is this us?
28:05Yeah
28:05Yeah
28:05All good
28:05Thank you
28:06Thank you
28:07Look at that
28:09No dust at all
28:10This is so bougie
28:12What a good sleep of us to end it on
28:14I think I've settled with India now
28:19The amount of time we've spent here
28:22I think I've really adapted
28:24The amount of different people you come across in these places
28:27It's a cool country
28:29There's a lot more to this country that meets the ire
28:32That's exactly what I wanted
28:34To get out of travelling and out of this experience
28:38Look where I am now
28:40About to finish the race first
28:42In India, I thought I'd have to go home because I was struggling so much
28:46As the couple take their second consecutive night bus
28:50Here's a tuk-tuk
28:53Are you a tuk-tuk?
28:55You're available
28:56One team take a break from the road in Coricode
29:0040 rupees
29:0140 rupees
29:02Thank you
29:03A prosperous trading hub for nearly two millennia
29:12It's known as the City of Spices
29:14You can see how much cash we've actually got, yeah
29:18For Brian and Melvin
29:20Who have travelled 600 kilometres non-stop from Panagi
29:24A chance to take stock
29:2615, 16, 17, 18
29:2924,841
29:31So I've got 20 for the running
29:321, 2, 3, 4, 800 and a bit
29:35For Grub and Beer
29:37Money isn't going to matter about chasing the leaders
29:40We can't do any more than what we've done, can we?
29:44No
29:44So money is irrelevant
29:46The unknown on this leg
29:50If we could create more time, we would
29:53If we could turn back time
29:55That's what we want to do
29:56It's Tina Turner, isn't it?
29:57No, it was a chair
29:59Was it chair?
30:00A chair
30:00Melv, hungry?
30:03Yeah, I think it's Tom
30:04Beer, biryani, naan bread
30:06Go for it
30:08That's it, we're gone
30:09Can you get off my bed, by the way?
30:12Because this is mine tonight
30:13There's yours
30:15We've done everything that we can
30:20In order to pre-put the leaderboard
30:24We are now relying on everybody else to cock up
30:27We're going to get a mess
30:28We will do everything we can
30:30Would you want to have chai or South Indian coffee?
30:42Chai, please
30:44Yes, please
30:45Ground down by a 13-hour overnight bus to Mysuru
30:50Elizabeth and Letitia have found a bed for the night
30:54And a homestay run by Sarchin
30:56I can see that a lot of your
30:59Is from your travel
31:00Yeah
31:01Sarika is the one who picks all of these up
31:03I love it
31:04She's the one who decorates the house
31:06I just live here
31:09So all the rooms are booked by a wedding party
31:16Have you attended an Indian wedding in the UK?
31:19We haven't attended any Indian wedding
31:22Just like a night or a couple of nights before the wedding
31:25They have something called Sangeet
31:27Sangeet literally translates to music in Hindi
31:30Okay
31:31So it's like the bride and her friends
31:34And the groom and his friends
31:35They put up a show, dance and stuff like that
31:38It's not a South Indian tradition
31:39But because of the movies
31:41It's become so popular that even South Indians have started
31:44Have adopted it, yeah
31:46If you're up for it
31:47I'll check with the family if they're cool
31:49With you guys coming in
31:50Oh, lovely
31:51Yes, please
31:53Gosh, this is our dream
31:58We've got to dress up as well
32:00So, Sarika
32:01Look at this
32:04Lovely
32:05The earlier we get ready
32:07The better
32:07Chop, chop
32:09How long do we have?
32:11Like 15 minutes?
32:13You're in a race, right?
32:15It's ugly
32:16An Indian wedding typically lasts three days
32:23The highest number of guests ever recorded
32:26150,000
32:28According to Hindu faith
32:31Once a couple is married
32:32They are bound to each other for seven lifetimes
32:36Thank you
32:47Thank you so much
32:49Wow, he's really going for it
32:52The hips
32:53Love it
32:55They seem so welcoming
32:56How can, you know
32:57People come to the wedding
32:59That's how it is
33:00There are people who just go to weddings
33:02Even if they don't know anyone
33:04And they're going to show up
33:05And then
33:05Yeah
33:05But the food is
33:06No
33:06He's done it
33:08I've done it
33:10But
33:10It's not common
33:11Wow, wow, wow
33:15This is definitely topping off
33:17The end of the race
33:19In India
33:20I just love how he's having such a good time
33:22He's like
33:23He's loving it
33:24He's giving the energy
33:26Oh
33:26At the beginning of race
33:30I feel like me and my sister's relationship was strained
33:34Let me take a picture of you
33:36Oh, this looks so good on you
33:38I feel like how we were when we were kids
33:44We've become more comfortable in each other's presence
33:46So I feel like the race has definitely allowed us to
33:49Make time for each other
33:50Hi, ladies
33:51This is a great spot
33:53Yeah
33:53You look very

34:19And I'm seeing Leticia
34:20For who she is now
34:22And not thinking of her
34:23As like a little
34:24Seven year old girl
34:25Anymore
34:25Oh
34:26Oh
34:27Oh

34:41Of opening up
34:43Bye
34:44Bye bye
34:45Bye bye
34:45Bye bye
34:45We know we're there for each other
34:48And I feel like
34:49Like
34:49It's part of our story
34:51It's something we've done together
34:52And we'll remember it forever
34:54Woo
34:55Woo
34:55Hello mate
35:10Two for coaching please
35:11There you go
35:12Thank you
35:13Simple wasn't it that
35:16hmm 250. after spending the night in corrie code brian and melvin have booked an afternoon
35:23train to kochi but first time to dip their feet in the indian ocean
35:31oh that's all right isn't it that's nice yeah
35:39a picture you want to take a picture of us yeah that's good
35:43he's printing them now look thank you thank you it's actually not a bad little photograph is it
35:51really and the photo is not bad it's actually quite a good photo we're 62 65 years of age
35:58and we're back to wait this long and we've needed something like this to say come on
36:03let's go and do this let's go and have that adventure we've always talked about you keep
36:07that photo now i will mate get a nice frame for it i'm good if you had a pound then no you need
36:14something decent i do believe that we've grown closer because we've done a lot of things together
36:20again as we did when we were kiddies i don't think i'm going to need a therapist we're not
36:24going to pick up the phone and talk your bride have you got any photos at your house at all no none at
36:28all got nothing no photos up at all of anyone no no no no no no no no so why don't you frame that
36:35one and we'll take that one and that's the first photo i will be from growing up as kids and then we
36:43went our separate ways and so we started our life together and then at the back end of our lives
36:50we're back together again it's it's pretty special indeed feels nice doesn't it we have got a train
36:57to catch let's go let's go onwards yeah oh it's so colorful look at those flowers hanging up there
37:06caroline and tom's long-awaited 11-hour overnight bus has put them back in contention that's remind
37:13me a little bit of europe with the quaint streets cobble pavements it's lovely meaning they're the first to
37:19arrive in kochi the jewel of kerala a collision of cultures where a 450 year old synagogue stands
37:34beside mosques and christian churches and katakali dancers perform in the courtyards look at that
37:42that is massive on the shoreline medieval chinese fishing nets brought to the malabar coast by traders
37:51from the east cantilever over the shallows oh it's literally done by stones look at that anything in
38:00the net this is like being a pirate of the caribbean feels like we're walking the plank i know i know
38:08yeah do you do this every day every day early morning with nine o'clock chatting okay and two
38:15echoes finishing it's very efficient only lacking oh oh can can i pull it all right oh no way this trip
38:25on on a more personal note for me has been eye-opening whoa stones coming in wow look at that that was
38:34incredible watching the stones come down i came out of school very confused and quite quite scared of
38:41the future i was taught you had to be good at school to do well in life wow wow that's like see-through
38:55it's given me just a bit of confidence to know that even though i'm i'm not necessarily book smart
39:00you can learn so much about yourself and about the real world by just throwing yourself out there
39:05it's coming back up it's coming back up look what's the stones oh it's so cool like like stumbling
39:12along stuff like cool stuff like this yeah 75 kilometers north we've got to leave kochi tonight
39:24ryan and melvin are in hot pursuit there's a crane at 12 13 no tickets there are many taxi operators
39:33how is that we've got about 15 000 rupees so we could do that 300 kilometers to the east elizabeth
39:41and letitia are on their way to madurai hopefully you know fin and sean had haven't caught up
39:47or brian and melvin their last major transport hub before the finish line i feel like as soon as we
39:55get on that transport to checkpoint all the nerves will come you know it is very emotional it's just
40:00like um closing this chapter i guess already there hey i get to have three my handy name sean had you
40:12why for your name uh finn finn and sean had squeeze in a final souvenir from madurai how does it all start
40:21off with your name she's getting her name oh that's not she's not gonna be happy about that oh bless i feel
40:32so bad that's gone kind of wrong oh thanks for showing how much you love me you wrote your name
40:41and my name in your hand oh that's really nice finn and sean thank you thank you very much
40:51the plan is now to go pick up our bags and book our final transport of the race
40:58i'm sorry but i couldn't think of anything worse than having finished yeah all right this is all for me
41:04as the landmass of india narrows so does the race with all four teams closing in on each other and the
41:15finish line in kochi can you tell us where to go to book a sleeper bus please caroline and tom are
41:24raring to get on the move not in the whole of coaching no no buses
41:35i think we should just consider a private taxi the whole way
41:39okay well my only concern is we found out it's about 340 kilometers
41:44and would that not be just too long for one driver all the way we've got the budget and we've always
41:52said we want to we don't want to finish with budget we want to finish first so let's do that well let's
41:57look at that then i'm happy to i think now we just need to find something that keeps us moving
42:03while they search for a driver willing to take them to kanya kumari 266 kilometers east in madurai
42:11spin spin spin just to push ourselves to the um checkpoint elizabeth and leticia are adopting a
42:25similar strategy we would like to go to kanya kumari oh yeah kanya kumari you can take us to kanya kumari
42:32the other side of town finn and sean ed we need to get to kanya kumari do you think it's possible to
42:38book us a taxi there i'll try but i don't know about the charges slipping okay yeah if you could
42:44get the price first that'd be great so at what time you want the taxi like right right now as
42:50possible yeah as soon as you can it takes about half an hour okay okay yes perfect could you could
42:59you tell him um it's a race and we need to get there as quickly as possible yeah we're in kochi the only way
43:07that we will be able to catch up on the leaders will be to use the rupees that we've got left
43:15and throw it throw it at it that's all right that's all right it's a big one no it's a diesel and it's
43:22diesel right then let's let's get in and let's get out and move on this is our last chance you know to
43:30come first let's go go go kanya kumari formula one driver today still got a chance of getting in
43:37first please can't go here it's it's really important that we we listen to each other communicate
