06:45Thank you, Trent Alexander-Arnold, for joining Real Madrid.
06:52Welcome to your new home.
06:56A very warm welcome from Florentino Perez.
07:00Nine trophies with Liverpool.
07:04Winner of the Premier League in his final season at his boyhood club.
07:09And now joining Real Madrid for the next six seasons.
07:14Good afternoon.
07:23Thank you, Florentino Perez, and the club for this opportunity.
07:30This doesn't happen every day.
07:36It's a dream come true.
07:38I'm very happy and proud to be here.
07:42I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play.
07:52I do realize I'm signing for Real Madrid.
07:56The demands are high, but I'm going to give my all for the team and Real Madrid fans.
08:02I want to show those fans how I play.
08:12I want to win many titles.
08:14I want to be a winner here and enjoy playing alongside the best players in the world and Real Madrid.
08:21Real Madrid.
08:22Wow.
08:23I was not expecting that, Joe.
08:24Impressive.
08:25Yeah.
08:26I mean, I think it was a shock to both of us when we saw him speaking in Spanish.
08:33He's clearly had this on his mind for a couple of years now.
08:35Wow.
08:36Smiles there, I think, and everyone's faces, Trent, marvelling those watching in very good
08:44Spanish, addressing those in attendance here and those watching at home.
08:47Well, we've got a quick family photo posing with Florentino Perez, and then, of course,
08:51we're joined by his partner, his parents, and his brothers, and shortly do join us for
08:56the press conference.
08:57Now, I'm not too sure if I'm going to be translating that press conference or not, Joe.
09:02Yeah, I'm not too sure either, but very impressive.
09:05So, I mean, I think this shows what it means to him to play for this club.
09:09He's clearly had this on his mind.
09:10It's like Kylian Mbappe.
09:11Kylian Mbappe showed up on his first day.
09:12Excellent Spanish.
09:13Excellent Spanish.
09:13And also, it means a lot for Real Madrid fans to hear Trent speaking in Spanish.
09:17Join us shortly for the press conference.
09:29Director of Institutional Relations and Trent, Alexander Arnold, who,
09:35spoke in perfect Spanish during his presentation.
09:40Very proud that you're joining Real Madrid.
09:45Proud to see you wearing the Real Madrid jersey.
09:48Outstanding career.
09:49And we're confident that there's going to be plenty of success down the line.
10:04Welcome, Trent, to Real Madrid.
10:06We welcome you to this press conference.
10:15We can do questions in English.
10:16Just identify with the name of the company that you represent.
10:19And remember, that is one question per intervention.
10:21How excited are you ahead of this new chapter?
10:36Yeah, very, very exciting for me.
10:48A day that I've been waiting for a long time now.
10:53Very excited, very happy, very proud to be here.
10:55And, yeah, it's a dream to be here.
11:01But, you know, there's still a lot of hard work to do.
11:04And I'm excited to get started straight away.
11:06It's an exciting time for me.
11:07Long, distinguished career at Liverpool.
11:22Now, joining Real Madrid, they came calling.
11:26Did you have to think a lot about making the decision to move?
11:29And why now?
11:29No, I think, obviously, to clear that up, by waiting a long time, I mean, you know, a couple of weeks, not years.
11:46But, no, like I said, I'm very excited to be here.
11:52You know, whether you support the club or not, you have to respect the trophies that it wins.
12:00You have to respect the history of it.
12:03So, no matter what, that was always there for me.
12:06I've always admired players, clubs, teams that win trophies.
12:11Grew up watching this club win three Champions Leagues in a row.
12:17And two before that as well.
12:19So, you know, I'm no stranger to seeing Real Madrid win trophies.
12:24And, yeah, a big reason why I joined is to be a part of that amazing history that club's got.
12:29Be a part of the success going forward.
12:32Joining an exciting young team with a lot of potential that, you know, has the mindset to go and win trophies.
12:41So, I'm very excited to get started.
12:44And, you know, we go straight to America for the Club World Cup.
12:49And our ambition there is to go and win that trophy as well.
12:52So, we're looking to, well, I'm looking to have a great start.
12:57You celebrated that Champions League title in 2005.
13:14Cherry Alonso was playing for Liverpool.
13:16Have you spoken to Cherry Alonso?
13:18And what does he expect from you?
13:19Yeah, like you said, I grew up, you know, a Liverpool fan.
13:33Being able to see Istanbul with the manager now, doing amazing things there, in part of an incredible final.
13:39And, yeah, I've spoke to him.
13:42We've spoke a little bit.
13:44It's good to have that communication.
13:46It's also good to speak to him.
13:48I told him that he was a big idol of mine growing up.
13:51So, to be able to work with him now is a dream come true for me.
13:56Someone who, you know, probably impacted my game a lot growing up, seeing him pass a ball.
14:02I explained this to him as well.
14:04Watching him pass a ball, seeing it influenced me to be able to go and train harder at that
14:09and have, you know, a great kind of hunger to be able to do that and to set standards.
14:18So, I was able to speak to him about that.
14:21Of course, we haven't formally met yet.
14:23I haven't been able to have a proper chat, I'm sure, over the next few days, weeks.
14:27We'll be able to speak properly and be able to talk about how it looks, what you expect from me.
14:33You know, it's not just me who's new here.
14:38He's a new manager.
14:40He's got to get his ideas across to the whole team.
14:42So, it might take some time, but he's shown how amazing he is managerial-wise and as a player.
14:50So, his knowledge of football is there in abundance and I'm excited.
14:55I'll be a sponge around him trying to soak up all the information that I can and learn from him.
14:58Hi, Trent. Hello. Here. I will try in English.
15:05I'm Anton Meana from Cadena Serradio.
15:08I want to know what is your opinion about Dani Carvajal.
15:11Carvajal.
15:12That's just my opinion.
15:13I think fantastic player.
15:16First and foremost, fantastic player.
15:19Won so many trophies.
15:20Been a part of very, very successful teams.
15:24Nothing but respect for what he's achieved so far in terms of club and country.
15:31Achieving so much.
15:33You don't do that without a lot of talent, a lot of hard work.
15:38So, yeah.
15:39A lot of respect for what he's achieved.
15:40We heard Bellingham's name mentioned during the presentation.
15:54You are good friends.
15:56You've obviously talked about Real Madrid.
15:57Yeah, we spoke.
16:03I mean, it wasn't exactly what, I guess, people think it was.
16:07But, yeah, we spoke.
16:09We spoke a lot about Liverpool.
16:11We spoke a lot about Madrid.
16:15That's the kind of conversation you have as players, as friends.
16:20You want to know what it's like, of course.
16:23At national team, he's the only player that, you know, knew what it was like to be at Real Madrid.
16:30So, everyone was asking questions.
16:33Yeah, I think, yeah, a lot of people think he played a huge part in me coming here.
16:40But, to be honest, the club speaks for itself.
16:45It was a huge opportunity for me.
16:47It felt like it was the right time for me as well.
16:49So, it was a chance for me to go and do that.
16:53No, I think, if I'm honest, it's something that, you know,
17:22it's not something that you dream of because it's almost out of reach and out of reality for a lot of players.
17:31There's only a select handful of English players to have played for the club and to represent it.
17:36So, to be a part of that is something that's very exciting for me.
17:41But, at that time, when I was younger, yeah, about 10, 11 years ago now, I wasn't exactly thinking about being here today.
17:49I was just focused on being, you know, learning and being as good a footballer as I could be.
17:55So, to be here today is a dream for me.
17:58It's something that's very, very special.
18:00I don't take it for granted.
18:03And I'm very happy.
18:07Hi, Trent.
18:07Vinny from Sky Sports.
18:09And well done on the Spanish, by the way.
18:10How long have you been learning?
18:11A few months.
18:12A few months.
18:13We saw your emotions on the final day of the season with Liverpool.
18:17How do you contrast them with the emotions that you're going through today?
18:21And also, as you've spoken about wanting to win the Ballon d'Or in the past,
18:25how much was that a motivating factor in your decision to come here?
18:29And is that the ultimate ambition for you?
18:31Or is it all about La Liga and winning Champions League as well?
18:35Well, I think, no, I don't think it influenced my decision to come here at all, to be honest.
18:44I think, you know, you join in a club like this with the teammates that I've now joined,
18:48it's going to be quite hard to win a Ballon d'Or with the amount of superstars we've got on this team.
18:55But no, it's exciting.
18:56It's the kind of players I want to play with.
18:58I've admired them.
18:58I've played against them.
18:59I know how good they are.
19:00So to be a part of the team and to be playing with them rather than against them will be good.
19:09And also, yeah, switching on the contrast of emotions, of course, two different ends of the scale, you know.
19:18Being at Liverpool for so long, being there, experiencing everything I did and what I had was incredible.
19:26Knowing that it was coming to an end is obviously, you know,
19:29it was always going to be emotional for me.
19:32But, you know, I felt like I went out in a way that I am happy about, to be honest.
19:38The send-off that I got, the way the club treated me, the way the fans were as well was outstanding.
19:45I couldn't say a bad word.
19:46Also, being, you know, speaking to the players, obviously the players, the manager, the owners, they were all incredible as well.
19:56Showed a lot of support.
19:59It was a huge help.
20:01We had an amazing conversation in the last couple of days with the owners.
20:05They were very warm and welcoming.
20:09Thanked me for everything I gave in service to the club.
20:12Wished me well on my future journey and what I wanted to do and said I'll always be welcome back at the club at any point.
20:19So, you know, to feel that kind of, to have those words spoken from the club is amazing.
20:27Like I said, sent off in the perfect way.
20:29And then now to be here, to face a new challenge, facing something new, a new journey for me is equally as exciting.
20:37Very, very excited.
20:39Over the moon to be here.
20:40Absolutely over the moon.
20:42Something that, you know, not many players get to experience.
20:45And so, I'm very lucky and I'm very proud to be here.
20:59In a week's time, Roger's first game at the Club World Cup.
21:03Could you start?
21:04And if so, where would you like to play?
21:06Further forward, at midfield or at the back?
21:13I think for me, I just want to play.
21:14That's the main thing.
21:16To be able to play for Real Madrid is a fantastic honour and an achievement in itself.
21:20So, you know, wherever.
21:22But, you know, that comes down to the manager.
21:25First of all, I've got to train well.
21:27I've got to, you know, show what I can do.
21:29I've got to, you know, perform.
21:31And if given the chance to start next week, then I'll go out there and try and do that.
21:35But, you know, first and foremost, I'm here.
21:38I'm enjoying today.
21:39It's been an amazing day for me, my family, friends, everyone who supported me on this journey.
21:46It's been amazing.
21:46And then, yeah, the work starts tomorrow for me.
21:49And I'm excited to get that started.
21:52You said before that, obviously, when you're young, you don't even imagine this because it's kind of beyond your comprehension.
22:03It's not something you start to think about.
22:05As a player, at what point do you start thinking that maybe the very, very, very biggest clubs in the world could be interested?
22:11And what's that process like of making a decision?
22:15You mentioned that Jude didn't influence you, but presumably you're speaking to parents, to former players, to players you're with at the moment.
22:21What things are you balancing up to try and decide in the end where to go?
22:26I mean, to be honest, I mean, you said at the end where to go.
22:34It was never a question of where.
22:35It was whether to go or not to go.
22:39But I always knew for me, if I think I've probably known it for a long time, is that if I was to ever leave Liverpool, it would only be to go to Real Madrid.
22:54That would be the only club for me.
22:56And then, you know, it gets to a point where you've got to make a decision whether to go or to stay.
23:03And, you know, making that decision, it wasn't an easy decision.
23:10I'm not going to say it was easy because I've been there so long, been a part of it.
23:15But eventually, you know, you have to make a decision.
23:22And in my mind, I've made the right one.
23:23And it's one that I'm very excited about.
23:26You come from another historic club, Liverpool.
23:39But any differences between these two clubs, although you've only been here for a very short period of time?
23:44Has it exceeded your expectations of Real Madrid?
23:52Dean Howson said it was really impressive to see the trophy room when he first arrived here.
23:56Yeah, I think, like you said, I'm fortunate enough to have played for the biggest team in England and now the biggest team in Spain.
24:10So both teams have massive histories, won a lot of trophies and dominated their leagues at times.
24:21So to have that honour of being able to represent both of them, there's a lot of similarities.
24:30You know, you're expected to win.
24:32You're expected to be able to win trophies and to perform week in, week out.
24:36So that doesn't change.
24:37I think obviously the weather's a big change.
24:41But, no, to be honest, football is football.
24:46Like I said, being at Liverpool, I was expected to win trophies and did that.
24:50Here will be no different.
24:52We are, as a team, expected to win trophies.
24:54That's a demand.
24:55The fans are used to it.
24:57So that's what we have to deliver.
24:59So the hard work starts tomorrow to go and deliver that.
25:04Buenas tardes, Trent.
25:05Sergio López.
25:06Hablando de cambios, uno de los principales cambios que se ha visto en tu llegada es el de la camiseta.
25:11Your jersey, the name on the back, has changed.
25:18You decided to go with Trent.
25:22Why?
25:22Yeah, quite an easy explanation for that, to be honest.
25:29I've always found when I travel to Europe, the whole name situation confuses a lot of people.
25:35As there being three names and a double-barreled and Alexander-Arnold.
25:39People call me Arnold, people call me Alexander, people call me Alex, people call me Trent.
25:44There's a lot that goes on.
25:45So I just thought, let's make it simple, let's make it easy.
25:49Trent on the back, be known as Trent.
25:52That's my name.
25:53So that's what I guess people will call me.
25:56Hello, Trent, Luis from El Mundo.
26:04I want to ask you about the strikers of Real Madrid.
26:07You're playing against them, against Mbappé and Vinicius.
26:10How's it going to be for you playing with them?
26:13The assists that you can give them and how's it going to be like training with them too?
26:17Thanks.
26:19Yeah, I think, like I said earlier, I'm much happier now playing with them than against them.
26:26Top, top players, world-class players.
26:31These are the types of players that you want to play against and play with.
26:37Training with them every day will make me a better player.
26:39So I'm excited to do that.
26:40And then also to be able to play with them on weekends and playing big games with them is very exciting for me.
26:48I'm sure we'll strike up a good connection as I'll try to do with the whole team
26:53and get that chemistry going as soon as I can.
26:56But now hopefully I'm able to replicate what I was able to do at Liverpool here
27:01and give many, many assists.
27:03You said it was a lovely farewell, goodbye at Liverpool, especially your chat with the owners.
27:24You've now had a conversation with Florentino Parathur, aren't you, President?
27:29What has he said to you behind closed doors?
27:33Like you said, the President, to have won so many European Cups, to have been so successful
27:43and to see how much the club has grown under its guidance has been amazing.
27:48So, yeah, I think first and foremost, a massive thank you to him for giving me this opportunity to join, you know, this fantastic football club.
27:57I'm very proud and honoured to be here.
27:59And, yeah, with his support and belief, I feel like we can go and win many, many trophies together.
28:06I think, yeah, he was happy with the Spanish that I was able to speak, which I think surprised a lot of people.
28:17But I think, for me, it was important to be able to do that and it shows the intent that I've got is to come here
28:24and have a good start, to get off on the right foot and achieve things straight away, starting with the Club World Cup.
28:37You talked about that final, Istanbul.
28:43You were six years old.
28:44Liverpool beat AC Milan.
28:47What's your first memory of Real Madrid?
29:01I'd say for a long time, to be honest.
29:03I think I remember David Beckham playing there.
29:08I remember that being a massive thing.
29:13I also then remember, you know, Cristiano joining.
29:16And then seeing the way he was welcomed at the club, that was different to anything I'd ever seen before.
29:23So, you know, I was still young then.
29:26But seeing, you know, probably the best player in the world at the time join the club like he did and be as successful as he did.
29:33And then the amount of trophies that came after that and the players that joined and the success that they had, you know, from then on.
29:39And there was a statement in my mind of Real Madrid is a very successful football club.
29:44So, they demand success and they do it consistently, so that's, you know, the memory I had of Real Madrid going up.
29:51Do you think there's a chance that you'll be better appreciated in a Spanish football culture than maybe you were in England?
30:04Lots of criticism about defending.
30:06This is the club of Marcelo.
30:08This is the club of Roberto Carlos.
30:10Do you think that's something that's maybe going to help you in these next six years?
30:14The way that defenders are seen as players who also produce things in an offensive sense, perhaps a little bit more?
30:23Not something I've really thought about, if I'm honest.
30:28I think, look, I do as I'm told under the managers that I've played under.
30:36The two Liverpool managers that I've had asked of, you know, different things of me.
30:42And I try my best to produce that.
30:48Like you said, I think you said, will I be appreciated more in this football environment?
30:56Look, I don't know.
30:59Whether I am or not appreciated by fans or people of that country, then it doesn't really bother me that much.
31:08Because all that matters to me is that I help my teammates, I help the team win games, win trophies.
31:15And be the best version of me that I can be on a daily basis.
31:18So that's all I can do.
31:20If people don't like the way I play or don't appreciate the way I play, then, you know, it is what it is.
31:27As long as the manager appreciates what I do and plays me, then I'm happy with whatever.
31:33Set-piece, specialist at Liverpool, would you like to have a similar role at Real Madrid?
31:45Yeah, of course.
31:59I think I want to be important every moment on a football pitch.
32:03I think that's the mentality that you've got to have as a football player.
32:06I think you've got to think that you're always part of the game.
32:12You can't switch off.
32:13You've got to influence it in whatever way you can with the ball, without the ball.
32:17You know, set-pieces.
32:20You've got to be ready to help your team win in whatever that looks like.
32:24If that means playing more defensive, then that's what it takes.
32:27And if it means, you know, doing things with the ball and playing passes and, you know, creating things for the team, then that's what it takes.
32:35But whatever the game needs, I think everyone needs to be willing to commit to it and play the way that the game needs to be played in order to win.
32:44Ultima dos preguntas.
32:45Last two questions.
32:46Hi, Trent.
32:47It's Shisha from Zoom Media.
32:49You talked about it was a difficult decision, obviously, to leave Liverpool.
32:54Was it harder to leave the club for the football side of it?
32:58You've been there since you were six.
33:01Or was it harder because of the emotional connection you had, you know, being a lad from Liverpool, living your dream, playing for your local club?
33:09Thank you.
33:11I think both.
33:13I think they kind of tie into each other.
33:14The reason is because I've been there for so long.
33:17I always enjoy playing football there.
33:20Loved every single minute of it.
33:22Achieved everything I wanted to.
33:24The club gave me the opportunity to go and achieve all my dreams.
33:28And I'll forever be in death to the club for that.
33:34But, yeah, I thought it was the right moment for me.
33:36Being there 20 years, achieving everything that I wanted to.
33:41Being the age I am, I feel like I'm, you know, mature, ready,
33:46experience to go and, to go and be successful somewhere else.
33:51And, you know, this opportunity came up and it's one that you've got to seriously think about.
33:57And that's what I did and came to the decision that it's the right thing to do.
34:00The last question, last question.
34:03The last question.
34:03Here, Trent.
34:04What's up?
34:05Welcome to Lola Hernandez, Fox Sports Mexico.
34:07Besides Bellingham, have you been able to talk with any other teammates apart from Drew Bellingham?
34:14About you moving to Real Madrid?
34:17Yeah, I spoke to Dean a few weeks back.
34:23We've seen each other on holidays.
34:27But other than that, no, you know, it's kind of only just been announced.
34:32It's only just been formalized.
34:34So I think I'll meet the majority of players tomorrow in training and be able to, you know, to speak to them then.
34:42So I'm excited for that.
34:43I'm very excited to be here.
34:44It's something that, you know, I'm still pinching myself about because it's a dream.
34:53And I'm, yeah, I'm proud to be here.
34:55I'm excited to get started and hopefully get off on the right foot by winning a trophy.
35:03Muchas gracias.
35:03That's all from Trent's first press conference as a Real Madrid footballer.
