00:00The hit streaming series, and just like that,
00:03is back for a brand new season of bringing
00:07in the summer heat to New York City.
00:09Take a look.
00:11There's nothing like summer in New York City,
00:16with its hot days and even hotter nights.
00:22Have you heard anything from Amy?
00:24Yeah, I got a postcard today.
00:25Well, what did he write?
00:27Nothing.
00:27Oh.
00:28Blank postcards gets an all?
00:30Well, not an over the top all, but it's better than nothing.
00:36I really like her, but it's a work contact.
00:39It's OK to have a work crush, right?
00:41Yeah.
00:43But my angst, do I really want to be starting over?
00:46Not interested.
00:48We can choose to embrace a new chapter.
00:52Please welcome Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nexton,
00:56Kristen Davis, Nicole LaRocca, and Serena Chowdhury.
01:48Could we just use our time?
01:50Yeah.
01:51Maybe.
01:52Yeah.
01:52Maybe.
01:54So, Sarah has the first question.
01:56Yeah, well, the first season of And Just Like That premiered in December 2021, which is 11 years after your second movie and almost 18 years after the Sex and the City finale.
02:07So, I want to ask the OG.
02:08Is this a math problem?
02:10I hope you're taking notes.
02:12Much slower.
02:14So, for the OGs, what was it like to be back at that first table reading, getting back into Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte?
02:21It was fantastic.
02:23It was one of the best days of our lives, I think.
02:24Yeah.
02:24Oh, wow.
02:25It really was.
02:26It was deeply sentimental, happy, joyful, sort of unbelievable.
02:33Amazing, amazing.
02:34And then we had the addition of these exquisite, talented, skilled women.
02:40So, it was pretty extraordinary.
02:41Was it a surprise?
02:42It was pretty extraordinary.
02:43Was it a surprise that you had so much fun at the reconnection?
02:47No.
02:48I don't think it was.
02:49I think we knew it was going to be fun, but I think we didn't know it was going to be that fun.
02:53Yeah, I also think it was, you know, you all have been working together for a really long time, and you sort of make assumptions about the friendship, and what it means, and it's present.
03:08And then you all have to go on and do other things, and you sort of are in touch, but then you're back in the room with people with whom you share pretty singular experiences and memories, and I think it, so I think it became tender as well.
03:23Like, it was very special.
03:27Well, I, we were sent the first six episodes of the new season.
03:32I binged them immediately.
03:34Very special.
03:35It is absolutely fantastic.
03:36Sarita and Nicole, you're both incredible actors who've done such great work, and there you were, about to become part of the legacy, right, of Sex and the City, which you both have done, in my view, very seamlessly.
03:51Nicole as Lisa Todd Wexley, a.k.a. LTW, and Sarita as Seema Patel.
03:58What went through your minds when you were starting this?
04:02When we were asked to join?
04:03Yeah.
04:04Fear, um, because when you're, when a show is part of your life, you have no business walking into it.
04:15And, um, but the read-through was so great.
04:20I think once we realized we can wrangle the props, and the shoes, and everyone was so lovely.
04:27The clothing is incredible.
04:28Incredible, but also, you know, pinned, and it's not, I can't bend.
04:35I'm an athlete now.
04:38And once I got good at that, now I'm having a ball.
04:42Wow.
04:42You know, I'm a, I'm a city girl.
04:44I'm a cool cat.
04:45I can hang.
04:46I could not hang.
04:47When I saw these faces, I was like, oh my God.
04:51But she pulled it off seamlessly.
04:53Seamlessly.
04:54I think the first thing I said to you, she was so sweet.
04:56I was in the trailer, five in the morning.
04:58She came over, said hello, and I was like, we both have three names.
05:04Oh my God.
05:05That hadn't occurred to me.
05:06So Sex and the City premiered June 6, 1998, around the time that The View started, actually.
05:12Yeah.
05:13I think that was, this was a year later, maybe.
05:15A few days later, after the premiere, Sarah Jessica was on The View to talk about it.
05:20Let's watch the clip.
05:21All right.
05:21Oh, this is smart and funny and sophisticated show about this city and these, and particular
05:26women in this city.
05:27And I think it's, it's been very true to what these original columns in the New York Observer
05:31were.
05:32Look at that.
05:34Look at that.
05:36It's kind of weird, isn't it, to see yourself so many years ago.
05:40I stand by that.
05:42It's curious to me that my hands are still doing the talking.
05:46But you have said that you weren't sure about taking on a TV series.
05:50What made you say yes, then?
05:52Well, I, I was very excited about the pilot.
05:54I thought it was special and unique and, and particular.
05:58Yeah.
05:58Um, I think when it came time to actually commit to the series is when I, I think I was
06:04just simply concerned about losing a kind of liberty that I thought I had in my career.
06:08I, my destiny, I thought I wanted to be a journeyman actor.
06:12I wanted to do a play, a movie.
06:13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:14And so I thought that.
06:15Well, you had done all that, too.
06:16I had, and, um, what's happening, ladies?
06:18She taught me what journeyman actor is.
06:20Oh!
06:20Every time she talks about her, she sees so much like, journeyman.
06:23Nice!
06:24We wanted to try to get to do it all, and I, and I had been, and I didn't know that
06:29television would allow that necessarily, and, but HBO was its own breed and boutique, and
06:35they said, yeah, of course you'll do that, and went to work the first day, never looked
06:40back.
06:41It is remarkable how groundbreaking it was at the time.
06:42Um, Charlotte, I want to ask you, I just said Charlotte.
06:45I want to ask you, I want to ask you about your podcast that we all love, Are You a Charlotte?
06:57You brought up this, it's kind of been a topic that Golden Girls has compared, as often
07:01compared to Sex in the City because the women are in their 50s and 60s, but they're so different,
07:06and what do you think it means that the way we view women now in their 50s and 60s is so
07:11drastically different than, you know, 30 years ago?
07:14Well, thank goodness it is, you know, I didn't realize, I feel like Cynthia, did you tell
07:19me when you came on the podcast that that was the age of the Golden Girls?
07:22Right, I mean, I guess they were a little older, but like Rue McClanahan was like 52.
07:27In reality, they were younger, but they were plain older, but they were younger.
07:32There just wasn't a really valid and or a vibrant, alive picture of women in their 50s and now
07:4060s, because we're continuing on, right, of like their lives continuing and the different
07:45things that happen and the choices that you still have and the fact that things aren't
07:49done. You know, it's like ever evolving as is life. And that's one of the reasons that
07:53we wanted to come back and do the show and Just Like That was to be able to really just
07:58bring to life this time in women's lives.
08:01Which is a great time.
08:03Yes, and it should be on television and in movies. It should be. So I'm really thrilled
08:08to be doing it and the fact that we continue to do it and we get to continue on with all
08:12of our stories is just such a blessing and I really thank our fans for sticking with us
08:17through all this.
08:18Yeah.
