00:00There will always be imperfections in any movie, sometimes plot holes, loose ends or
00:05general issues with the story that don't quite make sense, and this is where the audience's
00:10disbelief needs to be appropriately suspended. This can be difficult however when a character
00:15just disappears without a trace, it happens more often than you think, but what about
00:20over the last 5 years? So let's dive in, as I'm Adam from WhatCulture and here are
00:258 recent movie characters that just disappeared.
00:288. The Underminer, Incredibles 2 There have been a handful of franchises within
00:33the realms of Pixar that have seen something of a revival after many, many years. Toy
00:38Story 3 came out 11 years after Toy Story 2, there were 12 and 13 years between Monsters
00:44Inc and Monsters U, and Finding Nemo and Finding Dory respectively, and joining this list is
00:50The Incredibles. 14 years after the original movie cut short the titular family's fight
00:55with The Underminer, Incredibles 2 picked up exactly where the narrative left off. Tony
01:00Ridinger was in the custody of Rick Dicker, and told of the fight that had ensued.
01:04In 2003, The Underminer only appeared at the end of The Incredibles after having nothing to
01:10do with the overall story. He was there as something of a tease for the family fighting together
01:14as a proper superhero team, and in a similar way, he was only involved in the sequel at
01:20the very start, again having nothing to do with the overall main story. The villain got
01:25away from The Incredibles at the start of the sequel, making off with immeasurable amounts
01:29of money, but because of the collateral damage and the supers in general, no one seemed to care.
01:35He was forgotten about, and no one was particularly interested in tracking him down or bringing him
01:40to justice.
01:417. Efficient Man, Glass Onion
01:44As a sequel to Rian Johnson's incredibly popular Knives Out from 2019, with the exception
01:49of Benoit Blanc, Glass Onion boasted a completely different cast. Marta Cabrera and The Thrombris
01:55were replaced with Miles Braun and his disruptor friends, though the deliciousness of the mystery
02:00remained throughout. Though Miles Braun himself was supposedly one of the world's smartest
02:05billionaires, he was in fact an idiot with enough money to pay intelligent people to earn
02:10his reputation for him. He then simply sat back and enjoyed his own private island and
02:14the Mona Lisa on hire without ever really breaking a sweat. One such thing his money paid for
02:19was seemingly a hassle 3 covid vaccination. The characters were all able to remove their
02:24masks and go about their daily lives as normal after a quick spray from Ethan Hawke's character,
02:30known simply in the credits as Efficient Man. Because it was an actor as big as Ethan Hawke,
02:35it was surprising that Efficient Man had no further role to play in the movie. He literally
02:39showed up, vaccinated everyone with no context as to exactly who he was, and then was never
02:45heard of or seen again.
02:476. The Detachable Kid, The Suicide Squad
02:50The cast of The Suicide Squad was so ridiculous in size that it seemed impossible to fit everyone
02:55into one movie. It all made sense by the end of the first few scenes, however, when half
03:00of the titular team were gunned down on Corto Maltese. The likes of Captain Boomerang, Blackguard,
03:06and more bit the dust serving as a distraction to allow Bloodsport's true Task Force X onto the
03:13island. It seemed as though Weasel died during the chaotic opening, but the post-credits scene saw
03:18him simply get up and walk away. But what about The Detachable Kid, aka TDK? Nathan Fillion's
03:24character may have had a crap power and a crap way of using it, but he actually didn't die on that
03:29beach like most of the team did. While slapping and pawing at the Corto Maltese soldiers, TDK's
03:35arms were shot to hell, leaving him writhing in pain on the floor. However, the opening credit
03:41sequence that followed confirmed that TDK wasn't actually dead, but was instead in critical
03:46condition. So, what happened to him? Was he ever extracted off the beach or was he left there to die
03:52by the heartless and ruthless Amanda Waller? Weasel survived and will reprise his role in
03:57Creature Commandos, so did James Gunn keep TDK alive with the intention of bringing him back?
04:045. Kingo Eternals
04:07This entry is slightly different from the rest in that the character at least announced that
04:11he was disappearing. While everyone else just went without so much as a goodbye, Kingo actually
04:16let everyone know what he was doing, and even returned to the screen before the end of Eternals.
04:21All that being said, however, he undoubtedly still disappeared, and at a key point in the
04:26movie. Icarus had been revealed as the villain, and he and Sprite were about to go toe to toe
04:31with the rest of the Eternals. Whether Tiamut's emergence happened or not directly affected
04:36the future of the entire human race, and yet Kingo decided to take a step back. The rest
04:42of the Eternals were his brothers and sisters, and though it's admirable in a way to remain
04:46neutral in such a situation, did anyone actually believe that as a major character he
04:51would manage to stay out of it entirely. Kingo was nowhere to be seen for the entire final
04:56battle. Realistically, he may as well have gotten involved, as he still ended up at the
05:01mercy of Arisham next to Cersei and Phastos anyway.
05:054. Mike Sing 2
05:07Sing is a genuinely enjoyable kids film even in spite of its singing competition premise,
05:12with a stunning cast to boot. Alongside the phenomenal voices of Reese Witherspoon, Taryn
05:17Egerton, Scarlett Johansson, and more, was Seth MacFarlane. The Family Guy creator's
05:22character, Mike, was a tiny mouse with one hell of a voice, but an attitude that got him
05:27in trouble on more than one occasion. When the little guy didn't appear or even get a mention
05:31in 2021's Sing 2, there was a theory equal parts dark and compelling. Mike likely would
05:38never have returned to be in Buster's new show anyway, as he was solely there for the money,
05:43but could it be that he was completely absent from the second movie because he had been killed by the
05:47bears who were chasing him? The big grizzly hanging off the back of Mike's car is the last
05:52we see of him after all. Harder to explain is the absence of both Pete and Eddie, who were present at the
05:58reopening of the New Moon Theatre at the end of Sing, and the three bunnies at the start of Sing 2 that
06:03were clearly part of the production, but had absolutely nothing to do with the excursion to Red
06:08Shore City or the new show at the Majestic.
06:113. The Fourth Skrull, Captain Marvel
06:14In 2019, Captain Marvel introduced to the MCU not only Carol Danvers herself, Maria and Monica Rambeau,
06:21and the mind-boggling Flerken, it also brought to life for the first time the Skrulls. Even better,
06:27the movie actually did a fantastic job of portraying the race as the villains of the peace before
06:32pulling the rug from under audiences with a genuinely shocking revelation. Back when everyone
06:37thought that they were evil invading aliens, there were four Skrulls that landed on Earth.
06:42They each shifted into the shape of someone on that beach, but not all four are to be accounted
06:46for by the time the credits rolled. There was of course Talos, his science guy Norex who was killed
06:52by Yon-Rogg, and the Skrull posing as Agent Coulson who died in Nick Fury's car.
06:57Now, for anyone keeping count, you won't be shocked to learn that we are still one slippery
07:02Skrull short. It could be that Norex was the alien that morphed into the old woman that Carol
07:07fought on the bus, in which case, what happened to the fourth Skrull? If Norex wasn't the alien
07:12that morphed into the old woman that Carol fought on the bus, what happened to the old
07:17woman Skrull? Either way you look at it, there is a Skrull still M.I.A.
07:222. Nagini, Fantastic Beasts, The Secrets of Dumbledore
07:26Outside of the likes of the Dumbledores, Newt Scamander's name on the Morda's map, and the
07:31canon breaking McGonagall name drop that made no sense, there aren't too many characters
07:36that appear in both the Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter franchises. One such character is
07:41Nagini, and because of this, audiences already know what her ultimate fate would be. Several
07:46decades down the line, the Maledictus would have permanently transformed into a snake, be one of
07:51Voldemort's most trusted allies, and a Horcrux no less, and would be sliced in half by Neville
07:57Longbottom. Even with this knowledge, there were some twists and turns during Fantastic
08:01Beasts, The Crimes of Grindelwald. Firstly, the fact that Nagini appeared as a human woman
08:06was mind-blowing, but by the end of the movie she actually aligned herself with Newt and the
08:11other heroes. With a compelling story between here and where she would ultimately end up,
08:16she was completely left out of Fantastic Beasts, The Secrets of Dumbledore. No explanation
08:20for her absence, she just simply disappeared from the narrative altogether. She may return
08:26further down the line if the movie franchise ever survives that long, but even if she does,
08:31there will have to be a big explanation as to where she was in the 3quel.
08:351. Rocky Balboa, Creed 3
08:39Creed 3 was something completely different in the franchise in a number of ways. It was the directing
08:44debut of Michael B. Jordan, who brought with him an anime-inspired fighting style, but
08:49it was also the first in the franchise not to feature Rocky Balboa.
08:53Throughout all of the Rocky movies and the first two entries in the Creed franchise, Rocky
08:58was a mainstay, and yet for Creed 3, he didn't appear. It was a decision made by Stallone himself
09:03due to creative differences, but what about in terms of the narrative? There are a couple of
09:08potential reasons for the Italian Stallions absence. Firstly, by the time of the 3quels
09:14events, Adonis is retired and living out in LA, as far away from Philly as you could possibly
09:19get in the USA. There really wouldn't be any need for Rocky to be out there. There is also
09:24a darker possibility pertaining to Rocky's poor health in the first Creed movie. Whatever the
09:29reason however, it seems a strange decision to give audiences absolutely no closure on the
09:34subject whatsoever. Donnie couldn't have just given him a call, or just mentioned in passing
09:39to Bianca how he was doing.
09:41And there we have it folks, our list of movie characters that just disappeared. But please
