The Princess of Wales marvelled at the “eclectic” collection of the V&A when she ordered and touched its exhibits like members of the public. Kate visited the new V&A East Storehouse in London’s Stratford to learn about its “order an object” system where paintings, furniture, books and sculptures can be requested and a room is set aside for viewing with staff. 00:00I love the choice of colors.
00:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:36And then these are for as well, so these are in the workshop as well.
00:39In the old times.
00:42I'm not going to avoid it.
00:48Yeah, I'm sorry.
00:51Let's bring all these pieces to life actually, so they're not sort of behind the scenes and sort of stored away somewhere.
00:57They refer to in the catalogue actually to see them in person.
01:00Yeah.
01:02I'm not going to go back to the next year, but at the moment we really came out to be fashion-dependent for us.
01:05So we're sort of diving into the collections and reimagining our things.
01:09And this is one of the pieces we've been looking at.
01:12It's an 18th century woman's riding hat.
01:14I like it.
01:15It's a lovely linen lining on the inside.
01:18And the brothel is so tightly woven and felt it that you can just cut it.
01:22It doesn't need to be handled, which is amazing.
01:24And they're very adorable.
01:26It's delicate.
01:27And it's so lovely.
01:29You know, it's 250 years old.
01:31It's a really great condition.
01:33And then there's this lovely linen face.
01:36Hello.
01:37Hi.
01:38So this is Keira and Sarah.
01:39Hello, Keira.
01:40Nice to meet you.
01:41Hello, Keira.
01:42Nice to meet you.
01:43And Sarah has been doing the photography.
01:46Because at the moment, you might think this looks quite similar.
01:48In the sense that this is a grey background.
01:50That is a grey background.
01:51But the way Sarah has made it will show you really, really, how we do it.
01:56I realised that one of the most important things about it is the fact that it's got this inscription writing on the inside.
02:04You don't see that in this picture.
02:06Well, her very good picture, but it doesn't really show.
02:09So, just kind of going by your question around what sort of photography we do, and why we do it as well.
02:18Like I was saying, we've done a bit of research, kind of really trying to figure out what the audience and then as a show has been used.
02:26Because it's very well used and loved.
02:29Yeah.
02:30Exactly.
02:31While the context exists, obviously we can't do that for every single...
02:35Where we get a real sense of movement in things.
02:39This is just a couple of the ones that I did yesterday too.
02:43Yeah, so it transforms it from sort of a basic sort of catalogue imaging to something that you would see in a, you know, in a bunch of catalogue.
02:51And then AI will just take it.
02:53Yeah.
02:54A little sense of money.
02:56We've done a few experiments.
02:58Yeah, exactly.
02:59So at the moment I'm not worried.
03:00I also typed into AI that I needed a golden mannequin head.
03:04And it gave me a stack of three, three colourful mugs in place at the head.
03:08Oh really?
03:09Yeah.
03:10So the human brain still has, I know.
03:12So it's not from the Philippines.
03:14So I, I, I, from the Philippines.
03:16So I'm very interested in these textiles that are mostly from pineapple.
03:21Yeah, it's, but it, it's sometimes hard to...
