00:00Days of severe weather bring a major flash flood threat. That's going to be tonight's top story.
00:04Damaging wind and hail will also make for another wet weekend across the south-central U.S.
00:08And meanwhile, storms return to the north-central U.S. as well as we reach the second half of the week.
00:13You can look for damaging wind gusts in Minnesota and Iowa.
00:16We're also going to continue to monitor hazy skies from those Canadian wildfires.
00:20We'll have more on that coming up in just a moment.
00:22But first, let's go and take a live look at Shreveport, Louisiana.
00:24This is one of those areas, Jeff, where not really much of a severe threat going on right now,
00:28but we are watching for some heavier rain to develop across this region.
00:33So overall, I was going to say, go ahead.
00:35No, I was going to say it's been very, very wet here.
00:36Every time we look at this camera, the roads are still perpetually wet.
00:39It hasn't been just coming and going.
00:41Yes, we are going to be watching out for some heavier rainfall.
00:43Now, the one thing I'll point out here across the southern plains in the southeast, at least,
00:47is that, yes, we don't have any ongoing severe thunderstorm warnings.
00:50Earlier this afternoon, we had five separate flash flood warnings.
00:54Four of those have since been allowed to expire.
00:56We still have this one isolated flash flood warning in effect for the far eastern Texas,
01:01the western Louisiana state line region right there up to the north.
01:04So we'll be watching out for that trend.
01:06But overall, you can see these showers and storms are still slowly lifting their way to the north.
01:10So as we take a closer look, we had one severe thunderstorm warning previously.
01:13That storm has since been allowed to expire.
01:15And as you look at the overall lightning intensity here for these storms,
01:18lightning intensity is normally a good gauge of just how strong a thunderstorm is.
01:23So the more lightning it produces, the stronger the storm is.
01:27And lightning intensity is also something you can watch for a trend on if a storm is intensifying
01:32or if it's showing signs of weakening.
01:35So you can see that overall, for some of these storms,
01:37the overall trend is that some of these storms are starting to see their intensity come up,
01:42which means that we could see a few isolated severe thunderstorm warnings,
01:45a few severe thunderstorms warned here as we go forward, including this storm right here.
01:51We also have these storms right here in northern parts of Louisiana.
01:54If we do see any severe thunderstorm warnings,
01:56it's going to be one of those three storms right there that we'll be tracking.
01:59Also, this storm here off to the south off the coast, that one's packing a pretty good punch,
02:02but it looks like that storm's intensity will come down some here as it works its way onshore.
02:07So this is going to be an ongoing developing situation here across this region.
02:10So once again, you can see that for a lot of these areas,
02:13the overall intensity of the storms has come down,
02:16but we are still going to be watching out for some flooding rainfall.
02:18As a matter of fact, the storm that we have here south of I-20,
02:21this storm right here that's moving just over Abilene right there that just developed over the last hour,
02:26that one's been raining so much that we now have a flash flood warning in effect for the Abilene area.
02:31So we'll be watching out for this trend as we go forward.
02:33But overall, here's you look at the overall scope of severe weather as we head into tonight.
02:38This is going to include a majority of the I-35 corridor from the Red River
02:41all the way down through the Rio Grande here for us, Jeff.
02:44Dallas, Waco, Austin, San Antonio, all these areas will be watching out for heavy rainfall,
02:49possibly flooding rainfall here as we head into tonight.
02:51And by tomorrow morning, we're going to see some heavy rainfall in Houston as well.
02:54We're going to see some heavy rainfall in Houston as well.
