00:00Striking a triumphant tone, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the deal is done.
00:07Posting on his social media platform True Social, Trump said that Beijing had agreed to relax curbs on rare earth minerals.
00:17Now, that was a crucial issue for U.S. negotiators as the U.S. needs those resources for everything from mobile phone manufacturing to computer manufacturing to electric vehicles.
00:32And American manufacturers had been feeling the pinch.
00:36Another issue now supposedly resolved is that of Chinese students studying in the U.S.
00:43Now, a couple of weeks ago, Washington had said that you Chinese students could have their visas revoked if they had links to the Chinese Communist Party or if they were engaging in critical research.
00:56And that was very concerning for the more than a quarter of a million students that thought they could be impacted by this.
01:02That measure is no longer going ahead.
01:05Trump went on to say that he has an excellent relationship with China.
01:10Quite the contrast to during the negotiations when he said that negotiating with Beijing is difficult.
01:19Now, all of this is part of a temporary truce.
01:24And what happens after that 90-day trade truce expires on the 10th of August, we don't know yet.
01:32And all of the focus at the moment and all of the discussions at the moment have been about resolving and enforcing this temporary truce.
01:41Nothing about the long-term ceasefire to the trade war.
