00:00Hi everyone, I want to talk about something really important today.
00:06It's kindness.
00:07I know, I know, we hear that word a lot.
00:09But what does it really mean?
00:11For me, it's about making someone's day just a little bit brighter.
00:14It's about choosing to be good to people,
00:16even when it's not the easiest thing to do.
00:18Being nice isn't just about being polite.
00:21It's about genuinely caring for the people around you.
00:24It's a feeling that comes from your heart.
00:27When you are kind, you spread a little bit of sunshine.
00:30And who doesn't love sunshine?
00:32It makes everything better, doesn't it?
00:34Think about a time someone was nice to you for no reason at all.
00:38Maybe a stranger held a door open for you when your hands were full.
00:41Or maybe a friend sent you a funny text just to make you smile.
00:45How did that feel?
00:46It probably felt pretty great.
00:48It made you feel seen and appreciated.
00:50That small moment of kindness can change your whole mood,
00:53maybe even your whole day.
00:54That is the incredible power we all have inside of us.
00:57We have the power to lift people up with just a simple act or a few kind words.
01:01And that is a beautiful thing.
01:03Being kind also feels good for you, not just the other person.
01:06It's like a boomerang of happiness.
01:09When you throw kindness out into the world,
01:11it has a funny way of coming right back to you.
01:13It creates a cycle of positivity that just keeps growing and growing.
01:17You feel happier, more connected and more positive about the world.
01:21It's a win-win situation really.
01:23You make someone else feel good and you end up feeling good too.
01:26It's the easiest way to make your own heart feel full and happy.
01:30And it doesn't cost a thing.
01:31So, let's make a little promise to ourselves.
01:34Let's decide to be the reason someone smiles today.
01:36It doesn't have to be a big grand gesture.
01:38It can be something small, something simple.
01:41The world can be a tough place sometimes.
01:43And a little bit of niceness can go a very, very long way.
01:46It's like adding a little bit of sugar to your coffee.
01:49It just makes everything a little sweeter.
01:51Let's make the world a sweeter place.
01:53One kind act at a time.
01:55It all starts with one person and that person can be you.
02:01Alright, let's get into the fun stuff.
02:03How can we actually be nicer every single day?
02:06It's easier than you think.
02:08My first tip is a classic for a reason.
02:10Just smile at people.
02:12Yes, that's it.
02:13When you're walking down the street or in the grocery store
02:16or waiting in line for your morning coffee,
02:18just look at someone and give them a warm, friendly smile.
02:21You never know what someone is going through.
02:23Your smile could be the only one they see all day.
02:26It's a small gift you can give for free.
02:29And it shows people that you see them and acknowledge them as a fellow human being.
02:32My second tip is to use people's names.
02:35This one is so powerful.
02:37When someone uses your name, it makes you feel important and respected, doesn't it?
02:41So when the barista at the coffee shop tells you their name, try to remember it.
02:45The next time you go in, say,
02:47Hi Sarah, how are you today?
02:49It takes a tiny bit of effort, but it makes the other person feel valued.
02:53It turns a simple transaction into a real human connection.
02:56The same goes for your coworkers, your neighbors, or anyone you meet.
03:00Using a name says, I see you, and you matter to me.
03:04Here's tip number three.
03:06Give a genuine compliment.
03:07Don't just say something to say it.
03:09Find something you truly like or appreciate about someone and tell them.
03:12Maybe you love your coworkers' new haircut.
03:14Tell them, wow, your hair looks amazing today.
03:18Maybe the person at the checkout counter is being really efficient and friendly.
03:22Say, thank you.
03:23You're doing a fantastic job.
03:25A sincere compliment can boost someone's confidence and make them feel wonderful.
03:29It shows that you are paying attention and that you notice the good things about them.
03:33It's like a little verbal high-five.
03:35And for my fourth tip, let's talk about listening.
03:38I mean really truly listening.
03:40A lot of the time when we are in a conversation, we are just waiting for our turn to talk.
03:45Instead, try to be fully present.
03:47Put your phone away, make eye contact, and actually hear what the other person is saying.
03:52Ask follow-up questions.
03:54Show them you are interested in their story.
03:57This is one of the kindest things you can do.
03:59It tells someone that their thoughts and feelings are important to you.
04:02It's a gift of your time and your full attention.
04:08Ready for more?
04:09I knew you were.
04:10Tip number five is all about offering a little bit of help.
04:13You don't have to solve all of someone's problems.
04:15Just look for small opportunities to lend a hand.
04:17For example, if you see someone struggling to carry their groceries to their car, ask if they need help.
04:23If your colleague at work seems overwhelmed with a project, you can say,
04:27Is there anything I can do to take some pressure off?
04:29Even if they say no, the offer itself is an act of kindness.
04:33It shows that you are a team player and that you care about their well-being.
04:36Now for tip number six, and this one is so easy, just say please and thank you.
04:41I know, our parents taught us this when we were kids, but as adults we can sometimes forget.
04:46These are magic words.
04:48They show respect and appreciation for others.
04:50Say thank you to the bus driver.
04:52Say please when you ask for something at a restaurant.
04:54It shows that you don't take other people's services for granted.
04:57It's a simple sign of good manners that makes interaction smoother and more pleasant for everyone involved.
05:03It costs nothing but makes a huge difference in how people perceive you.
05:06Okay, here is my seventh and final tip for today.
05:09Be patient with people.
05:11This can be a tough one, especially when we are in a hurry.
05:14But everyone has bad days.
05:16The person driving slowly in front of you might be lost.
05:19The cashier who is taking a long time might be new at their job.
05:22The friend who cancelled plans at the last minute might be going through something difficult.
05:26Instead of getting frustrated or angry, try to take a deep breath and choose compassion.
05:30Give people the benefit of the doubt.
05:32A little bit of patience is a quiet, but very powerful, form of kindness.
05:37So there you have it.
05:39Seven simple, easy and totally free ways to be a nicer person.
05:43You don't have to do all of them every single day.
05:46Just pick one or two to focus on.
05:48Maybe today you decide to smile at five strangers.
05:51Maybe tomorrow you make a point to give a sincere compliment.
05:54The goal isn't to be perfect.
05:56The goal is just to be a little bit better, a little bit kinder than you were yesterday.
06:00It's a journey, not a destination.
06:02And every single step you take makes the world a better place.
06:07I want to leave you with one final thought.
06:11Never, ever underestimate the power of your kindness.
06:14You might think that a small act doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.
06:18But you would be wrong.
06:19It matters so much.
06:21That one smile, that one compliment, that one moment of patience can create a ripple effect.
06:26The person you were kind to might feel so good that they go on to be kind to someone else.
06:31And that person is kind to another, and another, and another.
06:35It's a beautiful chain reaction of goodness that you started.
06:38Think of it like this.
06:39Your kindness is like a little seed.
06:41When you plant it, you might not see it grow right away.
06:44But with a little bit of light and a little bit of care, it can grow into a huge, beautiful tree that provides shade for everyone.
06:50Your small acts of niceness are planting seeds of positivity all over the world.
06:55You are helping to grow a forest of compassion, one little seed at a time.
07:00It's amazing to think that you have that kind of power just by being you, and by choosing to be kind in your everyday life.
07:06Sometimes the world can feel dark and divided.
07:09It's easy to get discouraged by all the bad news we see.
07:12But that is exactly when kindness is needed the most.
07:16It is the light that pushes back the darkness.
07:19It is the glue that holds us all together.
07:21When you choose to be kind, you are making a powerful statement.
07:25You are saying that you believe in goodness.
07:27You are saying that you believe in people.
07:29You are actively choosing to make the world a more loving and connected place for everyone.
07:33And that is an incredible thing to do.
07:36So go out there and be the best version of you.
07:38Be kind to one another.
07:40It's my favorite thing to say, and I mean it every single time.
07:43It's the simplest and most profound advice I can give.
07:46Let's make kindness cool.
07:48Let's make it our default setting.
07:49Let's fill the world with so much niceness that there's no room for anything else.
07:53It all starts with you, right now.
07:55Go on, make someone's day.
07:57I promise it will make yours too.
07:59Be kind.
08:00It's what really matters.
