00:00When an Indian goes abroad, there are two things he definitely carries within.

00:04One is pickle, the other is caste.

00:05When we had the first few waves of migrants crossing over to the US and Canada,

00:11they were mostly upper caste people from India.

00:13Now since the last 20 years or so, 20, 30 years,

00:16a lot of the so-called lower caste students and professionals also started moving over to the US.

00:22So what happened was that Indians went there and carried caste even to those offshore destinations.

00:29Pickle in the luggage and caste in the mind.

00:31So they have now pushed legislation there and they have said that caste is now an acknowledged form of discrimination.

00:38And a lot of Indians were quite unhappy at that.

00:40The fact is, Indians indeed do carry caste wherever they go.

00:44And that caste discrimination, that caste consciousness had started showing up even in North America.
