As immigration protests erupt across Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass has sharply criticized President Trump’s decision to deploy 700 U.S. Marines and thousands of National Guard troops to the city, calling it a dangerous and provocative overreach. The protests, initially sparked by federal immigration raids, have escalated into volatile confrontations, with tear gas, rubber bullets, and widespread chaos in downtown LA. Mayor Bass accused the Trump administration of turning Los Angeles into a "test case" for authoritarian crackdowns, blaming federal militarization for inciting further unrest. California Governor Gavin Newsom has also denounced the move as unconstitutional and has filed legal challenges against the deployment, arguing that it violates state sovereignty.

00:53That's why I feel like we are part of an experiment,
00:55that we did not ask to be a part of.

01:01This should not be happening in our city.
01:04It is not warranted, and the only thing it does is contribute to chaos.
01:10This was chaos that was started in Washington, D.C.
01:13On Thursday, the city was peaceful.
01:16On Friday, it was not because of the intervention of the federal government.

01:29The introduction of federal military personnel without direct coordination creates logistical challenges
01:35and risks confusion during critical incidents.
