Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi spoke with reporters on Thursday about the removal of Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) from a press briefing held by Sec. Kristi Noem.
Transcript
00:00Heather, I associate myself with your remarks, and we already add that this assault on Senator Padilla today was an assault on freedom of speech in our country.
00:10These thugs who manhandled the senator probably don't know it's a federal offense to attack a member of Congress.
00:21But that's not what it's about. It shouldn't be anybody in our country to be treated this way.
00:26So when we speak out for Senator Padilla, we're speaking out for everyone who has a right to speak.
00:33How about it? It goes to a Trump administration press conference, seeks clarification, and gets thrown to the ground by thugs.
00:46This is just absolutely wrong. Just absolutely wrong.
00:50We want everyone to know that we see it wrong not just for a senator or a member of Congress, but for every person in our country.
00:58I'm so glad that our delegation, which is so strong, 343 Democrats strong in California out of 52, stand in solidarity with Senator Padilla.
01:10But stand in solidarity with everyone who wants to ask a question of our government about their safety.
01:18I yield back.
